This is one of the trees in my front yard and it has tiny flowers before the seed develop.. Some call them Helicopters others call them Keys and all in all they are just the seed and If you aren't careful you will have a lot more maple tree starts... Happy Sliders Sunday, Everybody!!
This Indigo bunting briefly stopped by the pond looking for some action. Yesterday must have been a transition with lots of starlings and grackles stopping by again.
It's my favorite time of year. A gorgeous day, sunny, warm, light breeze, leaves crunching under-foot. Perfection.

Maple sap stalactite. This sap tongue is about 7-8 inches long with a dribble of over a foot down this tree. An unusually warm winter has confused the trees and the sap is running hard, heavy, and a bit early.
I love finding little points of color in the forest. This one was hanging out near the road, and while the sun had technically set behind the mountains, the tree's light colored leaves and other lighter vegetation were still picking up ambient light. I had to tone this one down a bit--the contrast of the yellow leaves was overwhelming!
Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.
The heavy winds and rains have stripped most of the trees now leaving them barren looking.
Fall has come swiftly and the weather has changed.
I call this next 'season' the Brown Season.
This American crow paused to do some preening after its bath in the stream. The window blind makes it almost level with the branches of this Maple tree. While I liked the color version, somehow the all black bird called out for some BW treatment.
Same Wood fern 13 days later. I enjoy the change of season into Autumn with it's crisp air and beautiful colors.

More commonly referred to as “helicopters,” “whirlers,” “twisters” or “whirligigs,” samaras are the winged seeds produced by maple trees. All maples produce samaras, but red, silver and Norway maples often produce the largest quantities.
The tree that produces these beauties is in my yard and I was trying for a different angle, that is looking straight up at them. Anyway, just playing around! LOL Happy Sabbath to all and may your day be blessed! :)
Autumn in the Big Quilcene River valley. This is one of my favorite views of the river, doesn't matter the season.
I saw this little guy for a few frames and ID'ed it as a Red-breasted nuthatch. It stayed on this Maple tree branch and didn't attempt a visit to the pond's stream. I had seen someone's photo of one and remarked that I'd never seen one. There is one more shot from this excellent bird watching morning, another small local favorite.
How man autumns and winters does a sapling endure before it's a sapling no more? Which makes me wonder what season causes the most stress on a tree?

Took this amazing rainbow just before sunset the other day (equinox March 21 2025). Eating dinner...rush to find the cameras..dash outside to the ever-changing scene..capture a few shots before it went single then disappeared.

Tiny part of our maple tree and its delicate shadow fallen on the hood of a Toyota Camry caught my eye. Both the large end on the left and the fine ends on right are touching the hood. Very overcast light. Very shallow DOF.
Truly sorry for so many photos, have quite a few taken recently I haven't saved but with storms coming tonight/Tuesday/Wednesday I wanted to save some. Likely more to come. :) No need to comment, please.

Amazing that it arranged the nest with more broken branches and broken burlap too.
What is impressive is that the trees are dead yesterday they create nests.
Eventually will smell bad and I won’t walk on to it again.
