Happy in winter. This pink and maroon hollyhock plant is in a flowerpot under an olive tree in my front garden in the late afternoon's dappled sun and shade

At the foothills of Taygetos mountain sits the kardamili village with its middle ages castles. A fabulous place.
Throwback to our trip in Northern Spain, at the end of last year. This Mallos is a little more famous than the one towering above Aguëro village. A river meanders at its foot, with beautiful green foliage on its slopes, and large almond and olive orchards cover the surrounding plains.

Olive trees, they accuse
Leaving the town of Amfissa and heading towards Delphi, you will pass through the Valley of Olives. Beautiful olive groves with really old trees stretch out on both sides of the road. This time there were not only green areas of trees, but also many burnt, charred olive trees. These black, charred remains of trees seemed to take on the appearance of mournful figures.
After 27 years, I photographed the olive tree again.
Its trunk has not changed, its branches have become a little fuller.
Symbol of peace, love and loyalty.
The olive tree takes a long time to grow, but can live to be several hundred years old.
Between the villages of Skala Marion and on the way to Limenaria.
If you encounter a small sporadic group of olive trees, a lookout point Of thousands on the island. This lookout point is something very special to me,
Whenever I travel to Thasos I visit this olive tree.

(Olea europaea)

This is a hard place to grow in. Stones and bushes cover the soil.. This is the Mediterranean, not the Black Forest. I was planted here with other olive trees in a cluster, so that humans can take all my fruits to give some taste to their food. My tree mates ignore me, they think I'm a freak. You see, olive trees are supposed to be tough. They can live up to 500 years or even longer when they don't get planted, like me. It won't be my case at all. Take a look at my trunk, it's skinny and strange. My fate started in the right direction, but something happened, and I could no longer control it . I reached a point where I had doubts. Wondering if that was the path I was supposed to take, I turned to the right. Then I looked up and couldn't see my trunk. I panicked. Desperately, I turned to the left to find my way again. That was hard. It took a lot of strength and willpower that I don't have. Finally, I saw my trunk and realized I had to grow upwards. I'm doing well now, but I'm still a weirdo. I need Tree Therapy, though. It’s all because of my insecurity, you know.

A little detour to sunny southern France today with a photo from my archives. It was a lovely afternoon in Menton, the last town along the French Riviera before the Italian border. This was a charming glimpse of the gardens at one of the former late 19th century British hotels of the Belle Epoque. There are several of these perched along a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean. Sheltered as it is from cold northern winds by the Maritime Alps, Menton has the warmest winters in all of France. As a result all manner of exotic gardens thrive there.
I think one can get a taste of some of the excitement that Matisse and Renoir enjoyed when they traveled to this part of France. It's very true that the light, cultural atmosphere, colors and climate were so different from their home regions. It inspired their beautiful paintings!
