A tree trunk stands defiant against the elements.

This is not just a tree... It is an special one....Old and wise,,,,, In a Galician forest, .. Thousands of pilgrims walk under its leaves thinking about their lives and dreams... And , may be, part of that energy is absorbed by the old tree, every year older... Every year wiser...

In the City Park at Launceston, Tasmania, some of the oldest planted non-native trees in Australia can be found. The park was founded in the 1820s, and a tree like this dates from the second half of the 19th century.

With Infra Red I love shooting into the sun. In this case the backlit effect on the tree's foliage is very apparent.

3rd early morning up to this 300 year old tree to try and grab a few photos before the pedals fall. Love this time of year.

Lorbeerwald Fanal in Nebel - Madeira Portugal

The fairytale-like primeval forest Fanal Forest, sometimes also called Laurisilva, is one of the last laurel forests in the world and is therefore on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Tens of millions of years ago, a large part of Southern Europe was covered with this type of forest, but due to the ice age and deforestation, almost all laurel forests have disappeared. The old laurel trees often have very strange shapes and are covered with 20 different types of moss. The thick mist that often hangs in Fanal creates a mystical atmosphere and makes this place even more impressive.

Lorbeerwald Fanal in Nebel - Madeira Portugal

Hyde Park is one of London’s oldest and arguably Britain’s most famous park.

It has a long and varied history that has seen continual change and evolution in its landscape and use.

From the site of a monastery to royal hunting ground and from private royal grounds to one of the first public parks for the upper classes; some of the most significant moments in British cultural and societal history have involved Hyde Park. Through the centuries of change, the trees have evolved with the landscape and are a key part of its history.

Old plane trees: secrets of their longevity and care

The plane tree should stand in the garden for many years. It doesn't matter whether she is allowed to live out her growth unbridled or given a strict shape with scissors. In fact, the plane tree has the potential to become ancient. The decision for them is therefore one for generations.

An ancient submerged forest is visible at certain times of the year at low tide along the stretch of shore at Borth. Pine, Oak, Birch and Willow stumps can be seen when the tide retreats up to 150 yards. The normally submerged forest has become associated with a 17th Century myth of a sunken civilization known as Cantre'r Gwaelod, or the Sunken Hundred.

According to the legend, the kingdom was lost at sea when Seithenyn, the guardian of sea defences, forgot to close the gates. In one version of the myth, the forest stretched 20 miles to the west of Cardigan Bay.

Olea europaea, Farga variety.

The Farga olive is probably the oldest of those cultivated in the world. It is also one of the longest-lived, as is made clear in the region of Maestrat, located at the joining of Aragon, Catalonia and the Valencia Region. In these lands, the olive trees have succeeded in surviving the successive civilizations over the centuries, always offering oils with unique qualities.

The olive trees are protected by Law.

St Martin's Church, Martindale is located in the valley of Martindale in Cumbria, England, UK

It is often referred to as the "Old Church" to avoid confusion with the nearby St Peter's Church which is situated half a mile down the valley. The church is dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours. It is now only in occasional use. The church is a Grade II* listed building.

The date of the establishment of a place of worship on the site of St Martin's is unknown but it is mentioned in a de Lancaster Charter of 1220 and other references state that a chapel was already in existence at that date.

The present building was probably erected at the end of the 16th century, replacing the chapel, the last reference to which occurs in a document of 13 April 1541. In 1714 the church floor was flagged as the congregation were no longer prepared to endure the damp earth floor.

The tiny church bell which hangs in an open cote at the west end of the church is over 500 years old.

The churchyard contains an ancient Yew tree which is estimated to be 1300 years old, documents in the church state the men of Martindale, who were famous as bowmen, used the tree and others in the district to replenish their arms.
