Because you can't take a trip to Australia without shooting this.

Coin-operated binoculars provide a view of Chattanooga, Tennessee, from atop Lookout Mountain.

When operating this lock at the Grand Union Canal in Watford you would notice two things: one, this is an extremely solid device and all hand-made. Two, you need a big steel handle and a lot of elbow grease to operate this lock. This is yesterday's technology, so forget about your mobile phone or your remote control. Photographically speaking, I had taken a small and very light camera (Fuji X-E3) and an even lighter all-rounder (pancake) lens when exploring Cassiobury Park in Watford where you have the River Gade and the Grand Union Canal in the centre. It was a surprise to myself that I found that my most interesting shots were not panoramas of the river or so, but these close-ups of human design.

Europe, Portugal, Algarve, Sotavento, Faro, Rua de Moagem, Silo building, Façade, Pigeons (uncut)

Shown here is the ornamented front façade of the brutalist silo building from the previous shot. I’m not sure if it still operates as a dance & music venue. But it does function as an impromptu dovecot.

BNSF operated a road dozer today from Superior to Cass Lake. Not much snow around the Twin Ports given frequent train movements but west of Brookston there was enough to really throw at 45 mph. With Boswell coal trains routed through Superior since last fall the line west of Cohasset was prime for some snow throwing. Here the dozer train nears Cass Lake, creating a ground blizzard as it blasts west. I'm not standing on the rail, the track curves off to the left here.

The factory was founded in 1934 for the production of Hydronalium. It operated as magnesite works from 1947 to 1990.

During our trip to the Twin Ports and Iron Range, my friends and I decided we would attempt to go after Cliff's Northshore Mining operation. Operating in some very remote territory and with limited public access to the line, this railroad has run in relative obscurity compared to the other ore haulers in the region. Armed with some solid intel as to when they would be running, we went to the MN 2 overpass, and we waited. And waited. It rained, it was foggy, and the mosquitos were out for blood. After about an hour and 45 minutes, we were starting to wonder if we had missed it. Finally, a distant horn, and a few moments later, the 11 AM crude ore loads came slowly into view. Simultaneously, the rain tapered off, and the sun showed itself for the first time in a few hours. It all added up to a very nice view of NSM's recently purchased SD70ACes, leaning into the curve with dynamics whining as the heavy train worked downhill towards Silver Bay.

Operating in southwestern Oklahoma the Wichita, Tillman and Jackson Railway is a subsidiary of the Rio Grande Pacific Corporation. Here a pair of former C&NW GP7s tug a 25 car loaded grain train on former Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway (MKT) track. Unfortunately these Geeps have been replaced by a fleet of eight former UP GP38/40s. Most remain in UP paint but I know of one that has received a simplified version of this scheme.

Eastward train No.50 headed for Waterloo on the ex-Illinois Central Chicago to Omaha main. Ackley was once the diamond crossing with the Minneapolis & St Louis Ry main line between Mason City and Marshalltown. Today the east west line is operated by the CN. The M&StL is abandoned to the north, while the connection track here in the foreground connects to the Iowa River RR shortline that goes to a small ethanol plant about nine miles south of Ackley.

This bridge is part of the Belair Mansion complex, located in Collington, Maryland, United States, was built in c. 1745 as the Georgian plantation home of the Provincial Governor of Maryland, Samuel Ogle. Later home to another Maryland governor, the mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Belair is recognized as the only great colonial estate where breeding of race horses was conducted during three centuries. The estate significantly influenced the development of thoroughbred horse racing in the new world, having one of only two stables to raise two Triple Crown champions. The mansion and its nearby stables both serve as museums, operated by the City of Bowie.

The significance of this location is amazing. In the centre of the reflected highlight is the Gabriel Bridge named after Louis Riel's military commander who operated the ferry here until his death in 1906. It was in this region that Metis families were terrorized by Canadian troops. Near here the Battle of Batoche took place and it is here that the “Back to Batoche Days” are celebrated every summer.
