This maple tree is among the last trees to loose it's folliage.

Out'n about driving northwest of home looking for fall colours and turning down this road then turning down that road, I came upon a driveway, where? I have no idea

Olympic National Forest.

This Northern cardinal is all fluffed up against the cold, dry snow. We ended up with ~8 inches (20.5 cm) of powdery stuff across two days of intermittent flurries. The bird feeders and open water of the pond were effective lures. Luckily we were not in the path of the ice/freezing rain, we know from experience that is devastating.

Yunoko Lake in Oku-Nikko or Upper Nikko is a fresh water lake, located at the altitude of 1478 meters. It constitutes a part of Oku-Nikko Wetland, registered under Ramsar Convention together with Senjogahara and Odashirogahara. To the north of the lake is Yumoto, town of Hot Springs, with over a dozen of hotels and Japanese inns.

The waters of the lake flow into Yutaki Falls (also pronounced Yudaki Falls), which is 70 meters high and 100 meters long, presenting impressive and wonderful view. The view of the lake and waterfall is particularly good in autumn. [Explored]

A scene that I’ve shot several times over the years in various conditions, and every time I visit this spot, it amazes me how green and lush the area is. At the time that I captured this scene, everything was still.....the landscape was quiet. Occasionally you’d get a cool subtle breeze, but the landscape stood still. Almost if the rainforest was asking for its picture to be taken. I love when nature talks like this. It’s moments like this that I enjoy when I’m out with my camera. I just observe. I watch, I listen.

Who says "you cant go home again...?"

May we all find our way to where we want to be.

My apologies to my flickr friends for not commenting on your fine images. I actually was unable to comment or view stats for that matter. I had a heckava time with flickr and Internet Explorer as flickr wants everyone to use a different browser. I don't know who to blame more. Finally, after several weeks it seems to be working fine but I will be switching browsers. I found a nice spot for a sunrise this morning, but it never did develop well. I do love the Oak tree on the left.

This past autumn I had the chance to visit many of the favorite fall spots in the Pacific Northwest. We had an exceptional year here for color and was lucky enough to be at some of these at the right moments. This particular image is from the Portland Japanese Gardens.

I saw this guy in the maple tree and got exactly four frames. It didn't even come down to the pond's stream for a bath. It saw me sitting on the patio in the shade and said, 'nope.'

Merlin suggests a Great crested flycatcher which would be a new one for me. The filtered and reflected sunlight make exact coloration questionable.

I think she's a sugar maple. Can anyone help me on the ID? Kind of hard to tell because the leaves are still young... Do sugar maples grow as tall as this tree is?

This male Orchard oriole showed up briefly and I spotted it from in the house. It took waiting outside most of the rest of the day before it returned for a visit. We can rest assured about seeing these guys as the Cornell Labs says this: "They are also insectivores, so a shrubby backyard may provide enough insects and spiders to attract them."

Autumn in all its splendor, spotted along Scio Church Road between Ann Arbor and Chelsea. I took this on October 28, 2019, perhaps the most gorgeous autumn day we've had this year.

Winter, snow & ice has finally disappeared!!! Now we can celebrate all the beauty of Spring!

Today is the 60th anniversary of Canada's bold & unique Maple Leaf flag. Canadians are being encouraged to fly the flag today, and sales of the flag have soared.

This shot shows a proud Canadian from 2023 with a flag flanked by maple trees outside their home!

This Swainson's thrush was not going to partake of any of the water features of the back yard. It stayed in the lower branches of the maple tree. The Red maple tree's infestation with gloomy scale has meant the lower branches are mainly bare of leaves making bird identification easier. After getting to the correct 700-1200 'GDD' (growing degree days) the tree got its 'treatment.' Evidently the treatment will have to be reapplied both of the next two years, as well.
