How fast can you pan?? In this case I had a split second after I heard the trumpet of these Canadian geese to turn and look up - my finger already pressing the shutter. I wish I’d known they were coming as they presented with the perfect Canadian Goose “V”, but I was happy to see a little something show up on my playback. I have to say the Z9 surprised me with its performance on a fast moving shot (photographer and subject). It’s nice to have a little blue sky in my feed as well!

It was quite fascinating to watch this bear stick his head right under the water, open his eyes, and look for fish. I never tire of watching animal behaviour - I just wish I could spend more time out with the bears!

This exuberant 11 year old is always in motion. I tried out highlight metering while she was spinning in circles and was happy with the result. Her big sister helped with editing to bring out the perfect feeling in the photo. What do you think of this shot?

A little info on this shot. It was one of the first ones I took down at Judges Row. There was a crescent moon and purple Aurora shoots on the left side of the frame. Clouds offer a cool perspective to these Auroras. It reminded me a bit of a lightning show on a stormy day. It was phenomenal!

Sniffing Us

My second Grizzly tour with Tide Rip Grizzly to Knight Inlet was during 2020. I was solo with a group of strangers and masked the entire time. It was fall and a different experience. I met Anthony Bucci on this trip - a fellow amazing photographer here on Vancouver Island. This bear was definitely smelling us in the distance. (Shot with Nikon d850 500mm, cropped and edited on LR mobile).
