This image is from my most recent trip to Cuba.

There is more in the world to photograph that which is obviously in front of us. We go to a boxing gym and all we see are boxers. Learning how to slow down to the speed of life and be taken by all that is around me, then stopping time and capturing for a forever moment of an interesting simple plainness. That is the joy of photography for me.

In the course of our day we tend to forget that we the world around us travels at the speed of life and not at the speed of lost in our thoughts. Our physical bodies are moving at one speed and our consciousness is moving not in sync generally somewhere else.I have found that being able to to slow both mind and body to the same speed, the speed of life, is the key to achieving a n interesting plainest, the most difficult thing to achieve.

As I walked around my neighborhood, I came across this leaf being blown against the metal bar of this fence. For a few seconds, the fence held the leaf in its grasp. Finally, the leaf broke free and joined the collective.

These three images are part of two experiments. One, checking out the quality of straight out of camera jpegs. While doing that, I am checking out results from different picture controls and other settings. Two, comparing images from the D500 and D700. Due to the brief nature of the scene, I did not get any shots of this from the D700.

Shot for a challenge on DPReview: shots taken in the kitchen. I tried to shoot in the style of the host. I didn't mind shooting in high iso as my thought was the grain would complement the images especially as I was shooting in black and white. I processed #1 and #2 in NX Studio using the original monochrome profile. For the color image, I went to Elements and used a color profile there. The beauty of shooting raw using a monochrome picture control is I always have the full color information on tap in case I want to go that way.

I am by training and proclivity black and white photographer. Something my uncle C.J. said to me at an early age was black and white isn’t just an aesthetic choice, it makes you feel like you’re looking into the soul of the world, without distractions It is an always ongoing dialogue between the past and present. I didn’t even know what “aesthetic” meant just that I need to get me some.

He taught me how to print. Learning how to print in black and white taught me how to see, not just look. Jay Maisel taught me how go from taking to being taken.

Mardy Broks took over this Dutch Treats store in 2022 on Holland Street East in Bradford. We take a drive every now and then to stock up on koek, speculaas, Conimex Indonesian spice packages for nasi- and bami goreng. They always have Friese nagelkaas (with cloves and cumin) and "Fryske ljirre", smoked horsemeat! Candy in the form of sweet Liquorice and some zoute "dropkes".

Crescent moon - about 7 to 8 days old and 46% illumination.

Partially cloudy conditions.

Craters Theophilus, Cyrillus and Catharina near the middle.

Notable craters near the terminator, from N to S, are: Aristillus, Autolycus, Hipparchus, Halley, Albategnius, Stofler, Faraday, Licetus and Cuvier.

The clair-obscur effect, Lunar X, is visible, below centre, at the terminator, on the rim of the Blanchinus, La Caille and Purbach craters.

The Lunar V is also visible, just above centre, near the terminator, formed by Ukert crater and several other small craters.

As brutal as boxing can be its beautiful to watch as ballet. As painful to practice as ballet is is as painful it is to train to box. What I have observed whilst photographing the practice to perfection of both is the focus of excluding all things of the outside world to just that of the moment that they are in in. An almost rapture like expression is shared by both dancers and boxers.

There s a zen monk like focus of a dancer at the barre. Three embodiment of practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. You have to practice at practicing. The only awareness is in the observation of how everything feels as the ballerina goes through the gestures of the pose. I simply do not exist in the reality of the moment. Only the perfecting the forms of the dance.
