It may have been sunny where we were - but a blanket of cloud covered the top of Bleaklow all day yesterday.

I do hope that the mountain rescue team weren't called out (yet again) to rescue any lost walkers up there. There have been a number of incidents recently where they have been called out to search for walkers, lost in an attempt to find the B-29 crash site up there. Even worse are those who, after reporting themselves lost, managed to find their way back to safety without notifying the teams still out searching for them!

The boggy plateau can be very confusing and difficult enough to navigate at the best of times and even more so with snow and mist. It's best left to experienced and well equipped hikers who know how to use a map and compass - relying on mobile phones isn't advised as the signal is not reliable up there.

You might not hear the news about nuclear disaster in Japan much anymore.

However, the situation of nuclear disaster has not improved anything yet, on the contrary it is getting worse.

On April 19th, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) notified the Board of Education and related institutions in Fukushima Prefecture to raise annual radiation exposure limit from 1mSv to 20 mSv.

20 mSv per year is comparable to the legally recognized dose for inducing leukemia in nuclear power plant workers. It is also comparable to the maximum dose allowed for nuclear power plant workers in Germany.

If the government allows 20 mSv per year for the children. Most likely many of them will get thyroid cancer in the future like the children in Chernobyl.

Dr. Ira Helfland: There really is no safe level of radiation Children are much more vulnerable than adults

www.winonadailynews.com/news/opinion/editorial/columnists...

Nuclear expert, Arnold Gundersen says Fukushima is worse than Chelnovyl because it has not stopped yet. A lot of radiation is leaking down into the ground water. Pregnant women and children need to evacuate much sooner.

After returning to the Twin Ports from my COVID-19 related extended vacation in April, I only worked sporadically for a month and a half before being notified that I was being furloughed. Once I was notified, I handled a few errands, moved out of my apartment (thanks Jon and K-Mad, sorry that table scarred you forever) and hit the road for points west, by way of a morning on the DAIR and an afternoon on the RCPE. The storm prediction center was making an afternoon in the Powder River Basin look enticing and I've been inspired by the fine photographs by the Danneman brothers and Ray Lewis to shoot the dramatic sky silhouettes in the Bill vicinity.

After a severe storm rolled north across the PRB, I rolled south and intercepted a southbound loaded coal train with a pair of ACe's on the point.

Final totals for part 1 of the trip are 29 days on the road, 6195 miles and only three nights in a hotel. The tent sure got a work out...

Stay tuned for more.

THIS WAS EXPLORED!!! Omg, thanks ○kari for notifying me:D

Photographed on the Camden Waterfront. It's unfortunate that someone was shot during this event. We weren't notified to leave via the speakers. They just cut the music off, and I assumed it was technical issues. The fireworks and music masked the gunshots. I didn't realize the crowd had left because I was so focused on the show. Other than someone being harmed, it's sad that someone had to ruin the 4th of July celebration for everyone. Fortunately, the police were able to arrest the suspect before things could have gone from bad to worse. What's even more sad is the city in front of me, Philadelphia had three shootings during the celebration. My condolences for the families that lost someone due to the senseless gun violence. My prayers are with you and any other state that had a shooting.

Keeping it simple.

I just downloaded geektools last night and was playing with it up until 2-3 in the morning. At first I wanted to clutter the whole desktop with activity monitors, traffic photos, a custom wallpaper, etc. I decided on keeping it functional and simple.

- Hid the dock on the bottom which pulls up when I hover the mouse over the bottom of the screen.

- Kept the time on the top right without the day showing... Since it's on the desktop :)

- The weather is there just so I don't have to open iGoogle (my dashboard w/ widgets.)

- I removed the spotlight icon using a terminal tip found here.

- I added the GrowlTunes (found here) so I can just use my MBP's function controls (F7-F9) to flip through tracks.

- Google Notifier (found here) so I don't have open iGoogle and it 'pushes' my email and calendar events right on my desktop, growl style.

- The uptime on the bottom left of the screen is just there so I can glance at how long I can keep the MBP up without rebooting. No real purpose other then that.

Gulmarg is a town, a hill station, a popular skiing destination and a notified area committee in the Baramula district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is situated in the Pirpanjal range in the western Himalayas...

Gulmarg lies in a cup shaped valley in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, at an altitude of 2,650 m (8,694 ft), 56 km from Srinagar. The soil in Gulmarg comprises glacial deposits, lacustrine deposits and moraines of Pleistocene age covering shales, limestones, sandstones, schists and other varieties of rocks.[16] The natural meadows of Gulmarg, which are covered with snow in winter, allow the growth of wild flowers such as daisies, forget-me-nots and butter cups during spring and summer.] The meadows are interspersed by enclosed parks and small lakes, and surrounded by forests of green pine and fir.[3] Skiing and other winter sports in Gulmarg are carried out on the slopes of Apharwat peak at a height of 4,267 m (13,999 ft). Many points on Apharwat peak and Khilanmarg offer a panoramic view of Nanga Parbat and Harmukh mountains - Wikipedia

The town bar is open, apparently under renovation. The previous photo on my stream of just the side door was good to get at that time, for it is now covered up by the odd decorative wall and bales of hay. The historic Stout's Hotel is seen in the background of this downtown scene. I suspect Gila Bend may have 2 or 3 bars, but this is the only one I have spotted on "Main Street". Behind the quonsett hut part of the bar there is an odd and tall structure being added, perhaps large enough to hold the main part of the new, improved bar. Of course I'll try to get more photos on my next trip through Gila Bend as I travel Arizona 85 to get to Interstate 8 going south to Yuma.

A special "Thank You" to Daren Genau for the heads up on this one. Four standard-cab motors on a High Priority freight in 2025! Except for the paint, this would be a typical consist of the power I ran when I hired out 30+ years ago. I can feel my arteries

hardening as I type this.

The "soup" on this train is 69 loads, 0 empties, 9560 tons, 4107 feet in length, and one dead motor. Even more typical of the power consists we dealt with in the days of yore. Seemed like there was always at least one "bell ringer" in the consist to make things interesting. BNSF 2646 is on its knees and the engineer has notified the dispatcher that they may not be able to get over the hill at Keenesburg. Watch those "short-time "ratings. They made it but not before the sun went behind a cloud bank.

On New Year's Eve morning we were expecting a package to be delivered, so my husband kept looking out through the front door. To his surprise instead of the package, he spotted a cat curled up on our bench!

There had been a family that lost their cat on Halloween Day, when it accidentally escaped through a door that was left ajar. I immediately thought that this might be the cat! I rushed to get a can of tuna fish, to offer the cat, so that I could try to coax it to stay long enough to inspect the collar that I had spotted on its neck. I carefully opened the door and began talking to it.

As soon as I stepped outside, it bolted around the corner of the house and into our backyard. I scurried after it and found it standing on the patio, so I began calling to it and showed it the tuna. As soon as I sat the tuna on the ground, it came running to me and began to eat. It purred as I stroked it.

I had placed a pen, paper and my reading glass in my jacket pocket, so that I could see the tag on its collar. Sure, enough there was the name of the cat on one side and a phone number on the other side. I gave the paper with the phone number to my husband and asked him to call the owners right away.

The man who answered said he lived nearby and would come right away to pick Mounty up. However, Mounty had other plans! By now, I had attempted to pick him up, and for a few seconds he was okay, but then he began to struggle in my arms. Since I wasn't sure if he would bite or scratch me, I put him down. Off he ran, jumped up and over the fence and into a neighboring yard, just as the owners, a lady and her son, pulled up out front!

We all looked in the yard where he gone, but he had kept on running. Mounty had escaped capture!

They thanked me for my efforts and said, that since I had fed him and he knew there was a comfortable place to rest, that he might come back, so they asked if I would call them if he did return, but not go outside to get him the next time.

Sure, enough on New Year's Day he had snuck back up on the front porch and was sleeping cozily upon the bench again.

I called the owners and within less than five minutes they came with their cat container and were able to retrieve Mounty!

They were happy to have Mounty back, but he was struggling to get out of the carrier! I have a feeling it won't be the last time I see Mounty the escapee.

(He did not turn out to be the cat that had runaway in October.)

For those of you who may not be friends with me on FaceBook, I want to notify you of a special item that's coming to your local US Post Office on Friday, February 21, 2020. It's a 20-stamp, double-sided stamp booklet featuring photographs of some of the many wild orchids I've photographed over the years. These are "FOREVER" stamps, which means that they are good for first class postage, forever -- even if the postal rate changes.

Am I excited? Yes! It's truly an amazing honor to have my images appear on US postage stamps. For me, it is a trifecta: I am a photographer, wild orchid enthusiast, and a stamp collector. So what could be better!?!

For my foreign friends, I'm sorry that you will not be able to purchase them at your local post office, but you can order them from the website:

www.USPS.com/shop

Just type "orchids" in the search box.

Note that the above image has a USPS copyright. They have exclusive rights to the stamp designs although I retain all rights to the original images.

Northrup Falls

Big Branch

Coditz Cove State Natural Area

Fentress County

Allardt

Tennessee

This past weekend Lisa and I ran down to Oneida, Tennessee for a quick overnight trip so I could attend the Big South Fork National River And Recreation Area Photography Contest Award Ceremony at the Bandy Creek Visitor Center. I had been notified I was a finalist and to my amazement I was awarded first place in Kentucky Landscapes for my photograph of Split Bow Arch. It was great to meet and chat with some nice folks who enjoyed both my photography page and the Kentucky Waterfalls, Arches and Landscapes group. Since Hurricane Harvey was making it's way through the area, the following morning we made the 30 minute drive to the Coditz Cove State Natural Area for a hike to Northrup Falls. I have been to the falls twice, once in 2009 when I had just begun my interest in shooting waterfalls and the second time was in 2012 when it was completely dry. For years I've wanted to return to shoot Northrup because I didn't like those early shots I had taken of it. Upon our arrival on this latest trip we were greeted by a pack of super friendly pups, loaded with pup kisses, pup hugs and quite a bit of pee. I remembered the hike to not be very long and fairly easy. When we arrived to the confluence with the loop trail, with the pups in tow, I could see the falls in the gorge below and it was flowing perfectly. Though chilly, it was ultra humid. Beams of light were passing through the hemlock forest illuminating the morning mist. As we made our way into the gorge the trail became a bit more difficult and eventually the approach to the falls base the trail became far too difficult for Lisa to manage. I felt really bad because I wanted her to enjoy the beauty of the falls, but she insisted I go on without her, so I quickly made the scramble up the roots and the rock and made my way to the falls. As I walked behind the falls one of the pups ran down to the splash pool and laid down in it, tongue out and completely content. It was adorable. I didn't spend much time here, I didn't like her sitting there by herself, so I took a handful of compositions and quickly made my way back to her. I'm not sure if I'll ever get the chance to come back, the park is really out of the way when visiting the Big South Fork, but if I don't I'll now be satisfied with the shots I took.

Sometimes you have to laugh or you'll cry. Only a couple of hours before Robyn was supposed to go on, the photographers received an email notifying us that we would have to be at the media tent to be led into the photopit in groups of 20 and would not be allowed to shoot from the center so we'd have to choose a side. We were told that she would only allow photographs 47 minutes into her set and only one song each.

Now, anyone who has any common sense knows that when there's like 100 photographers and 20 per 3 songs, that means 60 photographers, which means you better be getting in line to be photographing Robyn early or you'll be left out. There goes getting home early and photoediting!

So, I like to think that photographers who shoot concerts are well meaning and wonderful people. In fact, I am friends with some concert photographers who are. But, at our very base level of human selves, apparently it's all a bunch of post-Darwinistic survival of the fittest devotees who couldn't care less that I had sacrificed getting food, going to the bathroom, and shooting most of Snail Mail and the special guest for Charli XCX from the crowd.

I found myself having to say, "But I was seventh in line, guys!" when a bunch of photographers at the last minute jumped to the front of the line and heightened my anxiety about life whilst simultaneously diminishing my general idea of how great other concert photographers can be in a world much too uncivil to begin with.

I digress and I still haven't caught up on my sleep so bear with me. Let's get back to the timing...47 minutes into her set. Not 46 minutes and 48 minutes was right out the window. If you get there at 44 minutes, you might as well just jump in a shark tank. 49 minutes? Please, just donate your camera to the next available stranger. But, 47 minutes yes that's exactly right. Did Robyn or Robyn's publicist just recently watch Christian Marclay's The Clock? Did someone realize that so much can happen in the space of one minute ?

Let's also not forget the insanity of these restrictions when thousands of fans take cell phone photos from every angle at every possible time so, for real, don't you want some great shots of yourself anyway and maybe if you're not going to ban all cell phones, it's pointless to be so restrictive.

Anyway, let me sum up my experience shooting Robyn. I shot from audience left/stage right. Robyn was pink...so pink in fact that it made me wonder how humanity would choose to other ourselves if we were all just born pink. I don't mind at all when a woman does what she wants. After all, I am a feminist. My camera, though, unfortunately does mind. My camera is male (his name is Dutronc) and maybe he needs to get a little woke because every time he sees pink skin tones he starts to shudder to the point of no control. Poor Dutronc...he's still not quite over this set.

Am I rambling? Oh yes, where was I. Ok, we entered thinking we'd get a full song. Most of this time was taken up by a dancer who was utterly beautiful but who was NOT Robyn. That's who I was waiting to photograph after all this time in the post Darwin nightmare-did you forget that? I didn't. After a couple of minutes Robyn came out and guess what...pink! All pink! Shocking pink! Pretty in pink? I'll let you decide that on your own. Then, after another 3 minutes photographers were told we had to exit. There was five minutes left in that song.

I explain all of this to you because I will inevitably at every festival get someone come up to me and say "How did you get that cool photopass?!?!" Then, I tell them how easy it is-you have to invest about $25,000 for photo equipment and stay up three straight nights photoediting after running around dealing with all sorts of last minute shenanigans.

But hey, at least there was no photo contract this time.

Please enjoy this photograph of Sweden's darling, Robyn. I worked hard for it! And, if you ever just want to know what it was like IRL, maybe put some pink cellophane over your screen, play "Show Me Love" and it's like you're there.

The Haydock Branch back in 1991 and petroleum sector 31302 & 31288 move off after notifying the bobby that they have cleared the WCML. This section of track called the Haydock Chord opened to traffic in April 1968 to give access to Ashton (BP Shell Mex) Oil distribution depot also access for empties into Golborne Colliery. By the winter of 1983 that traffic had gone leaving only Lowton Metals at Ashton. A new traffic flow of Bitumen to Kelbits for road surfacing products opened on the land formerly Cromptons rolling mills and was in production until 2005 when the work was transfered to Preston Docks.

The area in So. California where we live gets strong Santa Ana winds every year in October. Wind speed reached 77 miles per hour today. As soon as I had finished typing about our community, Calabasas city manager called me to notify of mandatory evacuation for all city of Calabasas residents until next week, Tuesday, 13th. So, we desided to travel southward.

Hi guys just sayin, if you are going to use my pictures in your blog PLEASE message me or comment me or somehow notify me, I don't mind, I'd just like to know. Another thing please do not remove my username on the picture, Thanks :D

Well I got bored in English so I started doodling on myself, its not a tatoo, at first it was only four then it just kept growing. Those scars between the stars were from Oscar, it wasn't intentional, he was just playing at got excited I guess. Haha. Sorry I haven't posted any pictures in a while guys, homecoming is finally over and at my school homecoming is a big deal, it's nothing like you've ever seen before. I know my pictures are getting repetitive, but I can't think of anything lately :\ Oh well, I'm walking in the Light the Night Walk tonight for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society so that should be good.

I'm losing it guys, no creativity whatsoever.

The Soo Line still ran a timetable and train order operation here, and Kenmare shows a signal to notify trains if they are to pick up orders here. Locals also ran on branches that went east from here (eventually to Thief River Falls, Minnesota, on the Winnipeg main), or west to Whitetail, Montana. Granger railroading at its finest.

everything by me
