This was taken from the top of Mt Washburn in Yellowstone National Park. You can see the trail leading up the summit and beyond that The Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone. That leads to Hayden Valley with the Yellowstone river winding through and way in the distance you can even see Grand Teton mountain.
Woke up early to get a sunrise on Mt sinai, but the sun decided to sleep in, so it came up late over the clouds. There was a lot of dust in the air too which gave it a Mars feel to it. One of the things I enjoyed most about the Sinai was the loud silence!

They are having a very sad start to the snow season this year
They would love to see some mornings like this with fresh snow and all the snowguns blazing at -7C
There is barely any non man made snow below 2000 meters and not much above it either at the moment
The snow turned pink as soon as the sun popped over the top and then orange before quickly fading

I was walking the Xiaoyoukeng trail to Mt. Qixing. On top, I didn't see much. This is the best shot from the whole walk.
I've been to Oregon (in this case I'm in Washington) several times and each time I've been there when hiking I've never had a clear view of Mt. Hood - it has always been encased in a cloud.
I was so happy to get this view from the top of Coyote Wall from the Washington side of the Columbia River.
Starting to get a bit cooler here so doing what any level-headed beach lover would do today - heading off to Fiji for a holiday. Last time I was in Fiji was 2005 with 3 kids in tow. Now we will be with a granddaughter, how quickly the circle of life turns!
This photo isn't Fiji btw. I was looking to see if I had any Fiji shots to post but I wasn't into photography back then. So here's a shot from New Zealand instead. In my defence we are all South Pacific Islands ;) This photo is of Mt Maunganui, the mount itself and the town nestled under it. It is located in the Bay of Plenty region and connected to the city of Tauranga on the mainland, via a man-made land bridge.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to walk around, or up the Mount as we had to jump a bus to Rotorua where geothermal delights were waiting for us, you know boiling mud pools, toxic sulphur pools, exploding hot water geysers and the like, all the regular stuff ;) Was a great day except for maybe the end where I was one of half a dozen visitors "randomly" selected to get up in front of hundreds of visitors and perform a Haka with some Māori warriors. At least I'm good at pulling faces. Why is it always me?
Anyway, I must get back there one day, and if I do, I'll post a photo from Fiji before I go :)

I went back to our friends' accommodation to see the sunrise on Mt Roland. It was a beautiful cold frosty morning.
View of Mt Ruapehu seen from somewhere along the Desert Road on the way down to Porirua. The sun nicely lit up the desert grasses and some parts of the mountain. Needless to say that I found this a more than pleasant enough sight to photograph!
From Wikipedia: Mount Ruapehu is an active stratovolcano at the southern end of the Taupo Volcanic Zone in New Zealand. It is 23 kilometres northeast of Ohakune and 23 km southwest of the southern shore of Lake Taupo, within Tongariro National Park. The North Island's major ski resorts and only glaciers are on its slopes.

Another favorite peak of the Canadian Rockies...
Looking across the rocky shore of Banff's Lake Minnewanka at Mt. Inglismaldie.
"Mount Inglismaldie (9724 ft, 2964 m) is the second-highest peak of the Fairholme Range in Banff National Park.
The mountain was named in 1886 by park superintendent George A. Stewart after Inglismaldie Castle in Kincardineshire, Scotland.
"Minnewanka Lake is a glacial lake located five kilometres (3.1 miles) northeast of the Banff townsite. The lake is 21 km (13 mi) long and 142 m (466 ft) deep, making it the 2nd longest lake in the mountain parks of the Canadian Rockies (Maligne Lake is the longest)." Wiki
Actually, it is a reservoir with a dam that does generates some power for Banff Township. Impressive regardless.

I thought I'd better follow-up my Angel's Landing post from a couple days ago with a legitimate campsite photo. This was taken in New Zealand from a high alpine ridge near Mount Cook. Fortunately, somebody had built a nice rock barricade to protect from the wind. I really liked the late twilight glow in the sky with Mt Cook emerging through the clouds. I had to use ISO 640 since there was enough wind to cause tent blur (1.3sec exposure). Even still, there is some slight movement in the tent.

First trip to Mt. Rainier National Park. This place is truly magical and i can not wait to go back and further explore it. This shot is taken off the road overlooking Tipsoo Lake. Was hoping for better sunset colors and possibly a Milky Way shot but the forest fire smoke rolled it and covered the view of the mountain.
