SPRING SPRUNG, DRAINS DUG: Call it a sure sign of spring, as runoff escapes down a small, recently cleaned drainage ditch on farmland north of Manitou on March 19.
One of the follow-spot operators is already in yellow rain gear.
I know more songs by Steve Winwood than by Santana, but Winwood did very few familiar ones--Must have been doing music from before my time (hard to imagine, I know!)
Winwood still has the vocal chops, but was working A) as the opening act B) by daylight C) while people were gathering who only wanted to see Santana, and D) without a big screen so it was hard.
Santana put on an awesome show. I didn't know many of their songs either, but didn't care. More lighting effects, big screen, tighter band, hot brass. Carlos worked that crowd, rain and all, for two hours, finally giving in to the fireworks, which went on, rain or shine.
