Went maple sugaring last week end, as you can see, Spring is late in coming this year.

The colours this year are just phenomenal!

At the sugarbush operation that we visited, the tap and bucket method has been replaced by a tap and line method that uses gravity to feed the sap from individual trees down to a central point where it is then pumped back up to a modern day version of the sugar shack for further processing into food grade maple syrup.

The backpack pushes my shoulders into a slump, my eyes lifting wearily from the ground ahead of me to meet the bursts of orange that blankets the earth. I gasp slightly, and adjust my eyes to this new hue.

We planted this maple when Elise was born. Look how much I have to look up into it now!

A few autumn snaps taken along my morning coffee walk.

I took a trip out to Lost Maples to see the foliage. Unfortunately, Mother Nature wasn't the most cooperative this year, and the colors weren't as great as when I had visited 4 years ago. It was still great to see some color and to be outdoors!

I had a few minutes after work yesterday to shoot a few photos of the fall foliage on display at the Washington Arboretum. The trick is to find a nice composition excluding sky and people! Fortunately, there are many possibilities here!

Technical details: Canon 5D Mark II, EF24-70mm f/2.8L USM at f/22 and 28mm focal length, 0.6 second exposure (after the sun has gone down!) at ISO 800. I also used a B+W circular polarizer for this image.
