Another shot of the church from different angle, showing the elevation above the surroundings at the top of the hill.
Out Sunday running a photography workshop and with the weather overcast we headed back into the woods to shoot the water down Wyming brook and then decided to finish the day at Carhead rocks in the slim chance that the sun may appear for the sunset.
A heavy layer of thick cloud blocked out the sun during most of the golden hour, but the thinner cloud just above the horizon was light enough to allow the sun to add a little colour and almost showed itself as it set creating a quite moody atmosphere.(1/4 f6.3 @ 12mm 0.9 reverse ND grad filter)
EN - The huge Grand Hotel in Toblach (Pusteria Valley, Northern Italy) was built in 1877 and was originally known as Südbahnhotel due to the recently-built railway (bahn in German) which had a train station in front of the buildings.
During WW1 it was used as a military hospital for the nearby fighting front and was heavily damaged in 1918. After some repairs, it changed many owners until it was sold to the Italian State who used it as a holiday location for needy families.
After 1991 it was completely restored and the Grand Hotel is now a conference centre, a youth hostel and offices for local organizations.
With the poor weather today, I had a go at a re-edit of an image taken at Cwm Idwal earlier this year. I have put a lot of time into learning different and new techniques in photoshop recently and can see an improvement in my images over the last few months.
This image was taken with the promise of a good sunrise from the met office that never materialised. The rain and mist that descended upon the mountains did create a moody and dramatic atmosphere though!
I took this image on the way to Glenorchy from Queenstown in New Zealand. I think looking on the map ( and please correct me if I am wrong) that this may be Tooth Peaks?? I just loved the moody rainy weather that I got on this day, just look at that low cloud and mist!

Alast minute decision to go to Porthcawl with my friend Gerald.the forecast was a bit of an unknown entity, and with it raining as we left home,i wondered as to wether we would be wasting our time.....
First light at Bempton Cliffs
frames this solitary Gannet. I was shooting at 1/50 sec handheld, wide open at F2. I kinda like the moody feel here as the sea is thrown out of focus forming the backdrop.
In her final year of service the Algoma Central Marine motor vessel "Algoway" enters Manistee Lake, after sailing in from Lake Michigan on the Manistee River. Looking rough around the edges with lots of rust the Algoway has been pretty much hauling road salt her last decade, which really has taken its toll on the old girl. Just before dawn moving slowly through moody surface fog she sails down the Lake toward a dock for her unload on August 8, 2017.

Everything was wonderful -- the sign, the service, our dinner, even the cookbook I bought.
It's been a while since I did a moody monochrome seascape so I thought I'd have a go with another shot from Sharrow Point on Sunday evening.
The early evening's moon today suited my mood. This ends up a bit moodier than I was shooting for since I left the camera on Auto-ISO. When I realized the error the moment was gone.
BTW I only slightly boosted the color.
The summer rains are keeping everything green and beautiful down here in Queenstown. Here's last night's sunset over the Remarkables with Dalefield down below (that's the area between Queenstown and Arrowtown). I don't know if you watch my silly Instagram stories or not, but you might have seen this same sunset from about 30 minutes prior when I left the new QT Hotel over by the lake. We're thinking of having our next New Zealand workshop there! More info at www.stuckincustoms.com/workshops
