In Granada, Spain, whole spices were (are?) sold out of bags to customers who bring their own containers - or in spills of paper to the unprepared.

Wind and Sea Beach, La Jolla.
Taken for 52.5.of 2010.
Week 7: Theme: Waves or Water.
We had another storm yesterday, but today is gorgeous. The waves are big enough to get the surfers out. Wind and Sea Beach is a popular surfing beach. It is hard to get a picture of a good wave here without getting one of a surfer too. So here it is.

Migration champions of the hummingbird world, these little jewels nest in Alaska in spring and early summer. Early in the summer they leave to follow later-blooming flowers either south along the Rocky Mountains into Mexico, or east along the Canadian border then south to Florida for the winter. They return to Alaska each April by following the Pacific coastline north as the first blooms of spring emerge.
Here's a nearly all-orange ("rufous" colored) male, showing off his metallic orange gorget (covering his throat) to a female, who keeps her tiny nest hidden with the help of her camouflaged green back. In this shot you can also see her rufous sides, which distinguish her from other female hummingbirds.

I am only posting this one because it is my most favorite cake I have ever made and the one I am most proud of. All the figures where hand carved out of icing. Everything (except the bottom board) is edible. The chess pieces were moveable so it would have been possible to play chess on this cake!

...is the topic for Macro Mondays. This colorful nut and bolt is really just plain, colorless stainless steel. However, I used two ordinary small flashlights to light it, one on each side, and the only explanation I can come up with for the coloring is each flashlight must have beamed out a different color light. I ran this through Topaz Adjust to bring out the textures, but I didn't use any presets that would alter the color. You can check out what the bolt really looks like in the comment below.
