11月初旬の稲武紅葉。最初はタカドヤ湿地。あと数日遅ければ真っ赤になったような・・・。

There's a beautiful maple bursting red right now at McCurdy Farms, where they set up a farmer's market on Saturdays and Sundays. It's also the place to get the best free-range eggs in Hood River County on Sunday mornings at 10 am.
I used Live View and held the camera as high as I could to get the shot. Can't tell if it's too cliché or if it just makes me happy, but here you go.
Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple which I caught just on the turn one sunny early Autumn day in May.
Melbourne experienced a wonderful Indian summer this year, and as a result, not only are there still plenty of beautiful blooms about, but the Autumnal colours were brilliant.
One last evening glow lets the sun shine through the leaves of a maple tree before night falls.

Though I only climbed the first sand dune at Sleeping Bear Sand Dune National Lakeshore, I was treated to a spectacular view of Little Glen Lake. The fall colors were stunning, but you know what that dark sky meant...yes, I got a bit wet.

Just in time for Halloween, a freak October snowstorm brought heavy wet snow to our region.. strange to see the trees peaking with autumn color suddenly blanketed in snowfall!

Snails seem to like the shade of our maple tree; I counted a handful of them, taking refuge from the sun. Shot with a Helios 44-2, wide open.

I love it when nature does the photo setup for me! I took this in my backyard earlier today.
A first winter White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys) perched on a branch of a Japanese Maple.
An Orange-crowned Warbler feeding on frozen Maple sap that was melting in the sun. Apparently humans aren't the only ones who like Maple syrup ;o)
This bird is one of a few of its species wintering in our part of southern Ontario this season, outside of its typical winter range.

This Swainson's thrush was very shy and stayed in the Maple tree rather than come down and either drink or bathe on the pond's stream. We had no rain yesterday and an overcast day today will give me the opportunity to utilize a grandchild to help get the two new lotus plants into the pond. Once in their pots, they are not light and my knee isn't ready for the hip-waders just yet.
Smoke Tree Flame is a stunning medium sized shrub. The rounded foliage of mid green is highlighted by feathery plumes of silvery white in summer. This spectacular deciduous shrub changes into glowing tones of red and orange as Autumn approaches.
Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.

Yesterday there was so much avian activity in the yard that I could hardly catch up. There's rain and colder temps coming and everyone seemed to be aware. There are frost warnings out for later this week and I need to get the hoses drained and put away. It is also time to get the netting over the pond, once I have to clean the skimmer every day it's too late. FYI, I do leave a portion of the stream open for the birds but some still get caught under it.

At the end of October we hiked into the park at Mono Mills Conservation area. We followed the main trial then took a side trail which led us deeper into the brush for about a kilometer. we would stop now and then taking pictures as we went.
It was a cool but beautiful day; the sun was darting in and out of clouds and the wind was just a gentle breeze that rustled the few leaves that remained in the trees overhead. .

Here's a pretty one who by this coming summer with have a lovely White Crown. A juvenile, first winter White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys) on ice, waiting for it's Kingdom.
This female Orchard oriole appeared with the male later in the day. They are the smallest of the oriole family. I saw this gal in the pond's stream but liked her pose in the Maple tree with the green background better. The Cornell Labs says these are a later migrant and leave earlier so I may have missed the Baltimores this year.
