Last night I went on an engraving spree and got up the courage to work my way further into the figure. The image should hopefully become clearer as the project nears completion, but for now, I've added notes to the photo to indicate where some of the key features are (or will soon be).
This is a song by The Dubliners that my parents loved. I think the reason they loved it so much was because when my father was working in the building trade in Coventry in the 60s something very similar happened.
Dad was working as a labourer to the bricklayers which meant he had to do all the running & carrying for them. The brick layers were at the top of the scaffold and they wanted cement brought up to them. Dad got a bright idea. He put the cement into a barrel & attached the rope to the back of a dumper. He pulled away on the dumper to raise the barrel up. Next thing he knew a trowel was embedded in the dumper beside his seat. As he was pulling off the barrel wasn't actually lifting up, he was just pulling the scaffolding out from the building with all of the builders still on it. As you can imagine they weren't best pleased with him. :o)
The Vancouver Giants mascot, Jack, poses with a sad expression on his face as he copes with the meaninglessness of hockey mascot existence.
