This is the age of propaganda which is basic tool utilized by our dear comrades to mislead the JNU student ommunity thinking that majority of student are on the other side of the digital divide. The pamphlet dated 24.10.07 of the SFI exposes their attitude to mislead the JNU students. The so called progressive left organization in the campus have propagated their achievements like minimum wage struggle, financial assistance struggle, fought against US, providing hostel and improving the condition of hostel. A simple question to my SFI friends is, "what is the result at the end ofday?" The migrant laborer lose .
their job due to your barbaric act of gheraoing register of the campus, the financial assistance delayed with same amount given by UGC and also having nexus with administration keeping the vacant rooms intact and creating obligation to the second room mate and third room mate for vote bank politics. This is the struggle done by dear comrades in our campus for the student community. .
Dear SFI comrades, we warn you not to misguide the JNU students against YFE on the CSIR-UGC (NET) fellowship .
issue. YFE has worked very honestly and sincerely on this issue whether the restoration of NET-JRF seats or the enhancement of fellowship amount. YFE is the only organization which demonstrated in front of CSIR and DST with .
large number of students.YFE got success in both the issues. YFE does not publish anything without any evidence (please see on the back side of the pa mphlet). We are not like SFI comrades who do nothing but tell white lies in their pamphlets to misguide the JNU students. .
Dear comrades, do something good for students. Think about equality in fellowship amount. Why are you silent on the issue of discrimination of fellowship amounts of UGC and RGF? If you think of equality, come and support the issue raised by YFE to equalize all the UGC and RGF fellowships. If you do not think about equality you can not be honest JNUSU representatives. .
Dear friends, Leftist in this campus is for nothing of students care but as agents ofpolitical mafias to misguide the students in negative directions. .
Note: DST and MHRD are the central agencies which plan the policies for the UGC, CSIR, DBT, ICMR and many other R&D funding agencies. DST already has published the office order to all agencies for increasing the fellowships. In response to this order, DBT has already enhanced the fellowship (sec the proof on the back side of pamphlet). The office order from CSIR and other agencies is about to come. .
We congratulate all JNU students for their support in our sh·uggle for full fledged bank facility in our campus. SBI ext branch has started the draft issuing. Till November end, it will be impr·oved very much. .

JNU DRAMA FESTIVAL 2008 .

12lh Aug, 2008 Friends. NSUI would like to invile the attention of student community towards the annual drama festival that is going on in the theatre of Ad. Block. Scripted by a vicious and malicious plOl and enacted by the impuissant juvenile comrades of AISA and SFI who are fighting with .
their heart and soul to gain the best drama award of 2008. However this year's edition of the August drama is just a continuation of the .

NSUI Struggle for campus democracy!! 05.02.10 .
.
The inheritors of thistoric blunders', the children of the legitimate left, have started yet another vicious can1paign in order to restore JNUSU through democratic means. Ironically the same SFI which is demanding fresh elections in this campus for the past three years were offering their unconditional support to the anti student AISA led JNUSU. Their activists' rather lousy rhetoric mongers are hovering around the crunpus spitting lies against NSUI and the Indian National Congress. Apparently the legitimate and the illegitimate left has joined together to misguide the student community by offering them an unclear picture on the issue. We strongly condenm such immature and irresponsible ways of these commies to sabotage the JNUSU elections and their motive to gain cheap political benefits from such a ploy. .
THE l\1YTH AND REALITY OF LYNGDOH: NSUI WAS ALWAYS AGAINST LYNGDOH .
An extremely venomous and malicious fabrication has been deployed against NSUI sine~ Supreme Court issued a stay on JNUSU elections in 2007. The machinery which acted behind such· a devious ploy to n1align the largest student organization of this country came from none other than the left fraternity of this campus: both legitimate and illegitimate. The verbal manipulation rather accusations of the little Stalinists varied from the induction of the Lyngdoh Committee by the UPA government, NSUI's open supp011 to Lyngdoh recon1mendations, Congress government's move to curtail student politics in this country, etc. This rotten sinister deal to frame NSUI and Congress on the \vrong side was a del ibcrate act to unden11ine the truth. The deal to save the real culprits behind all this and to conceal their barbarous and inhmnan politics of violence practiced in Kerala and 'Nest Bengal in the name of student politics. .
Those who perpetrate such rumors should read the opening page of the report of the committee which says that 'final copy of the report of the Committee constituted by the Ministry of HRD. Go\ernment of India a per the direction of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India'. No\vhere in there campaigns this fact is mentioned. Furthen11ore the reason behind the constitution or such a committee was the outcome of the heinous and brutal political murders of several KSU and ABVP activists in Kerala by the so called democratic SFI acti\ ists. Interestingly it was SFI's national president KK Ragesh, the first student organization leader. to open)) welcome Lyngdoh recommendations. Meanwhile NSUI \Vas the first student organization to fight Lyngdoh guidelines legally in a court battle \\hen the other pseudo rc' olutionaries of this campus were sleeping. It was NSUI's Anand Pandey who for the first time publi hed a book on the consequences of Lyngdoh in student politics. .
A lot has been said about the JNU model which vvas highly acclaimed in Lyngdoh Committee recon1mendations. But was our JNUSU led by SFI and AISA were able to articulate about the unique nature of our elections when the committee called for a sitting in Delhi. The answer is a big and blatant NO. They were too busy with their 'dialectical materiaJisJn· and revolutionary pretensions that none of the office bearers found time to convey our much acclaimed model in front of the committee. Page 16 section 4.3 of the Lyngdoh Committee which delineates about the Summary of the Proceedings of Regional Meeting held in New Del hi from March 6-7. 2006 asserts how important this sitting was for the JNuSU at that time. The sitting held at NIEPA was attended by Delhi Unin~rsit). Guru Gobind Singh .
lndrnprashta Uni,·ersity, and Rajasthan and Meerut Universities. The present accusations are thus directed .
towards NSUI to hide AlSA and SFI 's inadequacy and inefficiency to address such a pertinent issue. .
NSllJ once again reiterates its commitment to fight against the anti student, apolitical recommendations of .
this committee and asserts that we are totally committed to resist against such interventions. .
\\'HY THIS .JNU U SHOULD GO? .
Friends, since last UGBlVf held in August 2009~ NSUJ has strong!) demanded for .
elections in this campus, but at that time SFI totally undermined such a demand and offered their .
unconditional support to AISA led JNUSU. Since the extended JNUSU hns come to power SFf has acted .
onl) as a stooge by offering unsolicited support to JNUSU and sidelining student's issue in this crunpus. .

tyrn~ hidden_ I EDs to their dead bodies is yet another ploy to misguide the pol1ce and inv1te them to the scene .
of cnme for rnquest, leading to more explosions and more casualties. .
Many seized documents have clearly shown that the birth of 'Salwa Judums' (meaning peace march) in .
June 2005 in South Bastar infuriated the Naxalites. The villagers were forced lo flee due to continuous attacks .
and escalating fear. The state government, realising its constitutional obligations, promptly responded and .
created rellabilitation camps to provide people with basic amenities. Though Salwa Judum came up as a self-.
motivated people's movement in a response to the Naxalite atrocities, it was soon dubbed as a state-sponsored .
move. This is a well thought out propaganda by the Naxalites to malign the government. Quite a few times the .
Naxalites have dared to attack even the rehabilitation camps. Though most of such attacks have been foiled by .
the police force, yet an attack on Errabore Rehabilitation c_amp (situated on the national highway), left more .
than 30 killed and many injured. The fact is that the Naxal1tes were shaken by the increasing strength of the .
Salwa Judum and its commitment to re-establish peace in the area. The spurt of violence is due to the .
retaliation by the Naxalites in the face of the rising popularity of Salwa Judum, which led them to intimidate .
people so that they do not ever raise their heads. .
Presently, there are about 3,000 SPOs, wl1o assist security forces in the maintenance of order in Naxal-infested areas. These SPOs have played an important role in breaking and weaken1ng the network of the Naxalites. Naxalites' brutality has not even spared the families of the SPOs. Many SPOs have been killed, only to discourage them from associating with the police. Since 2002, scores of policemen and civilians have been .
-.
killed by the naxalites, and the number of such brutal killings is drastically increased in recent years. This .
further strengthens the fact that the Maoists were afraid of the people's resistance groups which had rejected tl1eir ideology in their own stronghold. The attacks o n schools, panchayats, hospitals, rehabilitation camps and ashram buildings hav e unravelled their hollow talk of development. They are even opposed to developmental works. Schemes like 'Jantana Sarkaar' are being propagated only to hide their ugly face, smeared with cold blood. A country which was built on the edifice of non-violence cannot accept the ideology of armed struggle for class annihilation. Such mindless brutal killings by the Maoists must act as a wake-up call for civil society. .
Why the government has failed to effectively curb the Naxai-Maoist menace is a question which remains difficult to answer. The left leaning intelligentsia has often sought to explain it in the neglect of rural area and lack of developmental initiatives among the poor who being left unto themselves have ch osen to take the path of 'armed revolution'. But how far Naxai-Maoists are responsible for disallowing the implementation of government's development plans in their stronghold needs to be honestly assessed. If the cause is poverty and lack of developmental initiatives then the Naxai-Maoists should have been strengthening these efforts instead of blocking them. But the case is different on the ground. In addition to these leftist outfits who claim to oppose parliamentary democracy are seen to be garnering votes for the candidate/parties who prefer to pay them in elections. There is undoubtedly a politician-Naxai/ Maoist nexus operating in these areas allowing these elements to strengthen and prosper. Perhaps, the lack of political will in tackling the menace is the result of such nexus in operation seriously undermining the safety and security of the country. While the brutal violence by Naxai-Maoist outfits has started to expose communism and its dangerous ideology, the government should decisive ly act to defeat and destroy this menace before it is too late. .
Previously the Central Government took the decision of banning the terrorist organisation like CPI (Maoist). We d e mand the Central Government to ban the whole bunch of communists' giroh from India for their indulging in Terrorism, Lumpenism, Barbarism and other Anti-National activities. The Anti-National acts of the communist's students' wing are not new to the university campuses. It is highly dangerous to note that following the Pan-Indian ban on CPI (Maoist) by the Central Government, the JNU administration has not acted in reporting to Police the subversive and anti-national activities of its students wing DSU as well the other Naxal Group like AISA. ABVP once again demand that AISA and DSU office bearers' should be immediately arrested and booked under the provisions of UAPA for openly and shamelessly supporting these heinous acts. The administration should immediately stop the activities of AISA and DSU by seizing its literature, propaganda materials, its account and office. ABVP appeals the peace loving and progressive students of JNU to rally behind ABVP to pressurize the JNU administration to impose ban on AISA, DSU and other communist terrorist outfits resent in our cam us. .

WHY BAHUJAN STUDENTS' MOVEMENT'! .
It is a historical and yet a bitt~r reality that the manuvadis (so-called .
upp~rcastes) who constitutejust 15% population of the Country. have monopolized all the resources like trade. ~vcalth. commerce. land. jobs in Pvt. & Govt. sector and denied fundamental rights ofeducation, p-roperty. vocation & 0 lire of dignity & self-respect to the people belonging to Bahujan Snmaj. Nevertheless, our great Bahujan ancestors. stat1ing. from Mahatma Jotiba Phulc, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Periyar Ramaswami, Naravana Gu1·u and Babasaheb Ambedkar, through their exemplar: struggles. ga\ e a death-blov. to the rnanuvadi social order. Not onl) this. the) also set the path ofself-help & self-respect for the Bahujans to tread on. Our ancestors \\arned us about th~: cunning & treacherous mindsets of the manuvadi organization~ like Congress (NSUI). BJP (ABVP). Leftists AISA. Al51-. PSU. DSU etc. etc.). The) also e'hotted the Bahujan Samaj to form their 0\\ 11 organizations/parties toeffecti\ely .
challenge and uproot the manuvadi organimtions at all levels. .
It's a well known fact that such manuvadi srudt!nts' organizations, in nexus with manuvadi administration and authorities. have been regularly misguiding Bahujan Students and creating confusion and conflicts among them for last several decades in all the educational institutions in the country. JNU is one ofthe finest examples ofsuch manuvadi game plan. In su~h an environment. Bahujan students feel insecure. help less and discriminated against, without any voice of their own in such a hostile environment in their acadeniic life. These manuvadi students· organizations also "use·· soml.! SC/ST/OBC/RM students. by making them clwmchas and using them against their own community. .
For the past few years. there has been a growing feeling amongst the Sllldents belonging to the SC/ST/OBC & RM communities in JNU that the manuvadi students· organizations have been fooling them for a long time and the interests and concerns of the students belonging to these communities are not being addressed to. Not just that, all the manuvadi students· oroanizations .
0 .
have covert understanding & "internal unity'' when it comes to the interests of Bahujan Students, whether it pertains to reservation, appointment at faculty positions. scholarships or incidents of atrocities/discrimination against the students belonging to the Bahujan Samaj. It is being strongly felt that time has come to provide an effective a.nd strone; alternative to the manuvadi brand of students politics, so that the interests of the Bahujan stltdents can be safeguarded. .
Keeping t_his _in mind. the ALL IN DIA BAHU.JAN STU DENTS CAMPAI(,N FOR RESERVATION (AIBSCFR) & CONSTITUTION DAY CELEBRATION COMMITTEE (CDCC) have d,..:.;ded to honour the e~rnest desire and will of the Bahujan Students of JNU by fielding it's .
candtclates for JNUSU Election 2006-07 under the banner of: .
Jl4lJtLJ~N SJUDENTS' FRONT .
(B S F) .
.
WHY CONTESTING ELECTION BY BAHU.JAN STUDENTS' FRONT IS IMPORTANT? .
<)em inars. pub I ication of pamph lets & protest demonstrations can. at the most. point tO\\ards the problems and propose a solution but for sohing the problems one has to go for direct action. Creating awareness is the fundamental responsihilit} ofany organization but to implement those proposals or ideas. the organi~ation must invoh e itself into the mechanism or the S) stem that caters to the effective impkmentaiion of those ideas. We ha\ e been receiving constant suggestions from rhe Bahujan Students' fraternity ofJNU to undertake this task oftaking on the manuvadi students· organization ofJNU by horn and to expose their dubiou~ games of repeatedly confusing and cheating the Bahujans with their "glib talks and glorious inactivity" on all fronts. .
There are historical and contemporary reasons to contest election this year. The year 2006 is of the Golden Jubilee (501h) Year of the socio-religious revolution originated by the champion of the Oppressed Communities and the builder of Modern Democratic India. The Name of the Wind
"The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss & its sequel "Wise Man's Fear" are fantastic adventures. They are both the best books I've read recently.
The Kingkiller chronicle (Book 3 is not out yet) by Patrick Rothfuss are the most remarkable books I've read recently. I was absolutely enamored reading these books, reading through the first one fanatically & listening to the second book like a monk in a sermon.
These books are very well written; the characters are all enjoyable to read, the events interesting & exciting, & the tempo is well balanced to keep you excited. The series is written in a unusual perspective where the main character, past his prime, is telling the story for another to write down. It results in a fantastical story & great insight of character. I won't do a full review here, that may come another time, however, my general rating for the "The Name of the Wind" is 9/10 & "Wise Man's Fear" at 8/10. The books are over displays of glamor, where the main character is unrealistically perfect but the balance of excitement with trepid story results in a grand adventure.
My only major complaint is the main love interest. She annoys me greatly, and the main character is enamored with her purely out of adolescent misguidance. She continually is ungrateful & lives her life in a horrid way that distracts the main character.

Various problems are being faced by the student community of JNU due to the insensitive and anti-people policies followed by the Delhi Government with regards to transport facilities for Delhi residents. Buses under tha DTC have been drastically reduced :md most buses under the kilometer scheme (bus pass valid) have been transferred to the State Transport Authority (no validity for student bus passes). Further, the tug of war between the BJP-Ied government at the centre and the state government over the CNG problem has put the public transport system into serious jeopardy. Over the years, over 900 U-specials for Delhi University have got reduced to only about 40. Apart from raising students' grievances in the Apex Body Meetings of the DTC, a JNUSU delegation submitted a memorandum to the Chairman, DTC on 31.5.02. Since then the Office Bearers and councilors have been pursuing our demands at various levels and the following matters have been achieved so far : .

The JNUSU shall continue to pursue our charter of demands. .
However, surprisingly a student organisation, whose parent party is running the Delhi Government and is responsible for most of these problems, has started a signature campaign among the student community of JNU on the same issues. The signature campaign is addressed to the Transport Minister of Delhi who is the former DUSU President from the same organisation . Such gimmicks right before the JNUSU elections show the manner in which this organisation is trying to misguide the student community. .
We would advise this particular organisation to convince their party colleague in the Delhi government to accept the demands raised by the JNUSU rather than taking the students of JNU for a iide. .

This is the age of propaganda which is basic tool utilized by our dear comrades to mislead the JNU student community thinking that majority of student are on the other side of the digital divide. The pamphlet dated 24.10.07 of the SFI exposes their attitude to mislead the JNU students. The so called progressive left organization in the campus have propagated their achievements like minimum wage struggle, financial assistance struggle, fought against US, providing hostel and improving the condition ofhostel. A simple question to my SFI friends is, "what is the result at the end ofday?" The migrant laborer lose their job due to your barbaric act ofgheraoing register ofthe campus, the financial assistance delayed with same amount given by UGC and also having nexus with administration keeping the vacant rooms intact and creating obligation to the second room mate and third room mate for vote bank politics. This is the struggle done by dear comrades in our campus for the .
student community. .
Dear SFI comrades, we warn you not to misguide the JNU students against YFE on the CSIR-UGC (NET) fellowship issue. YFE has worked very honestly and sincerely on this issue whether the restoration of NET-JRF seats or the enhancement of fellowship amount. YFE is the only organization which demonstrated in front of CSffi and DST 'vitb large number of students.YFE got success in both the issues. YFE does not publish anything without any evidence (please see on the back side of the pamphlet). We are not like SFI comrades who do nothing but tell white lies in their pamphlets to misguide the JNU students. .
Dear comrades, do something good for students. Think about equality in fellowship amount. Why are you silent on the issue .
of discrimination of fellowship amounts of UGC and RGF? If you think of equality, com·e and support the issue raised by about equality you can not be honest JNUSU.

Dear friends, Leftist in this campus is for nothing of students care but as agents of political mafias to misguide the students in negative directions. .
Note: DST and MHRD are the central agencies which plan the policies for the UGC, CSIR, DBT, ICMR and many other R&D funding agencies. DST already has published the "office order to all agencies for increasing the fellowships. In response to this order, DBT bas already enhanced the fellowship (sec the proof on the back side of pamphlet). The office order from CSIR and other agencies is about to come. .
We congratulate all JNU students for their support in our struggle for full fledged bani< facility in our campus. SBI ext branch bas started the draft issuing. Till November end, it will be improved very much. .

On the contrary, the same criminal administrators are trying to crush the peaceful movement of the people with lathis, water cannons and other terror tactics. Peoples representatives sitting on indefinite hunger strike to press their demands are being put behind the bars. We are witness to a re-enactment of the Arwal massacre while the criminal of Arwal fame, S.P. Kaswan shamelessly sticks to his position. No police action has been initiated against the Ranvir Sena while all the parties of the ruling classes are trying to save the Ranvir Sena even as they are laying the blame at our doors through all sorts of absurd logic and false propaganda. .
Some of our so-called left friends have adopted a non-committal position. They fail to distinguish between the poor landless peasants and the feudal-Kulaks, they do not want to see the distinction between the dalits and minorities and the forces of Savarna caste-hegemony. Neither do they want to open their eyes to the communal hatred underlying the brutal and heinous character of the carnage, nor do they feel the urge to take to the streets even after seeing the cruel killing of new born babies and innocent women. Instead, they have been harping on the same note as the administration and are trying to misguide progressive opinion through false propaganda. In such a situation, it is necessary for us to acquaint you with the ground reality which has been little reported by the press. .
Killer Ranvir Sena and the Unholy Political Nexus .
The Ranvir Sena was formed two years back with the declared objective of protecting the crumbling edifice of feudalism from the fury of the revolutionary movement of poor peasants of Bhojpur. They challenged with all their might: "We will not allow Bhojpur to be turned into Russia or China; with our guns we will remove all signs of red flag not only from Bhojpur but from the entire country, we will re-establish the social system of our ancestors and revive the old customs and laws". From the day of its birth this Sena has put to death nearly one hundred innocent people in the Sahar and Sandesh blocks of Bhojpur alone, majority of whom are children, women, old and disabled people from the dalit, most backward and Muslim communities. Hand grenades were hurled at members of our Party sitting on dharna to demand administrative action against Ranvir Sena in Ara town. Similarly, grenade attack was made on a contingent of ML rallyists going for the March 11, Delhi Rally. Hundreds of people would have been killed if the grenade had exploded. In the beginning, the leadership of the Sena was with the Congress, later they switched over to BJP, and with this, the minority community became their specific target. The BJP leaders made hasty tours to their strongholds, and conducted several meetings after which the Ranvir Sena issued a written Fatwa declaring support to the BJP. Copy of this Fatwa was placed in the Vidhan Sabha by the JD Govt. After the BJP-Samata tie-up showed its strong presence in Lok Sabha elections, all over Bihar the dominant upper castes and the feudal-kulak forces got a new lease of life and became extremely violent. Instead of countering these forces in a straight battle, the impotent leadership of Janata Dal went on appeasing them. Especially in Bhojpur district where the dalits and most backward sections are totally with CPI(ML) and where the Janata Dal openly sides with the feudal landlords in order to stop the CPI(ML) from growing, you will see Laloo Yadav openly sharing stage with criminal landlords. You will see the likes of JD MP and central minister Mr.Chandra Deo Verma demanding lifting of the ban order on Ranvir Sena while several leaders of the same party can be openly seen toasting with the criminal leaders of Ranvir Sena. .

The studies by Monsanto-Mahyco, the owner company, show most tests have been conducted on acute toxicity, a lethal dose of 50 or more a dose at which there would be mortality of 50 per cent or more. The company has also done studies on allergic reactions and skin irritation. On the other hand, studies on sub-chronic toxicity are few 90 days on rats, rabbits and goats. The question that emerges is: Are the studies good enough to understand the long-term impact of ingesting Bt brinjal? The company says yes, maintaining 90 rat days are roughly equivalent to 20-21 human years. Opposing scientists say no, the chronic impacts need a different protocol of study. .
Furthermore, there is still the open issue of how the Cry1Ac toxin breaks down in food and in our bodies. The company says it has data to show the protein breaks down in cooked food and in our digestive system, but admits it remains active in an alkaline medium. The opposing view is that brinjal is often eaten raw and that even our digestive system is mildly alkaline. The jury, as I said, is still out. .
Another big issue is whether you and I, who are going to eat this vegetable, can trust the research that has largely been conducted by the company that stands to gain the most if the go-ahead is given. Currently, all research is funded by companies and then presented to regulators for clearance. This leads to an enormous lack of credibility people do not believe what the companies say has been done. And, given the horrific and scandalous track record of private research misguiding policy in the case of drugs or food, why should this be surprising? It is clear we need a new system: Research must be publicly funded and openly scrutinised. The money must come from companies, but in the form of a cess collected into a fund. Without that, even good research will be tainted by bad public faith. .
My third reason for rejecting Bt brinjal is more basic and fundamental. In fact, I want the right to decide if I want to eat Bt brinjal or not. But India has no labelling system to distinguish the GM-hybrid from its lowly, ordinary cousin. You and I will have no choice. Furthermore, it is virtually impossible to set up a labelling system for a vegetable in a country of the size of India, where tests would have to be done on the farms of GM and non-GM crop growers. .
Labelling also demands the country must have a laboratory network and a functioning regulatory system, so that GM content can be analysed and conveyed to consumers. This is far from the set-up that we have in the country. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), for instance, tried to get edible oil checked for GM traces but was turned away by most laboratories in India: they could not carry out the tests or had limited facilities; the tests were prohibitively expensive or not possible. Bt brinjal, therefore, causes the similar problem of wanting modern technology without modern facilities to ensure safety and regulation the same deadly combination. .
Over and above this, there are concerns about what this foreign introduction will do to the biodiversity of brinjal India is the centre of origin of this vegetable, with as many as 2,500 varieties grown here. While the companys scientists say Bt brinjal will not contaminate other varieties, research also shows that cross-pollination is definitely possible. Can we risk losing these staples long, short, round or twisted from our table? .
To me, the outcome is clear: Bt brinjal is not worth the risk and the uncertainty that it causes. This is not a verdict on GM crops. It is a demand for a choice: To eat or not to eat. The ministers decision must be supported. .
Moratorium on Bt brinjal: Jairam Ramesh .
States should safeguard against illegal entry of Bt seeds, says environment minister .
By SAVVY SOUMYA MISRA .
On February 9, minister of state for environment Jairam Ramesh announced an indefinite moratorium on introducing Bt brinjalthe first genetically modified crop for mass production in India. In doing so, he overruled the Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) that had approved commercial cultivation of the food crop on October 14, 2009. .
The moratorium is applicable till the time independent scientific studies establish the safety of the product and its long term impact on human health and environment to the satisfaction of the public and the scientist community, the minister said. He pointed out there was no consensus among scientists on .

Who is Communal in Persian Centre ? The real Face of ABVP .
There are tens and hundreds of students of different religions studying in the Centre of Persian & Central Asian Studies, School of Language Literature & Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University and all enjoy equal rights and treatment in the "Centre. Alf the faculty members of the Centre treat them as their students and there has never been any discrimination against the students. Seven students, Awinash Kumar, Nikhil Kumar Varma, Suresh Meena, Ashutosh .
Gupta,Rahul Kumar and Rohit Panvar , repeating a course of Monsoon Semester 2009 of BA Final Third Year in the Centre have suddenly st arted dubbing the Centre and particularly their Course Teacher Dr.Syed Akhtar Husain as communal ,etc. ltreminds us of the story of the Fox and the Grapes who started calling it sour when it could not get .
grapes. .
The above studentswere enrolled in the year 2007. Since then they were students of the Centre and had attended the issue of Communalism and Casteism allegedly.
classes of Dr.Syed Akhtar Husain. At that time they never raised the ing the course PC 303 p with the.
practiced by the teacher/s in the Centre. Even in the year 2009 when they were study.
t eacher, they did not utter a single word against him or about the Centre. .
These students appeared in December 2009 and they failed in the course of Dr.Syed Akhtar Husain. They applied for re-evaluation and two faculty members other than Dr.Syed Akhtar Husain as per the university rules did the re-evaluation. .
Again these students failed. They registered themselves with Centre in July 2010 to repeat the course in the current Monsoon Semester 2010.1n the present semester, only FIVE out of them appeared for the First Sessional Test which was held on 15th September 2010.Again these students failed in the Sessional Test and One (Rohit Panvar) was held cheating in the Test. They have always been irregular and non serious in the classes, five out of seven are doing jobs out side the university and t hey just try to appear for exam and pressurize the teachers to pass them. .
They have not appeared in the II , Ill Sessionals in this Semester due to lack of preparations. The Centre specially .
arranged II Sessional for them on 22 Oct 2010 but they did not appear again. Again on the request of School Level Grievance Committee, Centre offered them another chanr.e and on 16th November 2010, Notice was issued by Centre for II and Ill Sessional Tests scheduled on 19th and 22"d of November SPECIALLY FOR THEM but again they refused to appear on the pretext of lack of preparation. This shows their non seriousness and lack of interest in studies, sessionals and exams. They are not interested in exams and doing politics for over a month seekingguidance from Prof. Akhtar .
Mahdi of Persian Centre and Prof. Varyam Singh of Russian Centre. .
The reality is that Prof. Mahdi and Prof. Varyam Singh have mislead them and stopped them from appearing in .

Centre kee Nainsafin dated 23th November 2010 was written by Prof. Varyam Singh in his chaste Hindi. We strongly condemnthe involvement of Prof. Varyam Singh in the whole issue and his communal approach towards Persian Centre. Prof. Varyam is known for his personal grudge against most of the faculty members of the Centre. .
If these students have academic guts, they should take the two sessional tests and current End Semester Examination and prove their worth INSTEAD of CALLING THE CENTRE AND THE TEACHER AS COMMUNAL AND BIASED. The same .
teacher has taught their 5 classmates as w ell, who happened to be Hindu and cleared their courses on merit ! Was Dr. Syed Akhtar Husain communal and oppressive to them? There are many Hindu students studying in almost every class of Persian from BA up to M.Phii/Ph.D. They are academic~lly motivated and have never felt any discrimination. On the other hand Dr. Syed Akhtar Husain always encourages students to study Persian and goes to any length in helping us to .

We t he students of Persian Centre condemn it in st rong words and urge the JNU authority , t eaching and Student .
fraternity to look in to the matter and not to allow any body to malign the reputation of the Centre on caste, creed and colour. We also request Prof. Varyam Singh and Prof. Akhtar Mahdi not to misguide the students and play with their .

Various problams are being faced by the student community of JNU due to the insensitive and anti-people policies followed by the Delhi Government with regards to transport facilities for Delhi residents. Apart from raising students' grievances in the Apex Body Meetings of the DTC, a JNUSU delegation submitted a memorandum to the Chairman, DTC on 31 .5.02. Since then the Office Bearers and councilors have been pursuing our demands at .
variou& levels and the following matters have been achieved so far : .

The JNUSU shall continue to pursue our charter of demands. .
However, surprisingly a student organisation, whose parent party is running the Delhi Government and is responsible for most of these problems, has started a signature campaign among the student community of JNU on the same issues. The signature campaign is addressed to the Transport Minister of Delhi who is the former DUSU President from the same organisation. Such gimmicks right before the JNUSU elections show the manner in which this organisation is trying to misguide the student community. .
We would advise this particular organisation to convince their party colleague in the Delhi government to accept the demands raised by the JNUSU rather than taking the students of JNU for a iide. .

Psephological calculations and group equations in a continuous manner in order to secure votes and t~is has been .

a common feature since the day of their inception. The past two elections have also seen a marked shift from an .
ideological to a more 'practical' approach towards elections whereby long drawn struggles based on genuine .
concerns are avoided and group emotions based on utopia are being stoked. .
The current union is adept at gathering votes through conniving and creating the image of a vote bank in the .

called 'achievements' whose genuineness can be easily questioned. The half-hearted (yearly) ritualistic drama of .
sit-ins and hunger strikes that began with the academic year failed to achieve anything concrete which led these .
parties claim what NSUI has already achieved as their achievement! A regressive phase of student politics has .
been initiated by these so called forward looking' backward parties, whereby the students are made to suffer to .
satiate the vested political interest of the leaders of these parties. The entire drama of the struggle for MCM and .
for the hostels (the solution to these problems were already achieved by NSUI and pamphlets brought oot post .
these achievements) were mainly intended to fool and misguide the students so that their anger and frus_tration .
.
could be exploited in the election. It is a well known fact that after the elections these·parties would go-into .
hibernation. This hibernation period. would last till·thc next election. Post the current election the·se parties would .
continue with their status quoist a~ama of hunger strikes and sit-ins and would fake the gen~Jine concerns of the .
students by creating just hue and cry and achieving zero resu·Jt. These exten1al portr(!yal of intellectual capabilities .

of the left parties need to be questioned in the upcoming elections. How is it that such 'morally correcC and 'highly intellectual' par1ies shamelessly misguide students by their fake protests and zero achievements? What has this union achieved? The 3000 figure for MCM has been forgotten and made into a utopian dream and similarly the struggle for hostels have been postponed (read indefinitely) till elections! Even on the issue of gender the· union has failed to reach out. to female students and address their problems.
