...an old twisted and lightening struck maple tree can't escape the invading barberry bushes that surround it.
This scene is on my neighbor's land east of us. One section of their woods is covered in barberries.
...The maples are dropping seeds all over the place here in the woods. A billion new seedings to sprout.

This picture of the famous maple tree was taken last year. I heard that the garden is closed this fall.

The fog is lifting on this gorgeous morning. Look how the tree looks as if it's on fire! Notice the grass seeds alight with backlighting.

This Tennessee warbler (Leiothlypis peregrina) carefully watched the stream below as other birds took turns. I guess it was never satisfied with the options as it never left the maple tree's branch to go down to the water.
Oxtongue River-Ragged Falls is one of the top ten waterfalls in Ontario, Canada. The gravel falls demonstrates the powerful, erosive force of glacial melt water. Algonquin Provincial Park is about 260 km from Toronto. This was taken on an overcast morning, a few hundred metres from the actual falls when the flow was a bit rapid. The river bed comprises predominantly of gravels and stones.

I tried to reproduce the same colors as the last year by taking many pictures on several different days. However, I could not make it, particularly those green and yellow colors in the central part of the photo below. Either the different climate might have made them different, or colored earlier this year while I was away.
While driving in dense, dark forest the sun shone briefly through the clouds brightly illuminating the colours of Fall.

A followup to yesterday's post using one an Janet Broughton's textures from her "Glorious Greys" collection.
I lucked out today and this little lady decided to grab a rest right in front of me. Not only did she pop by for a visit but she stayed long enough for me to readjust the camera settings and snap this shot.
Every once in a while; a photo just lands in front of you face and you'd be silly to pass that by. (especially with a camera in hand)

On an wintry December day in NJ, ice accumulated on this leaf still clinging to this maple tree. The icicles hanging off the leaf were what caught my eye - unusual and striking to me. Gives a certain sense of cold and icy.

This is a follow-up image of my last post, and they show Japanese maples in very different season and conditions. This version was taken during peak fall at Kubota Garden in Seattle.
Story behind the scene: Before I took this image, I had seen photos of this tree online and knew it should be somewhere in the garden, but it took me three visits to finally locate it. Large as it looks in the image, the tree is actually very small and hide itself in bushes. Photography-wise, It was a very tricky location to set up the tripod and frame the tree. I tried my 15mm ultra-wide angle lens, but I have to step way back to include the tree in its entirety, which makes the tree very small in the frame. Luckily, I happened to have a fish-eye lens with me, and after some trials, I was able to photograph this tree in one frame and really exaggerate its unique shape with the perspective distortion. This might be one reason why I love wide-angle lens so much, because you can really be creative in the process and capture unique looking images that are outside of people's normal perspective.

Two log buildings at Pioneer Village at Caesar Creek Lake in southwest Ohio. Perfect weather and a great day for a hike. Many of the historical homes were moved to Pioneer Village at the start of building the flood control Caesar Creek Lake.
Fall Birch
A solitary birch stands in a forest of maple and poplar. The bright white bark is a huge contrast to the brown and grey of the other trees. The accents of gold, yellow, and red leaves that carpet the ground really add to the birch's black and white bands. The autumn light filters through the leaves, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
