The Optoelectronic Component and Materials Laboratories (or OCM Labs) is a collection of graduate students, post doctoral fellows, visiting scientists and research staff who are engaged in investigating an enormous variety of phenomena and devices related to electronic materials and optics. Some of the work involves the basic physics of new semiconductor and organic materials, some focuses on devices using these materials, and yet other work looks at the system impact of optical devices and structures. The unifying goal of our work is the realization of practical optoelectronic devices.

This was my first exercise for my Jewelry Projects class.
We had to make 20 pieces with recycled materials only. These was my results.

Made a great bargain: First two Fourth World Omnibuses (or is it Omnibis??) for 25 bucks. Thought they're "used" (or rather "read") but they came in, what i assume is, the factory protective plastic.
And i also got the first Fantastic Four trade collecting Jonathan Hickmans first story arc.

I decided to make a topiary out of tissue paper flowers (the same kind of flowers that Tami made in her gorgeous gift package on Tuesday. I recycled tissue paper (white, lt blue, dark blue), a wedding favor shot glass I received years ago, packing peanuts and disposable chopsticks from take-out. I used the Raindrop Background to stamp brown dots on the blue tissue paper, and stamped the DB Flourish in blue ink onto white tissue paper. One chopstick served as my stem and packing peanuts keeps it in place.
Sorry for the terrible picture, but it's almost 2am here so the lighting isn't that great, and I don't have any good way of photographing something this tall. :P Thanks for looking!

Scale model of the augmented massage table
Simple frame construction with 1/8in thick down tubes inset and welded into the framing. This made for a super strong and square result. The steel framing was leftovers from another project. The steering section: I used hime joints at each wheel to allow for any misalignments. The main sterring arm is solid and was milled. Tires are just $10 wheelbarrow tires from harbor freight. The top was drilled out with the intention of using the holes for accessory attachments like scuba tank racks ... The finish on the cart is a spray on harsh environment epoxy in light grey.
I needed to make a blocking device so that the X-V Selector Lever could not be moved. I wanted something in a T shape, but lacking anything around here that would fit in the space, I went with the next best thing.
The shape of this plastic can lid, with it's ridges to make it snap tight, was almost the perfect thing. And its circular shape meant it would somewhat match the contour of the shutter/lens assembly mount.
This project is part of the Fashion & Technology presents IN THE LAB exhibition at the University of Art and Design Linz. For her graduation collection, Melanie Nutz deals with fashion and sustainability. During her internship at palmer // harding in London, she developed an awareness of the global influence the fashion industry has on our environment. As a result, resource conservation is particularly important to her while making a collection. For MATERIAL MATTERS, she researched three novel material concepts and methods: “zero waste”, recycling and the upcycling of existing materials (with the latter breathing a second life into shredded shirts). Deconstruction and a hand weaving model make clothing more durable and future-proof.
