maple & poplar in early spring

my japanese maple is spectacular this year

The Maple Street Bridge over the Mill Brook in Fairfax, Vermont.

It only takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of Maple Syrup... Only.

It is nice to see sap buckets hanging, a vast majority of Maple sugarers now use pipeline to collect sap. Although convenient, pipeline is no where near as appealing to look at as sap buckets!

Guiling park - Shanghai

I made this about 5 years ago when I had a furniture design class at Marshall University. It's maple and walnut. I personally like the walnut spline joints on the pedestal. It was used as a kitchen table for a long time, now, it sits in the basement.

Maple Valley Big Baptism Weekend 2017

My Japanese maple (acer palmatum), with a little July rain beading up on the leaves.

Maple and I decided to go to the playground. It had been raining earlier that day, but it cleared up nicely and I was thinking it was a good idea. Well, I forgot that everything would be wet!

So, after a little bit of disappointment on Maple's part, I told Maple we'd go to an indoor playground. We started heading towards this cool little "kids cafe" called Smalltalk, but when I started to walk in, Maple said she wanted to go to the "other one". After a little inquiry, I realized that she meant the one at the Leiner department store on Mariahilferstrasse.

Not only does Leiner have a little indoor playground in the cafe (with rooftop decks and a view!), but the entire children's furniture department is, as far as Maple is concerned, a playground -- slides, tunnels, books and, importantly, the hand chair!

The barrels that receive the sap coming down from the tapped trees. It's hard to see in this photo but there are blue hoses snaking through the woods from tree to tree, leading down to these barrels.

I'm noticing LisaNH, one of my contacts, has further shots in her photostream showing the same.
