Statue Park - B sits to ponder what we'll get up to next...and the mosquitos take their cue to attack mercilessly!
de Havilland Mosquito DH.98. Version B MK25. Believe to have been built on or near March 1945 Downsview Ont.
In Gaspe QC sometime in what was said to be a Sunday in late May 1945, this would be the approximate ditching spot in Wakeham. Plane appears to have belly landed in the field to the south (bottom middle) and slid to a stop as seen in the photographs. Happened on a Sunday morning when church was in. Fuel exhaustion was said to be the cause. Pilot and navigator apparently survived with no injuries.
Church goers can be seen standing by the road in this image.
I tend to suspect that the aircraft could have been:
A- In transit to Gander NL, via Dorval, St Hubert or Bagotville QC with 45 GP TC RAF Ferry group.
B- On a St Lawrence patrol from Debert, or Greenwood NS No.8/7 OTU respectively.
C- On a training mission from Debert or Greenwood.
Very little to go on, as no info is available on line for this event. Plane serial can be found on line. If you have anything please comment.
View due North, persons seen standing on what would be off to the south side of Montee Du Wakeham road. Mount Bechervaise peak in background.
St James Anglican Church and the house at 544 Montee Du Wakeham still stand today. www.google.com/maps/@48.8262594,-64.5440803,3a,75y,352.39...
A rare plant, whose flowers are like containers in which mosquitoes and insects are trapped. It was one of the plants displayed at the vast collection - display and sale - at the Siolim Festival of Plants and Flowers, a three-day affair which began today i.e. August 25, 2012. One of my friends reminded me that it is called the "pitcher" plant.... the flower resembles a pitcher.

Well, at least it was the size of a mosquito. But it had those weird feelers I don't remember seeing on mosquitos.
The prototype originally had the factory registration E0234, it was later given the Military reg W4050, which can be seen faintly under a repaint to represent the prototype scheme.De Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre. Copied from a slide, using Pentax K20D, extension rings, Rikenon F2 50 mm lens and a slide copier.
General view of some of the aircraft at the de Havilland Aircraft Heritage Centre in 1975 (then known as the Mosquito Aircraft Museum). Shown are a Mosquito, Vampire FB.6, Vampire T.11 and Venom NF.3
