Down in the macro world when we make it bigger than reality, like 2x bigger, so much appears in a new light. Found some small "balls" on a birch stump that in all its insignificance was shyly struggling on in the autumn-winter cold. Thought a little visit with the macro lens might be fun. Once I got everything in place and checked the viewfinder, it was something completely different than a few small balls. An alien-like scenario with mighty eggs and in front of them a small newborn intensely red entity that had even smaller insects as tender caregivers. Another world and other lives but with the same universal tenderness we give our newborns. 😆
Well, not an alien but a little wolf´s milk if I understand it correctly. From the slime mold family and the little red one, yes it is growing. The little dots on the little red one are some type of insect, miniminimini insects that munch on the little red one's surface layer.
A little help with LED lighting and my little fantasy world came to life... 😁😊..

I much preferred the shot I took of this at F16 and 1/30 which made the sky darker and more dramatic but it had a lot of tiny splodges on. And it would of meant a lot of tricky photoshop editing to not ruin the cloud patterns. And I also couldn't be bothered. haha!

gotta say I totally agree here....I have heard the saying "make love not war" but this was the first time i'd seen it put so matter of factly !! bahahaha
Thankfully, this one didn't sting me...it's branch was sticking out into the trail, so I could keep my distance, but then bent the branch back and off the trail, to make sure that no other hiker accidently brushed against it...
The smells. That's what takes me back. Like an encore at the end of the night, just one more song. Back to the sidewalk with the Italian oleander and the sea in the air. Back to the roadside fruit stand raspberries, taking customer orders after school on Wednesdays and Fridays. Back to the couch watching cartoons with cinnamon and syrup fingers. Home and travels, breathe it in so you can keep them forever.

I was given a 7 hour time slot to paint this peice, The gate to the lot would lock up at 5 and I wasn't allow to stay and paint past business hours. Anyway, I showed up an hour late and painted my ass of for 6 hours. It was a real workout because of the scale, and my forearm felt like it was a wet noodle after. Although the time constraint helped with the 'deconstructive painting style, random 3d, hollow effects and negative spaces played a big role.

I make a lot of errors in trying to identify wildlife. When I was growing up on the farm the animals were like cars in the 1950s, I could tell you the make and model of each one. Then came the Asian entry into our markets and today I can’t tell one from another when they are whizzing by on the highway.
But the Minnesota zoo folks think I should easily be able to identify the snapping turtle. Here's what they say about this species of turtle:
"The common snapping turtle is Minnesota's largest species of turtle. It is easily distinguished from all other Minnesota turtles by its size, keeled upper shell (called a carapace), large head, and long, bumpy tail."
I am guessing this whopper must be a snapping turtle.

With several inches of fresh snow and frigid temps that assured it wouldn't melt I headed west after work for a couple trains at one of my favorite spots that offers up perfect morning light.
CSXT train I022 (hot Syracuse to Worcester long pool intermodal) with 2748 tons and 4443 ft of train trailing two big Gevos up front makes effortless work of the 1% grade up Charlton Hill as they sail thru the interlocking at CP60 on modern day CSXT's Boston Sub mainline, the once and forever Boston and Albany Railroad. The train's destination is only fifteen miles away after making a fast early morning run along the Mohawk River, across the Hudson and up over the Berkshires on the the old Vanderbilt road.
