After a little quality time with the dremel tool, the part of the pot that engaged the output gear is gone.
with Sonja's encouragement, I'm posting my modification of her great witch pattern. This modification have shoes/socks that weren't included in the first version.
left:
CP Soo SP, modding head, opening eyes.
Not done yet. I need to get the eyeshape right first, and also need to make some space inside her head for the eyeballs.

I opened the eyes. They were totally closed, so it was difficult to open them since it's a small head and I didn't want to open them too much.
The mouth is also mchanged a bit. I made the mouth a bit wider by changing the corners of the mouth. The lips are also sanded.

This boy face needs to become a girl.
I am sanding off parts of the heavy eyebrows, and the nose is already a bit tinier. I am not done yet, I need to get it balanced more. Also the eyes are opened, but need to be a bit more opened first.

The MiG-21 was the Soviet Union's first truly modern, second-generation jet fighter. Testing began in 1956, and the first version entered service in 1960 as the MiG-21F-13. Soviet designers developed a unique configuration with a very thin delta wing, which gave the aircraft maneuverability, high speed, good medium-altitude performance, and adequate takeoff and landing characteristics.
The MiG-21 became the standard Soviet clear-air interceptor. With the addition of radar, more powerful engines, and other modifications, it became a multi-role fighter. More than 6,000 MiG-21s of 12 types were flown by over three dozen nations. This MiG-21F-13 was displayed in a Soviet military hardware exhibit at Bolling Air Force Base, Maryland, as part of a "Soviet Awareness" training program. Its service history remains unknown.

NATO forces gave the MiG-21 the code name “Fishbed”, a rather unappealing moniker for their premier fighter jet that the Soviets found insulting.
The Mig-21 came from the successful design bureau of Artem Mikoyan and Mikhail Gurevich. The MiG-21 Fishbed F is a short-range, supersonic, day fighter-interceptor and the first major production version of the popular MiG-21 series. It is but one of many versions of this aircraft that have served in the air arms of many nations around the world. The E-5 prototype of the MiG-21 was first flown in 1955 and made its first public appearance during the Soviet Aviation Day display at Moscow's Tushino Airport in June 1956.
During the Vietnam War, MiG-21s were often used against U.S. aircraft with deadly effect, especially against F-105 Thunderchiefs. The contest was far from one-sided, between April 26, 1965, and January 8, 1973, USAF F-4s and B-52s claimed to have downed 68 MiG-21s.
More than 30 countries of the world--including nations friendly to the U.S.--have flown the MiG-21. At least 15 versions of the MiG-21 have been produced, some outside the Soviet Union. Estimates place the number built at more than 8,000, a production total exceeding that of any other modern jet aircraft.
There were 194 MiG-21F-13's built in Czechoslovakia. Their version did not have a cockpit window behind the pilot's head.

I'm starting to put it back together. All the gears are back in place. You can see the output screw head in the top assembly.

This Trek 720 frame was one of the models without canti posts. Jeff Lyon brazed the cantilever posts and the hanger onto the rear triangle. Nice clean work.

I visited Haines Point at lunch today. The weather, as you can see from the sky in the background, was rapidly turning sour. A light rain was starting to fall, and a cold autumn wind was kicking up in earnest. Looking around for an interesting subject, my attention was captured by this heavily modified boat tucked along the hillside. The mottled paint showed a significant amount of aging, and I truly wonder about the intended purpose of the boards that were added on top. With the tall grasses blowing in the wind on the crest of the hill, I thought it made an interesting overall scene.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, details, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Machined a set of 4: 4 in. tall riser blocks for a twin cylinder steam engine. Here they are getting a trial fit. Next job: making longer valve rods and connecting rods.
Turn the potentiometer knob by hand. At some point in its travel, the motor will stop. That's where we want to leave it. At this point we just want to learn the centered orientation of the knob -- we'll readjust it and fix it in place later.
Try this: once the potentiometer is properly centered, the motor will stop running. Now move the stick on the transmitter. Move it one way and the motor goes one way, move it the other way and the motor reverses. When you put it back in the center, the servo should stop again. Listen to the servo when it's stopped. If the potentiometer isn't perfectly centered, you may hear a little humming. You can tweak the pot to eliminate the hum.
