Similar pressures of free-market pricing based on demand and supply also take place in the headstone market. And while there are clear historical trends in size, material, and details included in the carved numbers and letters, the pace of fashions changing is relatively slow.
This photo from the bordering sidewalk along the Fair Plains (originally, Mt Pleasant) Cemetery in the northeast quadrant off Grand Rapids shows the preponderance of granite headstones, large and small. Each one represents a piece of quarry work, then finishing to size and left blank for the buyer to select lettering style and details to be added to the stone before delivering and installing it in its final resting place above the earthly remains of the dearly departed family member. While individual lives often include this buying experience and decision making, when viewed in the aggregate of all these lives expressed in the end in this cemetery, the scale of decades and lifetimes long and short is overwhelming. A veritable gallery of (mostly) granite is the outward, visible remainder of the many rituals and tears connected to the location and events leading up to internment.

Con la Adaptación de Jesucristo Superstar, sin duda uno de los grandes logros de los musicales, pretendemos Sentir y hacer Sentir. Creemos que en un momento donde la verdad hacia las cosas en general está tan entredicha, es bueno que nos pongamos a reflexionar como la fe en aquello que se cree, sea lo que sea, mueve montañas. Material and Narrative Explorations with Plotter Art
For this project, I wanted to explore different facets of plotter art, from human interactions with the plotter to generative comics, video processing and printmaking.
Coms't Thou is a generative comic book that utilizes web scraping, image processing and Markov chains to construct surreal narratives.
No Hace Mucho (Not So Long Ago) is a series of plots created through the processing of historical images of 19th century Colombia.
Liminal Spaces is a collection of images created through human interactions with plot drawings creating using reaction-diffusion. The plot drawings were used as a base to construct evocative illustrations that attempted to see "the drawing that exists behind the plot".
The Object (Comic) takes the same ideas Liminal Spaces utilized and translated them into a narrative comic format.
Un Violador En Tu Camino examines the material expansions of plotter art into printmaking in conjunction to the exploration of social movements and feminist history in Latin America.
