The Pilgrimage Church of Wies (German: Wieskirche) is an oval rococo church, designed in the late 1740s by brothers J. B. and Dominikus Zimmermann, the latter of whom lived nearby for the last eleven years of his life. It is located in the foothills of the Alps, in the municipality of Steingaden in the Weilheim-Schongau district, Bavaria, Germany.
This is NOT this famous church, but the Wieskapelle (chapel) near Alteglofsheim/Regensburg. It was built 1748 and was located directly close to the famous route connecting Regensburg and Salzburg used to trade salt.
It contains a so called Third-Class Relic: These are any object that has been in contact with a first- or second-class relic. Most third-class relics are small pieces of cloth.
In the Upper Palatinate, I know at least a further Wieskirche which is located near Moosbach.

This famous 300-year-old tree is very famous come spring when its cherry blossoms bloom as a lone survivor in the field. Today, however, surrounded by winter it's massive but scary.

The ancient yew tree on the right
has been reported to have been in existence in 1152.
A place of worship has been here since before the time of the Domesday Book, which mentions a priest at Eastham. The present church contains architecture from many periods, although a major restoration by David Walker took place between 1876 and 1880. Some of the masonry in the north wall dates from the 12th century. The nave dates mainly from the 13th century, the tower originated in the 14th century, and the aisles in the 15th century. The south porch dates from the 16th century.
Another one from our Sunday stroll through lovely Shobrooke park. There's some beautiful old trees dotted around the area.
The Hirschenstein is a popular mountain for walkers in the Bavarian Forest. The Schuhfleck located below, is an important trail hub. Nine paths meet here, coming from. The Hirschenstein summit with its exposed location and seven-metre-high observation tower has unique panorama of the Bavarian Forest. To the east the view stretches from the Großer Arber to the Dreisessel, to the south from Deggendorf to Straubing and to the west as far as the Gallner. On about twenty days a year the Alps can be seen. The Jägerkreuz is a rock formation nearby.

During the first days of January, we got some snow. Most of it is gone and today is a rainy day :(
On a gloomy wintry day, while driving to work I often listen to Maurice Ravel - Bolero.

It starts with a single soft theme, which later grows stronger through harmonic and instrumental ingenuity.
When I listen to it, my energy level gets higher and higher.... at the end it is so high, that I can "move mountains". I use this energy efficiently at work :)
This giant old maple produces great color every Autumn. This tree has survived old age and storm damage, both resulting in large parts dying and being pruned away . Some of these branches have been gathered and stacked at the base of the tree for firewood. Word has it that the upcoming Winter will be cold.
That tree in Kenwood is so old, that needs some protection and it has a metal fence around.
Thank you all for visits, favs and comments! It's greatly appreciated.
Taken on a hike to the mountains.A small lake before you reach up on the hight. It became rather dark, and we thought it would be bad weather, but luckely it went away.A bird was sitting in top of an old tree.It probably had a nest near by, because it made a lot of noice.

Hope this old snag is still here. Perched nicely at the edge of Glacier's Swiftcurrent Falls. Was a bit jealous of having this constant view.
Grinnell Point in the distance under stormy skies.
Hope to return here next year to find out if it is still standing.
Happy Friday!
One of my favourite views in our local park. A great location to experience the change the different seasons bring along. During our Sunday stroll we managed to spot 15 different species of wildlife, including a massive breaching carp!
This is on the grounds at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, which is located at the very northern tip of the Leelanau peninsula, inside the Leelanau State Park, just north of Northport, MI. The lighthouse was built in 1852.

Wast Water or Wastwater is a lake located in Wasdale, a valley in the western part of the Lake District National Park, England. The lake is almost three miles long and more than one-third mile wide. It is a glacial lake, formed in a glacially 'over-deepened' valley. It is the deepest lake in England at 258 feet.
