The only flying Mosquito in the world was invited to the "Classic Flyers" Museum in Tauranga for a visit yesterday.The public had the opportunity to hear from pilot Keith Skilling and to meet the Avspecs team that completed the restoration at Ardmore airfield .

 

The all-wood World War II de Havilland Mosquito FB 26 KA114 was rebuilt & restored over the last 8 years for an American owner.

 

"The Mosquito is the RAF’s first multi-role aircraft. It was built largely from plywood, which is one of the reasons why in the days before epoxy resins, they did not survive long after the war.

 

It is powered by twin Rolls Royce Merlin engines, the same liquid cooled 27 litre V12 that powered the Hurricane and Spitfire fighters, the Avro Lancaster bomber and the P51 Mustang."

I'm fortunate enough to only live about 2 hours away from the Mosquito Range. This particular basin has 8 lakes that are al fed from snow melt from the surrounding peaks. You could shoot here all summer and not get the same shot. Pentax 67II Pro, 45mm lens, 4 sec @ f/22, fuji velvia, .9ND Lee

If there is one hostel in the world you could stay in then I would recommend mosquito creek. It really is one of the best places in the rockies.
