Satsuki is the primary antagonist in the anime Kill la Kill. From the looks of things, I'm willing to bet that this is a mash-up of Satsuki's uniform with Star Wars' "Slave Leia" (a.k.a. the Hutt-killer costume).
This is the same cosplayer whom I photographed at AnimeUSA as Ryuko, the series protagonist (same Art Nouveau styled tattoo on the front of her left thigh).

Woo! It's here! Not only is my book now finally shipping, but I even received my copies from Wiley this weekend. I wasn't expecting these to turn up for ages yet.

Old school cut & paste (paper, scissors & glue) collage created for the blog with a weekly theme:
THE KOLLAGE KIT
THEME: DAYS
Sirius is nicknamed the "Dog Star" because it is a part of the constellation "Canis Major" which is Latin for "the greater dog." The expression "dog days" refers to the period from July through August, traditionally the very hottest days of the year. The Romans referred to this period as "dies caniculares" or "days of the dog star," which was eventually translated as just "dog days."
My collage was initially the children cut from a primer with their dogs juxtaposed on a painting of a summer day. It then evolved into this!
Although the bright star pictured is not Sirius (I have a lot of books, but sometimes you just can't find the correct image) the star the child is pointing to is standing in for the "Dog Star".

This reminded me of the false horizons on aircraft control panels. This is actually kaleidoscope view of the Metrolink and Amtrak train platform in Glendale.
Finally got something to check my instagram with!

Howe to create a mashup
We were very pleased to be asked back to create a new editorial illustration for Wired Magazine's How to section. This one tells you how to create a mashup. Its got David Bowie in it...
Mods used for the mashup (+personal texture edits): pants, boots - Eli’s Sleeveless Outfits (VANILLA and CBBE) by Elianora; Maxson’s cut-off coat - The Casual Wanderer - Standalone Armors by Evermarch; Scarf - CROSS Uni Scarf by Niero; Rifle on back - combat gear semi upgrade for wearable backpack by nhimkoko; Kellog’s gloves - Gloves of the Commonwealth - Equippable Gloves by fadingsignal; Pouches - Wearable Backpacks and Pouches by Aldebaran90 and Stndmunki.
Took a quick trip to the remains of St. Andrews Churchyard which sits above Church Ope Cove on the Isle of Portland this morning on my way to visit my mother, to grab the scene in the background.
Had this idea for U is for Unicorn for a while and this seemed the perfect setting.
The horse and horn were sourced from the web, I make no claim to them and declare that they will not be used by me commercially. If I ever do get around to making a book of this ABC animal alphabet I will have to reshoot all of the animals - eek
The shape of Ursula's pod is made to mimick Sebulba's pod, but with a color scheme more fitting of the evil octopus witch.
On our daytrip to Globe, AZ, one of our favourite stops was to the Pickle Barrel Trading Post, the best antique emporium we've been to in awhile. We're still "thinking" about the $1,500 water fountain my wife eyed (i.e. I'm humouring her until she gets distracted by something else). Our big splurge was a July 1962 issue of "Arizona Highways" for $5 (cover price 40 cents). I make no claim to be smart with $$.
Anyway, just outside the front door and small parking lot of this fine establishment is a railway track that feels much too close for comfort. I managed to snap a couple shots of two different Arizona Eastern Railway (AZER) trains, each whizzing by in the span of a few minutes, blowing my ponytail into tangles. I share with you my artistic rendering of said experience.
This train slipped out of Allentown at dusk Friday night and I wrote it off; NS 35Q usually makes it across the Harrisburg Line and down the Lurgan Branch by midnight. However, the logistical problems Norfolk Southern has been dealing with lately meant this BCRail - Canadian National - BNSF lashup was waiting for me at Lees Cross Roads Saturday morning. It is seen here running on Main 2 at Goodhart Road.
perhaps of the zillions of pics shot during toronto's g20, this was one of my faves.

This was kind of an odd-ball mash-up but I was there for it!! He even gave me one of the cereal bar on his bandolier because of my reaction and wanting to take his photo (which made his day).

Since last week marked the birthdays of both Norma Jeane (June 1, 1926) and the chief (June 3, 1917), they're together again for the first time on Mashup Monday.
