My new project is a work near Ter river, in a place called whitethorn avenue, where people goes for a walk. Sculptures and Land art experiencies are growing as mushrooms in this quite and beautiful place, so during next months it will be my objective.

The Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) was a secret society. Some researchers believe the objective of the KGC was to annex a golden circle of territories in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean for inclusion in the United States as slave states. Others suggest that the members proposed a separate confederation of slave states, with US states to align with others in the Caribbean circle.

Centering on Havana, this empire would be some 2,400 miles in diameter—hence the name Golden Circle. Leaders of the K.G.C. argued that their empire would have a virtual monopoly on the world’s supply of tobacco and sugar and perhaps cotton and have the strength to preserve slavery in the South from constant attacks by northern Abolitionists.

During the American Civil War, some Southern sympathizers in the Northern states such as Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa, were accused of belonging to the Knights of the Golden Circle, and in some cases were imprisoned for their activities.

George W. L. Bickley, a Virginia-born doctor, editor, and "adventurer" who lived in Cincinnati, founded the association. Records of the K.G.C. convention held in 1860 state that the organization “originated at Lexington, Kentucky, on the fourth day of July 1854, by five gentlemen who came together on a call made by Gen. George Bickley….”

He organized the first castle, or local branch, in Cincinnati in 1854. Hounded by creditors, he left Cincinnati in the late 1850s and traveled through the East and South, promoting an expedition to Mexico. Following the Mexican-American War of 1846, the group's original goal was to provide a force to colonize the northern part of Mexico and the West Indies. This would extend pro-slavery interests.

In early 1862, Radical Republicans in the Senate suggested that former president Franklin Pierce, who was greatly critical of the Lincoln administration's war policies, was an active member of the Knights of the Golden Circle. In an angry letter to Seward, Pierce denied that he knew anything about the KGC, and demanded that his letter be made public.

Appealing to the Confederacy's friends in the North and border states, the Order spread to Kentucky as well as the southern parts of such Union states as Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri. It became strongest among Copperheads, some of whom felt that the Civil War was a mistake. Some supported slavery and others were worried about the power of the federal government.

In late 1863, the KGC reorganized as the Order of American Knights. In 1864, it became the Order of the Sons of Liberty, with the Ohio politician Clement L. Vallandigham, most prominent of the Copperheads, as its supreme commander. In most areas only a minority of its membership was radical enough to discourage enlistments, resist the draft, and shield deserters. The KGC held numerous peace meetings.

Like many other secretive societies, the K.G.C. had an elaborate ritual with codes, signs, and passwords, and complicated plans for its military and governing operations.

Victory by the Union in the Civil War destroyed the cause for which the K.G.C. had been created and, therefore, ended its life. Bickley, who served as a surgeon in the Confederate Army before being arrested as a spy in Indiana in July 1863 and held until October1865, died in August 1867. Reports of K.G.C. activity circulated for a few more years, but there is no dependable evidence that the organization survived the war in any meaningful way.

The Social Cash Transfer Programme has helped beneficiary households to pay for school feed and they can now afford to buy new uniforms for their children.

The main objective of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) Programme is to reduce extreme poverty and the intergenerational transfer of poverty. The SCT Programme has been operating in Zambia since 2003 and is implemented by the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health (MCDMCH). Several positive impacts among beneficiary households include reduced poverty, increased food security, improved child wellbeing, improved living conditions and greater productivity and asset ownership.

10x Objective

HD Video, focus stacked

I need to work to get top light in with the 40x objective. There is only a small working distance. There are objectives with extra working distance which might be the key, or using something of a ring flash around the objective.

1. H&K OICW Program

During the 80's, 90's and 2000's, there was a US Program called "OICW (Objective Individual Combat Weapon)".

It was intended to provide Infantry with an "Integrated Weapon System", consisting of 2 Blocks:

- the "KE (Kinetic Energy) Module", being a 5.56 STANAG Compatible "Assault Rifle" that could be eventually detached from the System to be operated independently;

- the "HE (High Explosive) Module", being a Magazine-Fed "Air Burst Grenade Launcher".

This Weapon System proved to be 5 Times more Effective than the Regular "Assault Rifle + Underbarrel Grenade Launcher" Combination!

After many Tests, the H&K OICW was however cancelled, due to some Issues related to the HE Module - since 25mm Air Burst Grenades are less powerful than 40mm Standard Grenades - ;

moreover, the Success of Modular Weapon Systems (which feature Accessory Rails) greatly contributed to the Definitive Abandon of the Project.

Even if, actually, an Air Burst Grenade Launcher - derived from the Program - is currently being developed to be deployed as a Support Weapon: the H&K XM25.

Also, the South Korean Version of the OICW is currently fielded: the Daewoo K11.

It is very similar to the OICW, and uses 5.56mm NATO Magazines (Assault Rifle) and 20mm ABG Magazines (Grenade Launcher).

2. H&K/Herstal OICW II Program

Let's suppose this Future Scenario: "Thirty years passed from the Cancellation of the OICW Project, during which many Modular Weapon Systems - in particular: the Colt M4A1, the Remington ACR and the Herstal SCAR - are widely used and adopted as Standard Issues Assault Rifles...

What's the next Step? Often, we need to look to the Past to see the Future!

And so are thinking 2 of the most popular Weapon Industries: the Heckler&Koch and the Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal.

With their new "OICW II"!

It can be defined as an "OMWS (Objective Modular Weapon System, or Objective MWS)", which merges both the OICW and Modular Weapon Systems into a single Package!

How?

2.1 Statistics

It is formed by 2 Weapon Categories, and divided into 4 Interchangeable Blocks (2 more than the former OICW):

1. The "Assault Modules":

- the "Light Assault Module" (a Light Assault Rifle with Integrated Accessory Rails, chambered for the Standard 5.56mm NATO Caliber, just like the HK416 and the SCAR-L);

- the "Heavy Assault Module" (a Heavy Assault Rifle with Integrated Accessory Rails, chambered for the Standard 7.62mm NATO Caliber, just like the HK417 and the SCAR-H);

2. The "Special Modules":

- the "Close Combat Module" (a Magazine-Fed Semi-Auto Shotgun, chambered for the Standard 12 Gauge);

- the "Launcher Module" (a Magazine-Fed Air Burst Grenade Launcher, chambered for the 25mm ABG Caliber).

All the Modules can be actually operated "Individually"; also, each Module can be converted to other Calibers, upon Soldier and Mission Requirements.

However, only 2 Modules can be assembled at once, and - at the moment - they CANNOT be of the same Category!

2.2 Configurations

Here are shown all the Available and Possible Combinations:

- "Light Assault Module" + "Launcher Module" (here shown);

- "Heavy Assault Module" + "Launcher Module" (www.flickr.com/photos/83834370@N02/7807202166/in/photostream);

- "Light Assault Module" + "Close Combat Module" (www.flickr.com/photos/83834370@N02/7807212206/in/photostream);

- "Heavy Assault Module" + "Close Combat Module" (www.flickr.com/photos/83834370@N02/7807218678/in/photostream).

The 1st and the 4th Combinations are the most Recommended, since they allow the Operator to use the OICW II also while Prone - since the Magazine Bottoms are located at the same Height - .

Black Saturday +day109

Busy day today.

KG CFA Sale

First off I noticed the KG CFA was having a sale yesterday so popped in to have a look. The shed was full of stuff to get. Didn't think to offer some money to take a shot inside. Quite a few locals turned up. The shed was full. Bought a few things and headed off. Watching the Autumn leaves falling in the wind.

Headed off to Kinglake West.

Kinglake West

Arrived just in time to see "R", an old family friend haul the container and the old lathe on a flatbed, off down the hill. The objective today was pretty simple. Clear the shed of cars, start on the tractors. Later on clear the other shed and knock down some trees and do some clearing.

So today consisted of getting the crane in, knock down the shed frame, extract the vehicles. Load them up, haul them out. "R" driving the crane, me chaining the vehicles up, handling the cars as they are loaded, opening the gates, closing the gates and that sort of thing. Take the load off the Old man. Just get him to direct what goes where. "R"'s got a screwed back today. So instead of taking the work dog with the crane he's got me.

The first car gets loaded at Kinglake West then driven down the hill. Unload the car. The dog you see looks on.

Back up the hill the boundary poles are being marked again - in white, not red as the Old man wanted.

Driving

Covered about 250Km today. Going up to KLW. Then taking the trailer down the hill. Did this three times before we went home. Each time means a load, then an unload. On the way we pass through KLW and Humevale on the way to Whittlesea. A reminder of the fires is burnt out forrests, broken houses, a steady procession of trucks and cars with trailers and Australian flags waving in the wind.

On the farm

"R" owns a farm so I got to see a Ewe drop a pair of twins, be greeted by a procession of animals. Chooks, goats, horses and "Dog". Dog is "R's" work dog. Chases the cranes and tractors barking as he does. The last vehicle is one of our prized Fordson tractors. The main workhorse we had on the hill. Countless times we have pulled out stumps with the trewalla, ploughed up the back with the rotary hoe. Or just pull logs around.

End of the day

The day ends at four not because work has finished but the lack of light. If I leave at four I can do the 65Km home in an hour only hitting traffic lights within walking distance. Made a quick Coms check, changed out of some kit and went home, mindful it was dusk.

The objective of this work is to simulate and evaluate the design of cleaner, next-generation 1,000 megawatt (MW) Ultra Super-Critical (USC) coal boilers. These first-of-their-kind large-eddy simulations can provide greater accuracy in predicting temperature and velocity profiles in furnaces than steady-state computational fluid dynamics computations.

This image depicts a large eddy simulation prediction of instantaneous O2 mass fraction in a hypothetical commercial scale 1000 MW, Ultra Super-Critical (USC) coal boiler. Simulation results may suggest new design features that can have an impact on the operation of current and next-generation USC boilers.

These simulations will improve coal combustion efficiency in a carbon-constrained world. Results could have impacts on ultra super-critical boiler operation and suggest new design features for next-generation boilers. Validating the results against experimentally measured values within the boiler will also provide valuable information

regarding the predictive capability, at scale, of the University of Utah’s Uintah/Arches coal simulation capability.

PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - The 641st Regional Support Group, an Army Reserve logistics and transportation brigade based in St. Petersburg, Fla., conducted a Best Warrior Competition and Officer Challenge Jan. 24 at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.

Both competitions took place during the final full day of Operation Responsive Sentinel, a sustainment training and disaster relief field exercise comprising approximately 20 units and 900 Soldiers. Resolve Sentinel's operational and tactical missions at Port Canaveral, Patrick AFB and the Air Force's Malabar Transmitter Annex offered numerous opportunities for the troops to apply their military and civilian skills to plan, organize and execute objectives on land and sea.

The Best Warrior Competition featured six enlisted Soldiers representing several companies and battalions attached to the 641st RSG. The half-dozen men and women faced off in a various warrior-oriented tasks ranging from a written exam and sergeants major interview board to a ruck march and a rifle and pistol qualification round.

The top two competitors will represent the 641st RSG in the 143d Sustainment Command

(Expeditionary)'s Best Warrior Competition planned for March 9-13 at Camp Blanding, Fla.

While specialists and sergeants shot, sang, ran and marched their way to the finish line, scores of junior officers formed at Patrick AFB's Education and Training Center to test their strength, dexterity, memory and morale in the 641st RSG's officer challenge. Teams of five officers competed at six unique

stations spread along a six-mile route. The challenge began with map reading and rank recognition events, continued with casualty evacuation scenario and a ethical dilemma, and concluded with a physical challenge and rifle marksmanship.

Objective: Out and About, HDR Photo

Camera mode: I was in Aperture Priority to be able to choose my aperture without having to care about the shutter speed.

ISO: I chose ISO 100 in order to reduce the shutter speed.

Focal Length: My picture has been taken in 28mm because I wanted the whole shed and the grey sky.

Aperture: My aperture was f/29 in order to have as much details as possible in focus.

Shutter Speed: My shutter speed was set automatically to 1/10.

Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design

Texture: With this HDR Picture, I wanted to highlight the grass, the wood of the shed and the clouds.

Colour: I darkened the highlights and brightened the shadows in order to highlight the orange of the wood, the green of the grass and the white of the gravel.

Space: There is no negative space because I wanted a lot of details in this HDR.

Balance: Even though, the shed is on the left of the picture. The house is directed to the right.

Emphasis: The house is placed on the third line of the Rule of Third.

Objective 4: Lighting

I took this picture outside and waited until the sun had a good position so the shadow is not directly on the shed but towards the side of it.

Objective 5: Post Production

I took seven pictures with seven different exposures (-3.0 to +3.0) merge them to HDR with Photoshop. Then I changed the highlights, shadows, contrast, saturation, vibrance, clarity, sharpening and post-cropping vignetting in Lightroom 4.

Objective 6: Critique

Santa was nice to me this year and left me a Nikon D700. Here is one of my test shots at in a very dim lit alley at ISO 6400

Llegará el día en que después de aprovechar el espacio, los vientos, las mareas y la gravedad; aprovecharemos la energía del amor. Y ese día, por segunda vez en la historia del mundo, habremos descubierto el fuego.

In the very late 1960's I was (too) keen to shoot b&w with my Exakta Varex. I had an enlarger (Opemus II) with a few objectives.

Later I changed the enlarger and got some new objectives - said to be of top quality.

Much, much later I bought at a final sale some enlarging objectives with L39 mount. They have been waiting for suitable projects.

One of the hottest discussions about enlarger objectives concerns the question 'reversing or not?'. So far I haven't experiences - and no opinion.

NATO's primary objective in Afghanistan is to enable the Afghan authorities to provide effective security across the country so it can never again be a refuge for terrorists. Along with conducting security operations and mentoring Afghan National Security Forces, building adequate facilities where troops may live, work and train is vital to promoting a strong security force.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has constructed dozens of installations to support NATO's objectives with dozens more under construction, including the Regional Military Training Center in Kandahar province. The installation will be the site of basic warrior training, follow-on specialty training and day-to-day operations for up to 3,000 Afghan National Army personnel. The project includes the design, materials, labor and equipment to construct administration buildings, dining facilities, a fitness center, medical clinic, small arms storage, parking areas, barracks and more. Valued at $42 million, the RMTC in Kandahar is currently about 50 percent complete. A local Afghan company was awarded the contract.

One day I noticed in Evilbay a German shop selling oldfashioned Tamron Adaptalls as a lot of four tubes for a rather miserable price - without any warranties. As a player I decided to buy the lot to see...

It is quite impossible to get a plastic feeling with this tube. This must be a 100% glass and metal combination: it weights a lot.
