I was given this project while at Camberwell and in the midst of contemplating my Dreams project, so they virtually link together. I was given a list of words and was told I had to ‘create’ one, and so I chose the word ‘magic’. I wanted to explore the original context of what magic is, taking ideas from Greek myth. I created a concertina book with the Greek God Pan at the beginning playing his flute creating this magical world. Unfortunately, I was unable to include this image as it was difficult to show the front cover. I wanted to demonstrate the four elements Earth, Fire, Air and Water in each scene. Much of the ancient Greek’s thought and culture was based on the four elements and this understanding carried on into the Middle Ages and beyond. Drawn with ink pen on treated paper.
