happy mono monday!

Every Saturday from 9 t0 3 a derelict looking building in Braamfontein Johannesburg is transformed into a riot of tempting smells and lively socialising. From South African favourite biltong to Spanish paella and truly jaw-dropping cupcakes; there is a variety of hand crafted food on offer.

The guy was obviously telling a big big story, and I had to quickly sneak the images, so not a 100% sharp but I still like the feeling of the image

I still find it odd that Australia gets a public holiday for the Queens Birthday but the UK does not (lol). My daughter and I spent a portion of the day down at our local gorge, here's a few grabs. On and check out the gif below :-)

Cheers Queenie! Happy Mono Monday!

I think we can all feel a bit like this on Sunday!

Happy Mono Monday!

Day off work today so up early doors, got Riley ready and packed off to nursery and hit the road.

Another spot from my new book, The photographers guide to the Peak District.

This is Bolehill Quarry which lies at the top of Padley Gorge. Such a gorgeous place and not another sole in sight or sound in earshot.

Took various shots but there was something missing, there wasn't much in the way of foreground interest so in I went.

Converted to mono and a sizeable crop. I also toned down the exposure of the scene then lightened myself and the end of the pathway with a radial filter.

I'll definitely be back here again. Hopefully before sunrise and with a sizeable portion of mist as that would be perfection.

This is number 117 of my 365.

This shot was always meant to be Mono but I found a colour template that worked quite well and slotted in with the previous work so I waiting till later to bung this version up.

It was Friday evening, there was a construction work going on near my home for a few weeks now.

There were these "7 men and this only lady "working at the site. She did not have any core job in the construction department,

but she was given to transport bricks and filter sand "as seen".

As soon as they knew their work was over for today they started to crack jokes on each other,

soon it became a "laughter club".After all it was "Weekends" to follow !

Cockatoo

The word cockatoo dates from the 17th century and is a derivation from the Indonesian name for these birds, "kakatuwah" (meaning "vice" or "grip"; from its strong beak) or from the call of the white cockatoo itself, via the Dutch kaketoe; the word cock possibly influencing. Seventeenth-century variants include cacato, cockatoon and crockadore, and cokato, cocatore and cocatoo were used in the eighteenth century. The derivation has also been used for the family and generic names Cacatuidae and Cacatua respectively.[

In Australian slang or vernacular speech, a person who is assigned to keep watch while others undertake clandestine or illegal activities, particularly gambling, may be referred to as a "cockatoo". Proprietors of small agricultural undertakings are often jocularly or slightly disparagingly referred to as "cocky farmers.

This shot was also crying out for some mono treatment, so here it is.

If you look closely at these towers you can almost visualise the energy aura that surrounds them.

To get the full ionised impact, I copied the original and opened them both in Photomatix and told the program they were 1 stop different.

Then I wound up a lot of the settings until I had an aura around the steelwork.

New South Wales is currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of rainfall, causing havoc in many parts of the state,18,000 people have been evacuated from their homes due to floods.

After a couple of wet days cooped up I decided I needed to get some fresh (wet) air and headed into my local national park, really to just illustrate the obvious and why it is currently closed.

Despite all the wet destruction I still cannot deny the beauty in rain, especially in the subtle things.

You could take this in a couple of ways. If you are travelling by ship, you may want to take some storm soother with you, and then there's the other interpretation.

This is a compilation of 3 different images, as if you couldn't guess.

Back from another Euro tour, so to balance the scales today's #monomonday is from a British icon - Battersea Power Station.

The synchroscopes in 'Control Room B' were used to synchronise the massive 100MW generators with the National Grid.

I have assigned myself a little 2025 project. Although I have taken many photos of town hall over the years, I believe that you can never take the same photo twice. So, I plan to taken a bunch more over the year although these two today weren't planned ahead of time.

I shot through the bare branches and converted to mono with the bit of a vintage style look.

Truthfully, I am not struck on these photos, but they are a beginning to a project.

Happy Mono Monday
