We were eaten alive by the mosquitoes yesterday morning at the Bonnet House. If you have not seen this piece of old Florida, it is something you must do if you are in the area.
You won't get bitten more if you view it large... go ahead, there's a can of OFF in the golf cart.
While I was trying to find something interesting around one of my rock storage areas (unfortunately, I still haven't replaced all of the five-gallon buckets - seen in the background) I stirred up some mosquitos and one flew right into a crab spider's web. It did not take long for the spider to locate and kill the wayward insect.
This is an aptly named place. The mosquitoes can be aggressive around here; however, they do slow down in the winter.
Non blood sucking mosquito that lives by sucking nectar frm leaves & flowers. The bushy antenna signifies that this mosquito is a male :)
Lake Mývatn literally means "mosquito lake". And we've noticed it! You can't go outside, or within one second you are surrounded by a swarm of those hairy mosquitos. (close your mouth, cover your ears and nose!)
You have to hurry to get in the car but still can't avoid to take a whole bunch of unwanted passengers with you. The inside of our room was filled with dead and living mosquitos. Mosquito hell, mister.
Ah well, luckily they don't sting!
The worse part was that we had to stay there for 3 days (where as with other locations, we only stayed 1 or 2 nights).
Even worse: the water of the taps smelled like rotten eggs because the place is also situated nearby sulphur fields. (showering, doing the dishes, brushing your teeth: yum-yum!).
One thing I know for sure: I wouldn't want to live there!
