Morning Ball Play
Self Portrait 2
Nikon z9, 105mm, 1/160s, f/8, ISO 200
•
For self portrait #2, I explored a daily occurrence of taking my pup out in the morning. Throwing on what ever warm clothes I can find and heading out to the yard. Today I explored with my 105 macro/portrait lens. It’s pretty tricky getting focus without being behind the lens. So much to explore for this task!

Double Stars
Favourites Series: Sunstars
From the Archives
•
My plan was to try to shoot Sunstars for the next 7-10 days, but since I live in the rain forest, the sun does not always cooperate. I decided to look back through my posted archives and found only about 10 or so Sunstars since I started posting a shot a day back in 2018 (?). This tells me it is rare for me to shoot Sunstars - could be why when I do get the chance they are always my favourite!

"This pacific tree frog is one of my best captures. He jumped out of my well when I checked it and on to my prize tulip that my mother in law gave me to grow. I have worked really hard to have my camera ready for such opportunity." - Dorthy Roi, 2016 myPQB Story Contest
"Another tradition in Parksville. Our most famous beach house potato salad with most of the ingredients bought from Cormie's Farm stand just across the Highway. Yummy!!!" - Susan Watson, 2013 myPQB Story Contest
Humpback Grizzly
From the archives Oct 2022

For my fourth grizzly trip, I organized a group of Photographers (including my dear friends Erin and Kristy) and we headed to Toba Inlet guided by my buddy Stan. On this trip we were on the ground and viewed bears from raised platforms - a totally different experience. This shot was taken as we walked to our platform. (Shot with Nikon Z9 400mm, cropped and edited on LR mobile).

"I wasn't a birder when I moved to the Island and I still wouldn't call myself an avid birder but rather an opportunist birder. If I see them, I have to stop and watch for awhile and the Island certainly has made me stop." - Lorene Kimura, 2016 myPQB Story Contest
"I have lived in the Parksville / Qualicum Beach area my whole life. Never have I seen a sunset or the sun rise the same as the day before or years before. Each day is different and this area is always adapting to the future. I took this picture with my cell phone last year with my best friend, Jolenne." - Laura Postema, 2013 myPQB Story Contest

Mt Washington’s zip line course is definitely on my bucket list for next summer! It was fun to watch several groups starting out on the course. What a thrill to ride along these mountaintops in the air.

Posing a Pup
The Many Sides of Nikki Series
Nikon z7, 31mm, 1/30 s, f/2.8, ISO 200
•
We started working with Nikki when she was a pup to teach her how to pose for photos. It took lots of patience on all our parts, hand fulls of treats, a sturdy tripod, and remote app to set off the camera (I was using the Nikon SnapBridge app for this shot). Just like wild life, it is not something a pet does simply on command (maybe now she will… still with treats). My intent was to have a portrait of our little family on this fun bridge on Spider Lake during a snowstorm. We did finally get a few good shots, but for today I really wanted to highlight the reality of photographing pups (and maybe children, too 😉😉). I’d love to hear your stories if posing pups for photos.

"My favorite view. Across the water to Mistaken Island. When I was young, I always thought it looked like Gilligan's Island and wanted to live there. It would definitely still be cool to live there!!!" - Susan Watson, 2013 myPQB Story Contest

Eagles are what we all came to see and photograph. What I like the most about this shot is the sheer contrast of colours with red boat (and suits), ocean blues and greens, and the white of an eagle’s tail (of course with that fish in his talons).

I love watching the cousins explore outside. The smallest things seem to grab their attention and keep them busy for hours. They also take their little army men and make up all sorts of pretend scenarios. Never ever a dull moment!
