Mt. Walker, located in the Olympic National Forest, is the only peak facing Puget Sound that has a road to its summit. It is densely covered with 100 year-old Douglas-fir trees and Native Pacific rhododendrons. The south viewpoint is at an elevation 2805 feet.
The Hood Canal and the nearer Dabob and Quilcene Bays are the waterways in the foreground and Puget Sound is in the distance. Seattle, 28 miles away, is faintly visible at the horizon
Mt Rainier National Park, Washington, framed by clouds welling up in the valley and the ever present trees from the Sunrise access point.
Joy and I had the opportunity to spend 20 days exploring Olympic and Rainier National Parks and the Oregon coast. The road trip covered 4000 miles. Coming from the brown of southern California, the intensity of the GREEN in the temperate rain forests wad almost overwhelming. The weather was tough (it is a RAIN forest!) and the light challenging, but it was a magnificent trip. I hope you enjoy some of the shots
I finally escaped from the BC smoke out and headed up to see my old friend Mt. Shuksan. There was still a little smoke haze around, but at least I could breath again and Picture Lake was picture perfect as always..... For as heavily as this place is visited, I was just about the only one there....

We left CLNP in the south and drove to Hood River up north.
Mt Hood dominates the landscape in the northern half of the state. HFF!
Mount Ngauruhoe is an active stratovolcano or composite cone. It is the youngest vent in the Tongariro volcanic complex on the Central Plateau of the North Island, and first erupted about 2,500 years ago. Mt. Ngauruhoe erupted 45 times in the 20th century, and most recently in 2012.
Late fall when most of the snow pack has melted leaving Mt. Hood pretty much bare bones..no white coat until it snowed 24" that night The wondrous part is the evergreen forest stays green all year.

This was taken from the top of Mt Washburn in Yellowstone National Park. You can see the trail leading up the summit and beyond that The Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone. That leads to Hayden Valley with the Yellowstone river winding through and way in the distance you can even see Grand Teton mountain.
About 1/2 hr ago so I guess I’m Kinda up to date , it was overcast and sun broke through nicely! This was just the beginning of a spectacular end of day in Banff , The Lord really put on a show , I only captured a small amount of it .

Here's a different view of Mt. Baker for me. This one is taken from the north side of the Fraser River by Mission.
Mt Skarfjellet, 1790 MASL, is a famous mountain for climbers.

I hope that the Mt. Whitney Viewpoint, with its rustic wooden sign, will look much the same 50 years from now as it has for the past half-century I’ve been visiting.
Some places, especially those as remote and protected as the lands around Mount Whitney, have a timeless quality to them, resisting significant change.
It's a special experience to witness a place that seems to defy the rapid changes of the modern world, offering a consistent connection to nature over generations

Mount Whitney is a prominent peak in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, located in east-central California. It holds the distinction of being the highest point in the contiguous United States, with an elevation generally cited as 14,505 feet (4,421 meters) above sea level.
Mount Whitney straddles the border of Inyo and Tulare counties, and its western slope lies within Sequoia National Park, while its eastern slopes are in Inyo National Forest. It rises dramatically over 10,000 feet above the Owens Valley floor to its east.
Mount Whitney is primarily composed of granite, formed during the Cretaceous period. Its distinctive shape has been sculpted by ancient glaciers, leaving behind cirques, moraines, and thousands of glacial lakes in the surrounding landscape.
Mount Whitney was named in 1864 in honor of Josiah Whitney, who was the state geologist of California and sponsored the geological survey that discovered it. The first recorded ascent was on August 18, 1873, by Charles Begole, Albert Johnson, and John Lucas.
Mount Whitney is remarkably close to Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, which is the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level. This proximity creates a dramatic contrast in elevation within a relatively small geographic area.

Back from Xmas with the family and I'm indebted to a local photographer for this shot. He suggested getting down on to the surface of Vermillion Lakes and looking for reflections in some of the pools that weren't frozen over. I'd have stayed longer but I find it hard to work at -14C.

They would love to see some mornings like this with fresh snow and all the snowguns blazing at -7C
There is barely any non man made snow below 2000 meters and not much above it either at the moment
The snow turned pink as soon as the sun popped over the top and then orange before quickly fading

I was walking the Xiaoyoukeng trail to Mt. Qixing. On top, I didn't see much. This is the best shot from the whole walk.
A view of the steep Mt Taranaki stratovulcano. It is the second highest peak on the North Island and one of the most active volcanoes in New Zealand and has last erupted in 1854. The 2518-metre mountain has a secondary cone, Fanthams Peak / Panitahi at 1966 metres tall, on its south side. Because of its resemblance to Mount Fuji, Taranaki provided the backdrop for the 2003 film The Last Samurai.
This shot is a pano from a series of handheld shots. I pushed the ISO up to 1600 as I needed to stop down my aperture to get the depth of field. Can you spot the lone seagull? I was standing just outside the perimeter of the protected dotterel nesting grounds.
I've been to Oregon (in this case I'm in Washington) several times and each time I've been there when hiking I've never had a clear view of Mt. Hood - it has always been encased in a cloud.
I was so happy to get this view from the top of Coyote Wall from the Washington side of the Columbia River.
I went back to our friends' accommodation to see the sunrise on Mt Roland. It was a beautiful cold frosty morning.
Alpine glow and shadow of ridge as sun begins to set at 6:58 pm. Time is noted because by 7:04 pm clouds in the west had blocked the setting sun from view. More photos to come.
Alignment was adjusted to put high points on mt. directly above their reflection. Curvature of pool's shoreline makes it look off.
