This was taken from the Mt Fox ridge, which, if you keep following will take you all the way to Mt. Tasman's summit. As the night air cooled and the clouds dropped into the valleys below, we were rewarded with this view of Mt Tasman, for about 2 minutes. The visibility from the tent the following morning was about 2 feet... Another turnaround.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a sculpture carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore near Keystone, South Dakota, in the United States. Sculpted by Danish-American Gutzon Borglum and his son, Lincoln Borglum, Mount Rushmore features 60-foot sculptures of the heads of former United States presidents (in order from left to right) George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
This is Mt. Mitchell (NC) Fire Department former Engine 18. The department just received a new engine which will become Engine 18 and this engine will become Engine 2.

Yellowstone NP, WY, Grand Loop Drive. The shorter drive through Norris was closed so we had to do this climbing drive by Mt Washburn, which gave me a chance to see some more wonderful clouds

High atop Shade Mountain in Snyder County, Pennsylvania stands Mt Pigsah Altar. It was built by Robert Cryan of Beaver Springs in 1979 and offered to the public as a place where people could come and worship quietly or hold marriage ceremonies with a breathtaking view of 25-30 miles.

A portion of the trail to the top of Mt. Washington. The lower section of the hike is snow free, which exposes the rocks and roots that one gets to hike on. The last 1.3 miles is covered in mostly compact snow and ice.
Our local topographic attraction, Mt. Diablo (3,864 ft), received a light dusting of snow last week, which is fairly uncommon. As I needed to leave for San Diego early the next morning when the light would've been better, I hurried home from work this evening to at least catch the contre-jour version of the shot for an HDR preparation.

This spot is worth a visit if you like to hear birds, frogs,waterfowl, and other wildlife singing loudly in the evening. It was a beautiful symphony of sounds...oh yes, and I couldn't feel my wind battered face!

As the sun settled down behind the dusky clouds and the swarming sea, the sky took on a pale blue, slowly settling to a deep pink towards the horizon, as though blushing with emotions at the end of a (successful) day.
The towering snow-capped peak in front of me had long kissed its goodbyes to the setting sun, and chose to make peace with the oncoming darkness: its somber hues more a reflection of its muted silence than a kindled spirit.
And the beautiful Picture Lake settled down, its pensive mood indicated by its turbulent surface now replaced by a picture-perfect reflection that earns its name.
It was this exact moment of earthly contemplation that I descended upon the boardwalk jutting out lake, hoping to capture the depressed hues and the deep shades that characterized the time of the day, with the pink cast of Belt of Venus completing the scene. And that is what I did. This was the result of one of the attempts.

This is Mt. Nevis and I captured this image while walking from Nisbet Beach to Herbets Beach. It's a narrow and nature beach with the jungle grown almost up to the shoreline. As used a Olympus OMD with a 40-150 4-5.6 lens on it. Processed in Lightroom using the Intensify Pro plug-in.
Another relic from my 1975 Pacific Crest Trail hike. Taken a bit north of the Killen Creek area where I had camped the night before. Not my best work, as I shouldn't have included that tree on the right in the shot (or at least had should have had it in focus). Scan of a 35mm Ektachrome slide.

Just sprucing up the ol' MT-LB. This time a plate lower and bit more simplified structurally. Now onto the synopsis:
Although the SFRY itself (prior to its transformation into the SRY) had never operated the MT-LB in large numbers given its split with Moscow, it did manage to purchase a fair number from unified Germany once the East German stores were deemed costly and inadequate. After internal reformation, the Socialist Republic's Ministry of Defense quickly decided to upgrade the lightly armored APC into an intermediary IFV/MICV meant to operate between extended front and reserve lines; more or less, the SRY simply refined the battle taxi archetype.
The so-called MT-LB+ operated by Yugoslavia features a hefty 40mm chain gun and usually one to two anti-tank projectiles. Both of these armaments have the capability of harassing, deterring, and in some cases neutralizing enemy armour and of course soft-skinned vehicles. Applique armor is another feature of the MT-LB+, which is quite obviously meant to enhance the survivability of the crew and passengers. Although the original enhancement program also desired composite sideskirts for even more safety, the relatively cramped road wheels prone to being gunked up made such a feature impractical. In no way do these upgrades make the MT-LB+ a grand fighting vehicle, but it sure beats traveling by foot or in an exposed lorry.

So it turns out that Bruce was in that helicopter that we had seen flying down the valley as we descended French Ridge. The weather had cleared and he made the trek to Bevan Col where he was picked up and flown out. He enjoyed luxury accommodation in Wanaka that night!
Ion Mihaila made it to the airport in time to meet his wife and child as they arrived for their NZ holiday. He could barely walk after the previous days hike out! He will be uploading photos from the trip to his flickr account soon so check them out!
Conor flew home on time to a rapturous welcoming from his family who all turned out for the occasion. He was expecting to catch a cab home I think ;) Plus he beat me through customs by at least half an hour!
I missed my flight by only a matter of hours and after much angst trying to book a new flight, I got the last seat out that day. I did make it home for the ballet concert though!
Thanks to my fellow mountaineers for the adventure. It will be one I will never forget!
