St Martin's Church, Martindale is located in the valley of Martindale in Cumbria, England, UK
It is often referred to as the "Old Church" to avoid confusion with the nearby St Peter's Church which is situated half a mile down the valley. The church is dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours. It is now only in occasional use. The church is a Grade II* listed building.
The date of the establishment of a place of worship on the site of St Martin's is unknown but it is mentioned in a de Lancaster Charter of 1220 and other references state that a chapel was already in existence at that date.
The present building was probably erected at the end of the 16th century, replacing the chapel, the last reference to which occurs in a document of 13 April 1541. In 1714 the church floor was flagged as the congregation were no longer prepared to endure the damp earth floor.
The tiny church bell which hangs in an open cote at the west end of the church is over 500 years old.
The churchyard contains an ancient Yew tree which is estimated to be 1300 years old, documents in the church state the men of Martindale, who were famous as bowmen, used the tree and others in the district to replenish their arms.

Remains of ancient submerged peat beds exposed by shifting sands at Borth beach Cardigan Bay West Wales
Northumberland is England’s northernmost county, and it sits right on the border with Scotland. It’s historical hot property, a land long fought over by kingdoms and invaders – evident in its many castles, citadels and the 2,000-year-old Hadrian’s Wall.
It was taken in old, beautiful Oliwa Park. Oliwa is a part of the northern Polish city of Gdańsk.
The Chopin Waltz Op. 64 No. 2 fits here well.

Un chêne vieux de plus de 500 ans ! Il aurait pu voir passer Luther et Charles Quint...
It's laying there, all flat
There is no trees around
Only bushes
I have no idea how it landed on the beach
It is quite something
This ancient river red gum in Flinders Ranges National Park was made famous by the photographer Harold Cazneaux who photographed the tree in 1937. It became one of Cazneaux’s best known images leading to the tree becoming a tourist drawcard, especially for artists and photographers. It is located a couple of kilometres from the northeast rim of Wilpena Pound which can be seen in the background.

An old and majestic moss-covered Beech tree growing over a mossy stone wall.
Though they share the same place, I'm guessing that the wall was there first - but who knows. I have no idea of the age of the tree, but whatever, it's a beautiful tree ...... and what tales it could tell if only it could talk.
For anyone local who might be interested, it is located along the narrow road from Lowery Cross to Cross Gate (above the Burrator Reservoir).
Technical note: This is a handheld shot at 1/15 second. I got away with it again thanks to Nikon's VR lens system - maybe not tack sharp but sharp enough for the subject.
I love looking at you, hundred-year-old tree, loaded with shoots and boughs as though you were a stripling. Teach me the secret of growing old like you, open to life, to youth, to dreams, as somebody aware that youth and age are merely steps towards eternity.

It's a grand old metaphor.
The tree is old and straggly.
I'm old and straggly.
The tree has lost it's foliage.
I've lost my foliage.
The tree is standing alone in the middle of nowhere.
I'm standing alone in the middle of nowhere.
The tree has a big branch pointing skyward.
I have.........
And so the poor metaphor endeth.
This is directly opposite the Frolicking Field, just outside The Middle of Nowhere, South Australia, Australia.
Sorry I haven't been round to visit everyone. I'm slowly getting there.

“Tree of Life” in New Orleans. At nearly 500 years old, I was excited to be able to photograph this tree this week while visiting New Orleans. As Easter represents a new life, an eternal life, I wanted to post this on Easter Sunday. Happy Easter!!!
An ancient submerged forest is visible at certain times of the year at low tide along the stretch of shore at Borth. Pine, Oak, Birch and Willow stumps can be seen when the tide retreats up to 150 yards. The normally submerged forest has become associated with a 17th Century myth of a sunken civilization known as Cantre'r Gwaelod, or the Sunken Hundred.
According to the legend, the kingdom was lost at sea when Seithenyn, the guardian of sea defences, forgot to close the gates. In one version of the myth, the forest stretched 20 miles to the west of Cardigan Bay.
