This is a photograph from the 3rd and penultimate round of the 2015 Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 20th May 2015 at 20:00. The weather was perfect for running and racing and even an improvement on last week. Bright sunshine with little or no breeze were conditions greeted by all the runners this evening. This seemed to also make the course quicker than last week with many runners recording faster times than the 1st or 2nd round race. This year's 5KM is ran on a modified route based on the route from the last couple of years. The final 1KM is within the Belvedere Gardens bringing runners down to the lakeside for a second time and finishing along the aptly named Stream Of Life. The route modification means that the race offers a slightly faster route than the hill finish of previous years. After tonight all attention turns to the final night of the road league next week.
The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Runners can also choose to just run one race without being considered for the overall league placings. Over 330 people took part in tonight's event bring the total from the three nights to so far to well over 1,000 runners. As with last week the new finish area provided a nice space for runners to stay around and chat in the evening sunshine. The Mullingar Road League 2015 is now half-way through and has continued successfully and looks to add to the success in the history of this great series. Despite the bright evenings the photographic conditions in Belevedere are difficult so this photograph is part of a smaller than usual photograph set as there were many blurred photographs this evening.
The "Road League" is something of a misnomer but is an indication of the League's origins on the roads around Ladestown Mullingar prior to it's move into Belvedere in 2008. The Road League is the envy of many other races in the country as the Belvedere locations offers a completely traffic free 5KM route.

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. March Field Air Museum
The swept-wing single-seat Republic F-84F "Thunderstreak" was a modification of the straight-wing F-84 "Thunderjet" series of post-war sub-sonic United States Air Force jet fighters. Armed with six 50-caliber M-3 aircraft machineguns, 24 5-inch rockets and 6,000 pounds of bombs the Thunderstreak was designed as a fighter-bomber capable of attacking ground targets and intercepting high-altitude Soviet Bombers. The first production F-84F flew on November 22, 1952. Almost immediately, control and stability problems surfaced. The first production runs were equipped with conventional stabilizer-elevator tail-planes, which caused an accelerated stall pitch-up problem and degraded maneuverability at combat speeds. By May of 1954, the introduction of a hydraulically powered one-piece stabilizer and side-mounted spoilers improved performance and corrected the high-speed control problems.
Notable as one of the first aircraft to be utilized by the USAF Thunderbirds Flight Demonstration Team the F-84F only saw limited usage (mostly by NATO Allies) in its intended combat role. Throughout its service life, maintenance difficulties from control-rod corrosion to a disturbing tendency for the J65 engine to flameout when flying through heavy snow or rainstorms continued to plague the aircraft. Replaced by the F-4 Phantom in 1964, the remaining F-84F's were re-assigned to Air National Guard units until their complete withdrawal from service in 1971.
Operationally, the F-84F made its most significant contribution to history when two West German Air Force F-84F's wandered into communist controlled East German airspace in September 1961, one month after the construction of the Berlin Wall. A quick-thinking USAF Radar Controller at Berlin's Tempelhof Airport ordered the F-84F's to divert directly to West Berlin allowing the Thunderstreaks to evade pursuing Soviet MiG Fighters thereby avoiding an armed confrontation.
The museum's F-84F, s/n 51-9432 was manufactured by General Motors, Kansas City, Kansas and delivered to the USAF on October 25, 1954. Restored by museum volunteers, our F-84F wears the livery of a Wing Commander from its first active duty assignment with the 12th Strategic Fighter Wing, Strategic Air Command, Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas. This aircraft is on loan from the NMUSAF
My prelim mod of HG 1/144 Wing Zero Custom Clear Parts with Saber Lily. May have to paint the wings at some point.
I decided to document my modification of the Polaroid SX-70 Sonar camera that Bela gave me for Christmas. This image shows my set-up for working on the changes described here.
Popping the ring and the original filter off was easier than I expected, and getting the new one to stay in with the ring in place was much harder.
Now I'm going to attempt some trial photos outside during the day and hope that I don't need to do any more changes.
Update: I've since replaced the jewel-case plastic with a thinner, but still strong, piece from a clear plastic report cover. It's similar to overhead transparency but a little thicker, and it fits much better than the jewel-case plastic.
by giving a hinge and the slopey window piece, and moving the piece that was there in the set inside a stud, you have a working boot, and the suitcase fits in there, not slipping around, almost as if it was made for this mod.
If you can find a P10 pipette tip, it is an easy mod to retro fit a 120 spool into the 616 reel space (used scissors to cut off long skinny end)

After a little quality time with the dremel tool, the part of the pot that engaged the output gear is gone.
A modification to allow the bagman to be fitted to non brooks saddles without spending the additional £26 they ask for a QR clamp

I opened the eyes. They were totally closed, so it was difficult to open them since it's a small head and I didn't want to open them too much.
The mouth is also mchanged a bit. I made the mouth a bit wider by changing the corners of the mouth. The lips are also sanded.

This boy face needs to become a girl.
I am sanding off parts of the heavy eyebrows, and the nose is already a bit tinier. I am not done yet, I need to get it balanced more. Also the eyes are opened, but need to be a bit more opened first.
Still a lot to work on
I did not want the wide rudder trailing edge. I cut along the trailing edge, carved out some foam and glued it back together to form a normal rudder
Here's how I got my Photojojo lenses to stick to my iPhone 4.
1. Bought a Griffin Reveal case to stick the magnet ring to, since it won't stick to the iPhone glass. It has a small enough hole that the magnet won't fall in. The ring centers nicely at the corner of the case.
2. Used wire cutters to chop a segment out of the ring so I can still use my favorite flashlight app. (I rarely use the flash with the camera.)
3. Used needle nose pliers to bend the jagged ends downward into the case so they won't snag on things.
