iGeoPix is an iPhone/iPad interactive visual browser for geolocated photos. Unlike the current georeferenced pictures representations used by Panoramio, Google map, Yahoo! map, etc., with iGeoPix you will be able to see both near (center focus) and far (periferic context) photos, thanks to a non-linear zooming user interface. The variable tile size, bigger in the center and smaller near the borders, will further contribute to give you the feeling of a more immersive visual browsing experience.

"Architextures" is a series of composite images. Each image is a mashup of multiple photographs. At least one of the sources is of an architectural subject, anything from closeup walls or windows to broad cityscapes. The added images provide texture or pattern. In some, the architectural forms are preserved and obvious. In others, the pictures become pure abstractions. Yet in all of them, the inherent geometry, angles, lines, and repetitions of the architecture are essential to the geometry and esthetics of the final image. Most of the source images used for this series are already posted in this photostream. The links to the original and source images are listed below.

The ”High Rise” sets are based on images of the Atlanta, Georgia skyline and its tall buildings. Source images and explanatory notes are elsewhere in this photostream.

We take a feed of Barry's current location from SMS to my phone; a human interface (me) takes this and converts it to an approximate grid reference, and then generates a marker with popup (by pushing in the push-pin with the pop-up sellotaped to it). The sellotape API is still relatively underdeveloped but we intend to investigate this key technology further.

Not a good shot, but I think this was a Muppet/Ghostbuster mashup

" Shyam Telecom, which operates in the state of Rajasthan, (...) has equipped a fleet of rickshaws with a mobile phone. Drivers pedal these mobile payphones throughout the state capital, Jaipur, and the surrounding countryside.

The rickshaw drivers, numbering around 200, are largely drawn from those at the margins of society - the disabled and women."

Passing out the nodes for the workshop - a great experience.

Kodachrome. Double-double exposure! With light painting!

I was asked, so here’s how the Mashup for “Jumped The Shark?” was put together.

While I love “Glee”, I think it may have gotten too big for it’s britches. Too much stunt casting and less than worthy themes were getting in the way of telling the story of some “not the most popular” kids in high school dealing with life in a fantasy/musical comedy setting. So how to I express this in a “Flickr Twitter,” i.e. sharing a thought through an image?

I wanted to show “Glee” getting eaten by a shark. I looked all over for a shark sketch of a shark swimming horizontally with its mouth open. I couldn’t find any, so I settled for the great poster art for Spielberg’s “Jaws.” The poster’s swimming woman was erased and I replaced the word “Jaws” with “Glee’s” title logo using the correct “Glee” font (which I had found months earlier for another photo).

I wanted the image to be framed with black funeral bunting to symbolize the death of a series (ok, I’m being a bit premature). This was the toughest search, but I finally found this strange photo that just reached out to me. Of course I had to get rid of the woman with the crazy hair and change the colour of the velvet drapes to black, keeping the tassel’s gold colour. I also kept the photos “frame.”

Oh, let’s not forget that I had to resize, stretch and otherwise tweak most of the final components (my shark wound up being a bit fatter than the poster). Ain’t Photoshop wonderful? I certainly am learning to scratch its surface.

This assignment, led by Brian Lucid at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, involves the design and production of a printed diagram that clearly and understandably conveys the organization and structure of a complex musical composition.

Photo Series 1681 - The Bentmen at ONCE Ballroom - Part 2

BENTMEN TO REUNITE IN FEBRUARY FOR FIRST FULL PERFORMANCE IN 11 YEARS

The Bentmen -- the legendary Boston ensemble known for apocalyptic live shows that unleash a sonic and visual mashup of tribal alt-rock and theatrical performance art -- reunite for their first full performance in 11 years at Somerville’s Once Ballroom on Feb. 9.

Co-founded by frontman William “Des” Desmond in 1984, the enigmatic group wreaked havoc across the local music scene into the ’90s and ’00s, playing venues from Chet’s Last Call to the Institute of Contemporary Art -- and leaving tens of thousands at the Mass-Cann Freedom Rally on Boston Common dazed and confused by the band’s provocative presentation.

Every Bentmen show is a one-of-a-kind event incorporating new stage designs, props and costuming, and the Once show will incorporate a broader group of alumni/guests. The band also plans a Bandcamp re-release of PATIENT ZERO -- which includes guitars from former band member Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie, The Cure) and guests Adrian Belew (King Crimson, Talking Heads) and David Tronzo (Lounge Lizards, Club d’Elf) -- to mark the recent 20th anniversary of that album, which includes such classics as “Swanee” and “Bloody Benders.”

The group last appeared onstage for a stripped-down 2014 set at the Brighton Music Hall, joining such other reuniting bands as the Flies, Men & Volts and Anastasia Screamed in one of several shows that celebrated college radio station WMBR’s Pipeline! At 25: 50 Years of Boston Rock.

Bentmen progeny Casey Desmond will open the Once show, sharing the stage with her parents for the first time. Casey has recorded with bassist Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson) and performed for 14 million viewers on the inaugural season of NBC's “The Voice.” Her newest project, CMB, explores the darker side of electronica with a wall of lush grooves and hypnotic vocals.

“Long before Blue Man Group, there was Bentmen!” -- The Boston Globe

“One of the most outrageous rock shows in the country!” -- The Village Voice

“Excellent musicianship… supremely weird stage show!” -- The Boston Herald

“Even I wouldn’t wear what those f***ers were wearing!” -- Steven Tyler

I don't remember how it happened but see the one in the middle? I spilled her beer. Actually I knoced it out of her hand. Had to buy her a new one.

I'll be honest when it's a little spill I look the other way but I couldn't not replace her drink. It was that bad. I'm a bit of a klutz. (Klutz is such a perfect word for what that is! It's almost an onomatopoeia, right?)
