Rare visitor to Heathrow
One of the eleven Dassault Mercures that Air Inter operated from 1975 until 1995 - seen here about to lift off from runway 28R at Heathrow. Photo snatched from the top level of either Car Park 1A or Car Park 3.
<b<A rare bird at Heathrow :) Only twelve Mercures were built, including two prototypes, and Air Inter was the only operator. They already looked out of date by the time I took this photograph, but as mentioned above, they continued flying with the airline well into the 1990s. I have no idea what a Mercure was doing visiting Heathrow - the only one I ever saw there! [See helpful comments below]
F-BTTF c/n 006 - Mercure 100 - was delivered new to Air Inter in November 1974 and flew with the airline for its entire life until 1995. The aircraft was withdrawn and stored at Merignac Airport, Bordeaux for possible preservation? More on the Dassault Mercure here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dassault_Mercure

New Haven Railroad ALCO DL-109 locomotive # 0724 with its passenger train is seen operating along the Shore Line in the snow at an unknown grade crossing location, ca early 1950's. The snow is not that deep, but provides a solid dusting on what appears to be a cold day. There are no crossing gates at this location, however; there are crossbucks and flasher lights. The trains consist includes both heavyweight and lightweight equipment. Notice the long blade semaphore block signal on the left side of the photo.

Princess Marguerite, Princess Marguerite II, and Princess Marguerite III was a series of Canadian coastal passenger vessels that operated along the west coast of British Columbia and into Puget Sound in Washington state almost continuously from 1925 to 1999. Known locally as “the Maggie”, they saw the longest service of any vessel that carried passengers and freight between Victoria, Vancouver, and Seattle. The vessels were owned and operated by a series of companies, primarily Canadian Pacific Railway Company and British Columbia Steamships Corporation. The first two were part of the CPR "Princess fleet," which was composed of ships having names which began with the title "Princess". These were named after Marguerite Kathleen Shaughnessy, who was not a princess but was the daughter of Baron Thomas Shaughnessy, then chairman of the board of CPSS's parent, the Canadian Pacific Railway.
The second Maggie, along with sister ship TEV Princess Patricia II, was built with turbo-electric propulsion in Scotland as a replacement for her predecessor to serve the Triangle Route. Service was restricted to the Victoria to Seattle route after the new BC Ferry Corporation began providing service between Greater Victoria and Vancouver in 1960. The harbour-to-harbour overnight service offered by the Maggie was not competitive with the much shorter and more frequent sailings being operated by BC Ferries on their shorter route. After the 1950s only day service was offered by this vessel.

For many years Isle Coaches of Owston Ferry operated services 291 and 399 from the company's home village to both Doncaster and Scunthorpe, with the occasional through journey. Sadly this all came to an end in the summer of 2022, with both services running for the last time on Saturday 11 June, when this photograph was taken in Scunthorpe Bus Station. FX51 WYG is a former Dublin Bus Volvo B7TL (original registration 01-D-10213), turned out to the operator's usual high standards. A small notice in the windscreen indicates that this is the last day of service by Isle Coaches (limited replacements were to be provided under contract to North Lincolnshire Council by Hornsby's and Stagecoach). The bus is about to operate the penultimate 399 departure from Scunthorpe, the 1347 to Westwoodside via Gunness, Belton, Epworth, Owston Ferry and Haxey. (Photo taken 11 Jun 2022, posted 23 Nov 2022)
