I don't know the story of this chimney but, it's in the middle of the forest at one of the walking paths at the park. Look like it was from a very old house from the 1800s or 1700s. I really don't know.

……A very familiar walk for us at Attingham Park (N/Trust) but this time through a new route across the estate - the normal path being cut off because of mud apparently! So it was nice to see new parts and new trees - well old trees but new to us!!! Shot on my phone in Apple RAW & edited in Lightroom. Alan:-)…….

I have always had a special relationship with trees. whether small or large. I consider some of them as "friends", especially if they serve as a background for my photos. Today one of them hit the road due to the strong wind and bad weather that rages in the city (without causing any harm except to parked cars). This was a very special and impressive friend and I will miss him as a true friend can. I want to remember him like this, who projects his shadow and his scent on all of us.
This shot has been mistaken for a mountain or a hill... it’s in fact a look up shot at the remains of an old tree...!
……But thankfully plenty of new trees can also be seen here at Attingham park (N/Trust). A lovely walk as always, through the Deer park & around the estate to find this my iPhoneaday 365 shot #035. Shot in Apple RAW & edited in Lightroom. Alan:-)

Carbon River Rainforest, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
My hike to the lake last weekend went through a magnificent (and unusual) old growth rainforest. It is unusual because it is an inland temperate rainforest rather than the typical coastal one. During the warm and dry summer months the Carbon River creates its own fog which allows the rainforest to breathe and sustain itself even without rain. A very unique ecosystem!
The trees in this rainforest, mostly Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock, Sitka Spruce, and Western Red Cedar, are impressive. Some of them are as much as 800 years old and reach incredible heights. My neck started to get sore from spending so much time looking up at them and marveling at their stature!
Since I discovered when I got home that I had almost 100 photos of trees and the forest I selected just a few to post here to try give a sense of this wondrous place.

Bassenthwaite Lake is a body of water in the Lake District in North West England, near the town of Keswick. It has an area of 5.3 km², making it the fourth largest of the lakes in the region
An ancient submerged forest is visible at certain times of the year at low tide along the stretch of shore at Borth. Pine, Oak, Birch and Willow stumps can be seen when the tide retreats up to 150 yards. The normally submerged forest has become associated with a 17th Century myth of a sunken civilization known as Cantre'r Gwaelod, or the Sunken Hundred.
According to the legend, the kingdom was lost at sea when Seithenyn, the guardian of sea defences, forgot to close the gates. In one version of the myth, the forest stretched 20 miles to the west of Cardigan Bay.
A red cross is a way to indicate that a tree is about to be cut down. Trees that are not for timber but are diseased may be marked in the same way. There are too many like this one in the parks I visit!

One tree is in the last stage of life and his comrade has already fallen beside him. New growth sprouts among them fueled by the decomposition continuing the cycle of life. (Zoom in to see the wonderful wood grain in detail.)
Spotted in Wellgrove Wood as seen from the path leading from Crocker End down to Bix Bottom, taken on my walk last week
Often try to get early morning or late afternoon photos of this tree but I don't mind this midday shot.
The Maestrat region is extraordinarily rich in ancient, monumental olive trees, which together constitute one of the most precious elements of the historical, cultural and plant heritage of northern Castelló. We already know its characteristics: olive trees of the "Farga" variety, with huge trunks whose perimeter is 1.30 m. from the ground ranges between 5 and 9 meters, and whose ages are between 1,000 and 2,000 years. In any case, they always constitute the oldest and most genuine monuments, still alive, which have their roots in our protohistoric past directly related to the culture of Mediterranean peoples such as the Phoenicians, the Greeks and the Romans.

Angel Oak is a Southern live oak located on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina. The tree is estimated to be 400–500 years old. It stands 66 ft tall, measures 28 ft in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet. Its longest branch distance is 187 ft in length. This tree is just phenomenal in person.
This old dead tree looks out over Glen Feardar in the Cairngorms awaiting its final chapter. Whether it be a highland gale or a lightning strike it's past caring now.
