In a more serious note – I still have to look back to the recent happenings. And it was not so nice ones.

Basically, showed me how changing the head people – whole spirit of the event can change. So – the event (under different names) I blog for like almost 3 years – happen to be a downfall of my emotional life. Under the circumstances of not being able to blog – simple because there was nothing to blog since event was on break due to shift of head people – I got warned. I got humiliated how I don’t have active blog. I got notice, half-able to read since it was not on even basic english, saying how – I’m not good. I’m not wanted. I’m LAZY. No matter I almost always produce the same number of images and it was never a problem before. Not in those words but still… then done what I could, when event started – then got kicked. Without notice, goodbye or even a – explanation?

Why am I saying this?

Why?

DESIGNERS.

EVENT MANAGERS.

Please.

Respect your bloggers.

Not because one blogger is telling you to do it, but because there is a million living people behind those avatars.

People who sometimes get bond with you, with your creations, with limited opportunity to wear/live/be whatever you imagine us to be.

Because some of us is not about NUMBERS. Some of us is not made to make a thousands of similar/same images just changing outfits…

Some of us strive to EXIST.

So let us do it.

Don’t judge us by requirements made to limit the blogger’s list and to produce senseless creations nobody will even take a look (and I am not trying to offend anyone, just to share something that is happening today).

Don’t made it impossible to love you.

Because, some of us – is simple here to stay. For long. As long as there is this virtual game. The world where we exist beyond borders.

Your creations will be promoted, you will make a money, world will kept spinning – but the bonds, the virtual ones is hard to make.

So if you ever do – don’t let it goes away.

Because – in some point of my life – acceptance and admiration is more important than anything, as I realized. The people, not matter and things.

Let us love you.

Dea.

Hey everyone, I've been pretty inactive for a while and I apologize. Personal things have come up in my life which affected both my physical and mental health, but I am doing my best to recover and I am happy to say I am doing better. I apologize to my sponsors for not notifying what has been happening. I just could not bring myself to do it and for that, I am sorry. I hope everyone is doing well and if you are celebrating Thanksgiving, I hope you eat a lot! xx

The Coast Guard notified boaters that they couldn't anchor in the Ohio River due to high water and a fast current. A day later the Coast Guard allowed boats to anchor for the Sunday evening fireworks....the river was much lower. These boaters will have to wait ten hours for the display. That's a lot of exposure to the sun. Image captured at Covington, Kentucky.

A pair of CSX motors snake their way into Maple Lake on CP 645. I got notified about this train when it was leaving St. Paul, and I wasn't gonna pass up the opportunity to shoot a CSX MAC leading on a clear winter afternoon.

Having grandchildren discover insects on their toys is beneficial. When they also run to notify you without disturbing said insect, it is glorious! Perhaps my identification skills are incorrect, but this beauty might be a Yellow Striped Armyworm Moth. A McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle from the 335th Fighter Squadron (335 FS) out of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina launches from the South EOR during a Red Flag 16-1 sortie. In 1991, During Operation Desert Storm, this aircraft (89-0487) was credited with downing an Iraqi Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter in the air using a GBU-10 laser-guided bomb. In 2012, this aircraft became the first F-15 of any type to log over 10,000 hours.

I had problems uploading this same photo yesterday, it wasn't showing up in people's feeds and got no views despite uploading 3 times. Seems okay this morning.

It caused me to discover another problem in that when I return faves they aren't always sticking. The fave goes on, but when I check a few minutes later it has dropped, but only on some. I religiously return all faves and I am very sorry if your fave is dropped. I had to return to some photos 3 or 4 times yesterday to get the fave to stick, it isn't with all photos, only some and is extremely time consuming. I've notified Flickr who have been very helpful and I will try to double and triple check as time allows, it's very disappointing as it is not in my nature to miss or ignore people.

Thanks for your understanding.

Continuing on my recent tear of CP SD40s, brings us to perhaps my most memorable chase to date. It's the spring of 2020, ballast season is in full swing, and CP has thrown sets of SD40s all over the Watertown Sub. Despite my best efforts I've had a troubled time getting sun on my chases. One May Day my luck changed for the better, while on a break at work, I was notified of a train at the pit with a trio of CP 40s, given the time and the odds stacked against me, I threw it on the back burner. A few hours go by, works done, and said train is at Portage adding a 40 to the trio. A quick check of the forecast and a time to beat in my GPS found me hauling south towards the Dells. Upon arrival a short wait later found the quad tearing out of Kilbourn after meeting one. The chase was on until the light was gone. Looking back now, my only regret was not taking the chance more often. 6017 has been repainted into the beaver scheme, though given PTC so the odds of seeing it leading a ballast train aren't entirely off the table

Photographed on the Camden Waterfront. It's unfortunate that someone was shot during this event. We weren't notified to leave via the speakers. They just cut the music off, and I assumed it was technical issues. The fireworks and music masked the gunshots. I didn't realize the crowd had left because I was so focused on the show. Other than someone being harmed, it's sad that someone had to ruin the 4th of July celebration for everyone. Fortunately, the police were able to arrest the suspect before things could have gone from bad to worse. What's even more sad is the city in front of me, Philadelphia had three shootings during the celebration. My condolences for the families that lost someone due to the senseless gun violence. My prayers are with you and any other state that had a shooting.

This handsome boy came up our driveway last Friday about a half hour past dusk. We have named him Chance because it was totally by chance that I saw him in the dark. We have never seen him around so of course I went to investigate. He immediately wrapped himself around my feet and legs. We pulled 10 engorged ticks off of him and bathed him and of course fed him well. I took him to our vet to see if he was micro chipped and he was. Long story short he is super friendly and was lost and is not feral. It turns out he was recently adopted out of a rescue and his micro chip was never registered by his new family. I checked all local rescue and lost and found websites and he is not listed as missing. The micro chip takes us to the original rescue organization and they were supposed to be notified if he ever went missing. So five days or more after he is lost his adopted family have not made any attempt to report him missing or post him missing on local lost and found sites. Pisses me off beyond words. He will stay here with us until this gets solved. I truly hope they don't let him go back to the family that adopted him. If you can't even report him missing and then actually go out and look for him then you don't deserve this beautiful boy.

I know that my own family lost their home here in Østre Strandgate during the city fire on June 8, 1892.

The disaster was a fact: A total of 350 houses and outbuildings of the finest wooden buildings in Kristiansand were gone. 4000 people became homeless.

"By the time the fire brigade arrived, the outbuildings in Rasmussens Gaard were already in hats." it says in the fire department's watch journal from June 8, 1892.

It was three o'clock in the afternoon, the place was Markensgate 11. The crews at the lookout post in Baneheia notified the fire brigade at Øvre Torv about smoke development.

"Whereupon there was an immediate outcry with the Snake Carriage and Crew." it is called in the journal.

The fire quickly took hold of the neighboring houses, and the strong, north-westerly wind drove the fire through the city and east towards Otra. People tried to salvage movables and household goods, without much success.

The mighty sea of flames made the sky light up from Mandal in the west to Arendal in the east. On the opposite side of the river, the sparking rain was so strong that people had to keep watch over their houses.

"In front of the fire front, wave after wave of lead gray and black smoke rolled over, so there was a eerie semi-darkness in the streets. It was like an experienced Pompeii's downfall. I myself helped save the contents of a house in the middle of the fire district. "In my recollection, it is precisely the semi-darkness, the sour smoke and the rumble of the rushing sea of fire. And there was a feeling of shortness of breath, for the air was dangerously hot, almost suffocating, even a whole block before the fire."

The next morning, Kristiansand's inhabitants could look out over a city where a third of the buildings were gone. Values for millions went up in smoke, and the fire service's watch journal says that a total of 350 buildings burned down, "at a total fire rate of 3,700,000 kroner". In the previous city fire, the cathedral had burned down; this time it was spared from the flames. However, a large area in the city was reduced to ashes, including Christiansholm Fortress, Tresse and several facilities at Østre Havn. Norges Bank's building, Sparebanken, fire station, post office and telegraph station were among the buildings that were the prey of the flames.

As the fire broke out in broad daylight, several valuables were salvaged, including mail at the post office and several different archives. The timing of the fire was a contributing factor to the loss of life. Two of the regular fire crews were badly injured during the fire; "One by crashing down from a rooftop", while the other got both Hands and Face badly burned ". In addition, several others in the fire brigade are said to have sustained less serious injuries. The next day, the watchdog reports that "every man [was] engaged in post-extinguishing work."

The city fire in 1892 is the largest and most devastating that has ever hit Kristiansand. The consequence was that the city council introduced coercion in the entire fire district and conditional coercion in the rest of the city, which significantly changed Kristiansand from a "wooden town" to a "brick town". This, together with a reorganization of the fire service, has contributed to Kristiansand not later becoming a victim of an urban fire.

The catastrophe could have been even greater if the city's new cathedral had not stood as a wide, protective wall against the northeastern part of the city. There was great anxiety that the flames would reach the ammunition in the Retranchement (Tresse) and at the Fortress. The soldiers removed most of it, but some had to be thrown into the sea.

Thanks Bill Chen for notifying me of this bird.

I've been waiting 5 years for this shot. Since I first stayed in an Airbnb in Alfama, I have fallen in love with this view. But ever since, there has been some construction site in the way.

On Friday morning, I went for a sunrise walk to the city and noticed that the construction sites finally cleared. Maybe you've seen my story. But unfortunately, the cloud cover was too thick.

Yesterday evening my phone notified me that the sunrise has a 60% chance of being decent. So I woke up today at 5:30 and tried my luck once again.

Oh boy, what a sunrise, indeed. 😱 I couldn't be happier!

Sometimes it's worth coming back to the same spot, don't you think?

One more from that -38C sunrise at Smith Falls, Ontario. CP Rail was always a good show at this crew change point, and everyone was always friendly.

On one trip, we notified the office of a extreme shifted log load on a train coming off the Chalk River Sub that we just photographed.. They took us very seriously. Radioed the train to proceed restricted. Upon it's arrival they extended gratitude, saying that coming through the crossovers at the permitted speed would surely had dumped the load all over the main tracks.. The car was removed from the train.

So near, yet so far. Did you enter The Landscape Photographer of the Year (LPOTY) 2022 competition? The winners were announced yesterday! www.lpoty.co.uk/news/2022-award-winners

Well, I had heard that winners would be notified well in advance, and I remained ever hopeful after I found out I had two entries shortlisted, but the phone didn't ring! OK, I didn't expect to win. My slapdash approach ensures my quality and technique are far below the levels required for a top notch image. But I was pleased to see that two of my images had distinct similarities to some commended shots so I was in the 'right area'. One was in the Historic Britain category with a picture of Anglesey barracks in Dinorwic, and the other in the Line in the Landscape category, with a shot of a steam train on a viaduct. If I had converted to B&W it would have looked pretty similar to the Runner-up.

Well, now I know I didn't win, I know I need to try harder. And for those who have never entered a competition, you should! Someone has to win. I would have been happy enough with a copy of the book but £10,000 for the winner is definitely worth going for.

On the night of March 8 1960, whilst transporting various goods including whiskey and yarn, the MV Plassy was struck by gales on its voyage from Kerry to Galway. The crew of 11 men, led by captain Thomas Wilson, from Artane, Dublin, came to difficulty when the Plassy hit Finnis Rock at 10 past 5 in the morning.

The crew notified Inis Oirr’s inhabitants by setting off a flare, which began a successful rescue mission that saved all members on board.

At the tail end of a later storm, the Plassy was lifted bodily from the position she was in, and shoved up beyond the high tide where it has rested ever since.

The site is featured in the opening credits of the television series Father Ted.

Yesterday morning, I rose out of bed at 5am and drove an hour to reach the top of an elevated, partially icy hillside road that overlooks the gorgeous St Thomas Church in the background. I have been here on three occasions before and I always look forward to visiting. Here's a link to watch one of my timelapses from a previous visit (it's an amazing timelapse by the way ;-) flickr.com/photos/melvin_nicholson/50404117152/in

I arrived 20 minutes before sunrise but in truth, there was no sun to rise, only low lying cloud that was rolling by. Still, it was worth setting up both cameras, my Canon R5 for stills and my Canon EOS R which was used to film me talking about how I go about creating the images I was about to shoot.

I was there over two hours, watching the low cloud roll through the scenery in front of me and it was glorious. There was a gorgeous blue hue offering up as a backdrop to the white church and snow and a seriously fierce hoar frost overnight had all the trees turn white. I was in landscape photography heaven I can tell you.

So here is one of the images that I captured and I will show many more from my day out with my camera yesterday in my upcoming YouTube video. This will be my first video on location since Lofoten Feb 2019. I hope it is going to be worth the wait ;-)

Enjoy and thank you for your support as always.

This is in remembrance of a special person who's passing I was notified of on the trip over. A wonderful, very special man. I think of him, Ruthie, and the kids from time to time, but the news made this night bittersweet. I know every time I see the Milky Way I'll think of him again.

A male monarch butterfly feeding on fleabane blossom nectar. Monarchs are toxic to most predators due to the glycosides they accumulate from consuming milkweed. But no one notified the red-vented bulbul, an introduced bird that I have seen consume monarch larvae. I haven’t seen monarchs in several years and hope this recent sighting of several is a resurgence.

LoL.. taken by me...

🎼: Harvest Moon ~Neil Young~

The ancient and sacred mound of the moon.

Probably…..maybe......

I mean I don’t know that, I just made it up, but it could be, it could have been back in the day, way before sheep farming and quad bikes became a stone age dream in a time when these hills were a playground for nature spirits and neolithic hunter grabbers who ran like the wind. Yes, I think back then it was probably revered as a place of moon worship. Think I'll notify the archaeo guys.

What’s that you say - yes of course I know I need evidence thank you very much, and I have it. I admit it is only circumstantial but very, very good circumstantial ……what’s more, you are looking at it right there. No, not the photograph but the fact - that isn’t a one off event you know, I’m not that lucky. No, it happens all the time over and over throughout the year, year after year, moon coming up right over that very mound and if dozy old Magoo is on to it don’t you think an ancient Celtic druid with mushroom enhanced vision and a beard like the tail of a comet would also be on the case? Stands to reason and he’d call it mound of the moon or similar.

I’ll bet they came from all parts to venerate it, thousands of them up there every month, high on adrenaline as the moon rose up, fires burning, drums beating, flickering flames daubed in mud and ochre, all howling, baying, cavorting and who knows what up there. I mean, there weren’t any police back then - just like with raves today …. Or if there were they were probably parked in front of someone else’s comfy fire dipping into the herbs or hassling healers - or more likely naked as babes and atop the hill with everyone else, sporting deer antlers, coming home stinking of grog and telling Mrs Neander-Plod they were doing heavy undercover work! Sigh - nothing new under the moon…..

And that sacred protector bird circling the mound tells me it may also have been a burial mound. I’d wander over there with a shovel myself and have a poke around but it’s an enormous hill and heck, I discovered it why should I have to do all the work - let the PhDs get some dirt under their nails and the smell of leather off their shiny pants.

Anyway, there you have it, my discovery, the Welsh ancient and sacred mound of the moon. I photographed it for you so that you can tell your friends and support it with proof.

You are most welcome. If you got this far - Merry Christmas.
