Field next to my home this morning

I went in search of Spring cherry blossoms but they weren't out yet. So I came home with this instead

As well as a linear garden New Yorks High Line is also a growing sculpture park . When we first joined the trail on 30th Street we were met with this radiant tree which is the latest work on the trail its by Pamela Rosenkranz its called Old tree (2023). It has a good situation as its a sort of crossroads on the High Line; head west if you want to walk along the Hudson or head South down the main stretch through Chelsea

Standing 25 feet tall atop the High Line Plinth, Old Tree is the work of Swiss artist Pamela Rosenkranz, its 145 branches recalling at once both the limbs of a tree and human blood vessels.

“This piece immediately stood out because of the ambition of scale, and the color is something incredible that brought it to a whole other level,” Cecilia Alemani, the director and chief curator of High Line Art told Artnet News during the installation of the work. “It’s like the central square in a village with a tree and benches around it.”

If you missed an earlier photo of the High Line a bit of information

The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long elevated linear park, created on a former New York Central Railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan. The park is built on an abandoned, southern viaduct section of the New York Central Railroad's West Side Line. Originating in the Meatpacking District, the park runs from Gansevoort Street – three blocks below 14th Street – through Chelsea to the northern edge of the West Side Yard on 34th Street

The old railway was abandoned and left derelict from 1980. A nonprofit organisation called Friends of the High Line was formed in 1999 by Joshua David and Robert Hammond, advocating its preservation and its reuse as public open space and garden. Celebrity New Yorkers joined in on fundraising and support for the concept. The administration of Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced plans for a High Line park in 2003.

Since opening in June 2009, the High Line has become an icon of American contemporary landscape architecture. The High Line's success has inspired cities throughout the United States to redevelop obsolete infrastructure as public space. The park became a tourist attraction and spurred real estate development in adjacent neighbourhood’s. By September 2019 the High Line , had over eight million visitors per year.

The volunteers who manage the gardens should be very proud the plantings in the garden that are imaginative and beautifully maintained

This little dwarf sculpture was found carved in an old tree in the Brisbane riverwalk in the suburb of Teneriffe. In this tree there are about 6 other small figurines, elves, fairies etc. Brisbane City Council tore down the first setup, but this one is the second attempt, and it seems to stick. This phoho is now available for licensing at Alamy: www.alamy.com/miniature-dwarf-figurine-in-a-tree-trunk-im...

Lorbeerwald Fanal in Nebel - Madeira Portugal

Sometimes it’s just a good idea to leave everything behind and go to your favorite lake! We have lots of them in the Ozarks, and this one is only minutes away. (Sound of door slamming and footsteps fading away….)

I don’t normally take my camera on our later afternoon walks as the Sherpa insists they are for exercise not for dawdling. Once I have the camera in my hand, like all of us, I get distracted and wander off into my own world.

It was the golden light peeking through our majestic River Red Gums and spilling over onto the meandering creek that called me off the path and into the bushes, not to be seen for quite some time.

Only 20 m off the path and I was in a microcosm of nature. A remnant of what once dominated this place. River Red Gums live 500-1000 years. They are a long time coming and even a longer time gone.

As was I.

This was taken at sunset, when the sky westwards was ablaze with colour (really!). This view more NE. (Looks OK viewed large; you can then see where the main trunk has 'fallen off' & also the mole hills)

I have discovered a Public Footpath which is new to me, and this footpath follows what looks like a very old manmade track leading up to the fells.

The land is sunken with banks either side which, now, have lost some of their shape. Along these banks are the remains of very old trees; the one in the foreground has taken quite a battering!

Many trees have buds ready to open, but with the subzero temperatures we've been having, they may have to wait awhile. We think this venerable being that stretches into our backyard may be a magnolia, but Spring will tell.

Under this very old cherry tree is a small statue called "ojizosama". Ojizosama often represent children who have died before their parents. It’s the parents or sometimes also other local people who put the bibs on the statues to protect the dead children in the afterlife.

A very old and majestic tree

The two lonely trees in the Fanal Forest, Madeira

The olive trees that captivated the famous Spanish poet Antonio Machado come from a variety that was cultivated in Palestine 6,000 years ago. This species spread West throughout the Mediterranean thanks to the Phoenicians, the Etruscans, the Greeks and the Romans. It is believed that they started to be cultivated in the Iberian Peninsula some 4,000 years ago.

When The Sky Meets The Land

Last weekend and a mist filled Eden Valley, and a visit to the old tree was on the cards. I just loved the sky in this one as it falls to meet the rising mist from the valley, but I am easily amused I suppose:)

I took this photo when we were on holiday at a converted farmhouse in Suffolk ... The Dairy (Decoy Farm) near Friston, IP17 1NX.

BTW, I took the photo on 29 June 25 ... I didn't get round to changing the date (after changing my camera battery).

Over 1000 years old, this famous tree in Bilhaugh, Sherwood Forest, is one of the largest in the area contemporary with the Robin Hood legends. It's trunk has a 10 metre circumference.

In the background, you can see the row of linden trees between Moosham and Langenerling on the R 2 district road. At the end of the 1990s, the district road R2 from Langenerling to Moosham was extended. At that time, the district of Regensburg acquired a 10 m wide strip and planted a total of 96 winter lime trees and several groups of shrubs on the approx. 2 km long section of the road. I don't know anything about the much older tree in the foreground.

In Explore 3/21/2023.

Borth beach has an ancient submerged forest, most of the time the forest is hidden by sand and the sea, but occasionally rough seas scour the sand away and then you see this at low tide along the beach, where stumps of oak, pine, birch, willow and hazel (preserved by the acid anaerobic conditions in the peat) can be seen. Radiocarbon dating suggests these trees died about 1500 BC.

Just posting a nice warm sunny shot as im on nights now so wont see any daylight for a few days lol

love the view from the seat

A tree I pass by frequently on my bike rides. On this occasion it looked quite fetching looming out of the slowly fading mist.
