Innocence is always unsuspicious.

There is a preciousness of the innocence of childhood. There is also a preciousness to the mischief of childhood. It is a a joy to be an invisible observer the the moment of when those two states of being are about to cross paths.

A Caper, as one may call a denizen of Cape Breton Island, will be recognized very quickly whenever he/she ventures out and about. The waitress in this Bistro recognized our companion and friend Dennis as "that runner from Glace Bay". Apparently they lived doors apart on the same street in that town over fifty years ago when she was a child and Dennis was an excellent long-distance runner and she recognized him without fail and reminisced about the past.

Bras D'Or Lake is a UNESCO's Biosphere Reserve located in the centre of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is an inland sea consisting of a salt-water estuary watershed. The sea has three passages to the Atlantic Ocean.
The small but deep inland sea has 12 significant watersheds draining both highlands and lowlands and was created as the Holocene Transgression (refers to the geographical phenomenon involving the global retreat of glaciers) flooded a complex river-lake system of diverse geology.

This is the one they chose.
I was asked to test the new 3.0 firmware and make a few images using the newly combined features of Pixel shift and Focus Shift. During the testing process, I was asked to make an image that Japan would end up using to launch the new firmware. I was incredibly honored that they chose this one.
This was captured as 1,600 NEF files... merged using NX Studio to 50 NEFX (180,000,000 pixel) files... then stacked in Helicon to a single image of about 1.09 GB. Then in Photoshop Elements, it was 'dumbed down' to the 5 MB file.

This image is from my most recent trip to Cuba. It was a hotter than hell day with humidity that you felt that you could swim in the air. I always make it a point to shoot boxers after I shoot ballet dancers. Prepares me for the elegance of the randomness of the ring.

Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto: the name means Buddha's Light Mountain and was founded by Venerable Master Hsing Yin in 1967 in Taiwan according to the principles of humanistic Buddhism.
The Toronto Buddhist temple branch is located in Mississauga in the west end of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and operates a satellite Dharma centre in Markham (here in this photo) on Denison Street to provide services to Buddhists in the eastern part of the GTA. There is also a centre in Kitchener-Waterloo. These are dedicated to sharing the teachings of Gautama Buddha and are part of the Theravada Buddhist tradition.

I shot this image of Jenna Ortega on the set of the movie Saving Flora. It’s been a minute since I capture this. I thought I had posted it. I have been asked to do Glynn Dewis’s podcast and he needs images. I could not find this image anywhere and had tog to thee archive. I do not even have it in a slideshow.
What stuck with me to this day was how giving an gracious she was and how she lit up a camera. I have been a fan of hers ever since that moment.
I shot this with a then prototype Nikon D5 and my favorite lens at the time the 105 f1.4. which I shot the ad campaign for because according to the Japanese marketing firm “my work was the most blurry of all the ambassadors.” I still don’t know how to take that

It's been fairly difficult motivating myself to do enough cycling now I no longer have to for work. The amount of motorised traffic makes riding a pretty intense experience. The solution is simple - just go early - very early!
The word gut is used in place names in Cape Breton, i.e. Catalone Gut, Mira Gut, Framboise Gut etc. It means were water is fed through a narrow channel from a small body of water into a larger one. In this photo water flows from a smallish lake beyond the bridge into a larger body of water, here Mira Bay, part of the Atlantic Ocean.
The word gut's origin is debatable. Mi'kmaw, Gaelic, French and English are all spoken in Cape Breton and one could be the source language.

This image is from my most recent trip to Cuba. I love photographing Cuban Ballet dancers. This image is of the ballerina Lilia Laura Martinez Hernandez and the ballerino Luis Raúl Fernández. I love how how a dance shows up and shows their heart and soul from the moment thy show up to the moment they walk of the stage. For them center stage is always where they are.

In my work I I am in the practice of practicing. Practice does not make perfect, a perfect practice makes perfect. Which is why I always am practicing at practicing. With the pursuit of attaining the Zen state of Shibumi- effortless perfection and elegance. A state of doing that is thoughtful thoughtless thought.
For me this image of Cuban Olympic boxer Alejandro Iglesias. I was at the gym he trains at, a place I have been going for 20 years. The background is a chainlink fence that separates the practice areas. The clouds part for a moment and a Godbeam of light shown through and he was standing there in the boxing ring interrupting the beautiful light. The moment only lasted two frames and the work began to move again. But in that moment we were all part of the whole of that moment.

You're a refraction of the one light. You're a waveform of light. You're a fractal, a pattern that continuously changes.

This image is from my most recent trip to Cuba.
I was employee number six of Altamira group, the creators of Genuine Fractals scaling technology and the second employee of Niksoftware. That goes back to the time when dirt was discovered. Why I bring this up is my complete and utter fascination with the concept that everything in the universe is a fractal, no two fractals are the same but in the same exact place after a series of random numbers is The Thumbprint of God. A perfect mathematical fractal, such as the famous Mandelbrot set— this self-similarity goes infinitely deep: each pattern made up of smaller copies of itself and those smaller copies made up of smaller copies again, forever.
What does the above have to do with this image you ask? There is the whole totality of the car, then there are the smaller parts of the self similarity of the car that are part of the whole and yet completely different. That thought just fascinates me. So if you wonder why you see a lot a parts of the micro and macro world of reality. Now you know.

This image is from my most recent trip to Cuba. Patterns are interesting but patterns interrupts are more interesting. I believe that Human visual perception is the more important consideration when working and framing/composing an image not 17th century painting theory. I also believes that all images, or in my case, all my images are optical illusions and just a variation of the “French Drop” coin trick. Oh yeah- I love photographing Cuban Ballet dancers.

The truth is like a lion. You don't have to defend it. It will defend itself. - St. Augustine
From my three weeks in Namibia—
There is something humbling about being so close to a creature that you ca hear it breathing and at any moment you could have you become it’s mid-day snack faster than you realize you are it’s mid day snack. More humbling is the sensation of being looked at and through without any other consideration other than the instant it became aware of you and then you just disappeared.
I have been working on an image project for the past 21 years. The “Tuning the Last Page” Project. The object is to photograph the echos of the past that are present today. My most recent trip to Namibia has started a new chapter in the project “Turning the Last Page: In the Land of Dry Water.”
I have wanted to travel to Namibia for over 40 years. It all started with the second CD I ever purchased Sanford Ponder’s Etoshia” In the Land of Dry Water.
AND to answer the next question YES I will be organizing a workshop there.
Shot with the Nikon Z8 using the 100-400mm S lens, Kolarivision IR Conversion. Post processed wit NX Studio and Photoshop CC Beta.and DxO’s NiK collection plug-ins.

What you see is not what others see. We inhabit parallel worlds of perception, bounded by our interests and experience. What is obvious to some is invisible to others.

There is more in the world to photograph that which is obviously in front of us. We go to a boxing gym and all we see are boxers. Learning how to slow down to the speed of life and be taken by all that is around me, then stopping time and capturing for a forever moment of an interesting simple plainness. That is the joy of photography for me.

In the course of our day we tend to forget that we the world around us travels at the speed of life and not at the speed of lost in our thoughts. Our physical bodies are moving at one speed and our consciousness is moving not in sync generally somewhere else.I have found that being able to to slow both mind and body to the same speed, the speed of life, is the key to achieving a n interesting plainest, the most difficult thing to achieve.
