Scenic fall landscape in the province of Quebec, Canada

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

One of many new tiny buds forming on our sunset red maple trees almost silhouetted, backlit and aglow in the late day sun caught my eye. High overhead, none low enough to use my macro. Wanted to get some with the sun shining on them earlier in the day but didn't. Will likely be a bit before sunny again with storms and very heavy rains off and on the next several days. :(

Moss covered Maple from the Duckabush valley.

Stanley, Park, Vancouver BC

Beautiful weather and hundreds of fishing boats on Caesar Creek Lake is Southwestern Ohio.

Some of the last seed pods of this small Maple tree are still left to drop. Some people call these "helicopters", "whirlybirds" or "polynoses", but the real name for these pods are samaras. The "wings" of the samaras are translucent, allowing the sunlight to be captured, and appearing as if they are left glowing on the branches.

This maple tree was located at Chionin Temple in the northern part of Kyoto, Japan.

South end of Lords Lake, one of my favorite scenes.

Another photo I took some years ago, and revisited with fresh eyes recently.

For WH Low, who came too early to Tokyo (in early November) to catch these colors in vain. I went there today (Dec. 2) to photograph and send it to him.

Didn't see this scene on the way up valley. Sometimes out and back trails have their advantages. North Fork Sol Duc Trail, Olympic National Park.

Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.

I enjoy visiting Hakone Gardens, a beautiful Japanese garden in Saratoga, California. The garden’s trails offer a rich variety of vegetation to explore. I reached with my camera into the dense canopy of a small maple tree to expose its gnarly trunk.

I processed balanced, a photographic, and a paintery HDR photos from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, desaturated the image, and added some negative vignetting. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) on snowy maple tree branches.

There's a beautiful maple bursting red right now at McCurdy Farms, where they set up a farmer's market on Saturdays and Sundays. It's also the place to get the best free-range eggs in Hood River County on Sunday mornings at 10 am.

I used Live View and held the camera as high as I could to get the shot. Can't tell if it's too cliché or if it just makes me happy, but here you go.

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple which I caught just on the turn one sunny early Autumn day in May.

Melbourne experienced a wonderful Indian summer this year, and as a result, not only are there still plenty of beautiful blooms about, but the Autumnal colours were brilliant.

One last evening glow lets the sun shine through the leaves of a maple tree before night falls.

While we were walking around the Utah State University campus in Logan, I spotted this tree with its seeds in full color. I've never taken pictures of maple seeds, and I loved the backlighting that I had with this image. I have memories of watching these seeds twirling to the ground like a helicopter when I was a kid and thinking how cool they were flying through the air. I never realized how beautiful they look when they are in the flower stage. I hope you can enjoy it also.

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like these maple leaves, which are quickly gaining the rich gold, orange and red tones of the season.

Just in time for Halloween, a freak October snowstorm brought heavy wet snow to our region.. strange to see the trees peaking with autumn color suddenly blanketed in snowfall!

Snails seem to like the shade of our maple tree; I counted a handful of them, taking refuge from the sun. Shot with a Helios 44-2, wide open.
