Maddie and Chris are testing out animations for an interactive in which museum visitors identify materials based on facts about them. Each material puck contains an RFID chip which allows the system to identify the material it contains. The platform under the puck responds with different animations depending on whether the visitor has placed the correct material puck on it. CORVALLIS, Ore. – The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), in partnership with the Benton Soil and Water Conservation District, hosted about 30 farmers, gardeners, and soil health enthusiasts during its Cover Crop Field Day, located at the NRCS Plant Materials Center in Corvallis, April 21, 2015. Participants got a first-hand look at more than 40 cover crop species and varieties, while discussing the benefits of using cover crops to enhance soil health. NRCS staff demonstrated cover crop termination equipment, including a new roller-crimper. The event also included training on collecting cover crop biomass samples and calculating nutrient credits. This is a photograph from the 6th annual running of the Meath Spring Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races and Fun Runs which were promoted and hosted by Bohermeen Athletic Club at Bohermeen, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 12th of March 2017 at 11:00. The half marathon consists of a 11KM and 10KM repeated loop around the roads of Bohermeen and Oristown. The 10KM race just completes the 2nd part of the half marathon. The finish line is on the running track within Bohermeen Community Center. The course is a fast fair course with a few small hills. Last year the course was 'reversed' which just meant that the traditional course changed to accomodate the large number of participants and the narrow country roads on which both the race participants and race traffic must both share before, during and after the race. Most runners agreed that this made the course much faster as a result. There was almost a total of 1,000 participants in both races.
The other great variable in road racing - the weather - was dry, clear but rather windy. At several parts of the course there was a stiff headwind which made these sections that bit more difficult. Temperatures were around a seasonal 10C for this time in March in Ireland.
Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful. Having now organised the event for six years running it is certain that the event will continue to grow and expand become one of the mainstays on the Irish athletic club road racing calendar for many years to come.
This race takes place about one month after the Bewley's 10 Mile Road Race in Trim (just down the road from Bohermeen). Indeed these races truly kick-start the whole road racing season of fixtures amongst the clubs in Meath who are now famous for the quality and standard of the road races staged and organised.
The race is supported by substantial local sponsorship from businesses in the local area. McNally Logistics and Transportation are the main sponsors of this year's event. The company specialises in national and international haulage.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. " I live in Cha Kwo Ling. I am getting older. I love being here. I have a lot
of friends, my neighbours look after me, we have shops and restaurants. My parents were born here so I came back to our home. It is very safe here, our doors are always open. Long time ago, we had fishermen, people working in the stone quarry, and later in the oil industry on the docks. All of this is gone now. We have a recycling centre, waste materials everywhere, trucks come and go all day long, it is a good business but some people are complaining about the noise and the dirt ; I don’t mind. I take the minibus everyday in and out. When there is heavy rain, some roofs are leaking. We have mosquitoes, rats running around at night, sometimes even snakes, but we are used to it. We love it here. I don’t have much hope for Cha Kwo ling, I live day by day, trying to live a happy life. We are proud of our beautiful temple and festivals that attract people from all around."

== Brief ==
SUGAR is delicious. And Hong Kong exemplifies our global society’s addiction to the sweet life. Life in Hong Kong is fast-paced, convenient, delicious and glittery. In Hong Kong, you will find people shopping in both luxury goods stores and fast fashion giants, dining in Michelin-starred restaurants, traveling via one of the best public transportation systems in the world and living in beautiful homes in the sky.
As with the gaping cavities that result from over-consumption of sugar, Hong Kong also suffers negative consequences of its sugar addiction. The pursuit of the good life has led society to wilfully turn a blind eye to the cost and consequence of its consumption. Hong Kong is paying the toll of its addiction. Overflowing landfills, polluted air and waterways, hungry children and homeless seniors are the untold parts of Hong Kong’s story. The city that hosts the highest density of millionaires is also the home of caged home dwellers.
The concentration of wealth and power have reached such extent that the whole city landscape manifests how decisions are taken: top down. Big scale investments shape the urban life. The way of financing, the use of resources and targeted clientele for the majority of projects are decided based on the expected revenue. The lack of responsible involvement and intervention is not only an emerging factor in architectural profession. Hong Kong young generation see themselves with little perspective due to unaffordable property prices and question the inequality in the city's population. The aesthetic of the city is for most “business-friendly”, which really is sterile, technocentric, vacant of any form of spontaneity and life.
How can city dwellers move away from pure consumption and reclaim an active advocacy? How can the future population of Hong Kong deal more responsibly with the offer of sugar? Can life come back in the constructed environment? How can we break away from sugar addiction and build together a sustainable city?

Material Animation is a kinetic light installation made from lasercut electro-luminescent (EL) foils which senses location, number and velocity of human occupants and responds through a mulitude of wirelessly networked components to encourage further interaction with the environment.
The experiment is situated in three rooms of an idle emergency bunker below ETH Zürich’s Science City campus. Each room reflects a different theme and approach to physically animate the distinctive material properties at an architectural scale. Electroluminescent foils are extremely thin, flexible and lightweight screens which emit a homogeneous cold light across their surface without the need for additional infrastructure.
The project was realized within 3 1/2 weeks by the 2010/11 MAS class at the chair for CAAD, ETH Zürich, supervised and tutored by Manuel Kretzer and Ruairi Glynn and supported through Lumitec AG and Ulano Corp.
It merges advanced techniques in parametric design, digital fabrication, physical computing, electronics and material science with theories and computational approaches to machine intelligence and sets them into a real world context.
