Something new from me, hope you are not too fearful ... :-)

Was thrilled to get a chance to see Linzi in action, doing her own Special Effects (SFX) mannikin make up!

(Thanks to Kenny! www.flickr.com/photos/59608457@N05 ) for setting it up.

It took Linzi a couple of hours and the effect was truly amazing! This girl has real talent and imagination!

someone told me last night's moon was the fullest moon of the year and to make a wish.

so i did. hmmmm .... =)

silly, but hey.

sometimes, any excuse to dream, to hope is just what we need when we're stuck in a rut.

So let us melt,

and make no noise

Fountain Of Wealth

Supported by four 13.8 metres high bronze legs and spreading over an area of 1683.07 metres, the Fountain of Wealth has been accorded the status of "World's Largest Fountain" in the 1998 edition of the Guinness Book of Records. It is symbolically the ring in the palm of the hand, guaranteeing the retention of wealth. It is destined to be Singapore's most visited tourist destination.

The plaza would provide a large outdoor space for people to gather. But on its own, it would not achieve sufficient visual impact. A dramatic fountain was proposed as a visual focus. The Fountain Plaza, now the focal point of Suntec City, is also at the heart of the Marina Centre area. Not only is it the hub of circulation within the development, it also draws life from the surrounding buildings. This is why it sits off centre within Suntec City -so that it can be directly connected to its neighbours.

The flowing water from the Fountain is also a potent symbol as water is the essence of life in almost every culture. Located round this symbolic centre of life are the buildings which make up Suntec City. These buildings attract human activity - life - to the area. At ground level, vehicles flow around the fountain plaza while pedestrians flow into the buildings around it. Below ground, at the Fountain Terrace, all the buildings are interconnected by shops and restaurants. The complex is also connected to its neighbours by both underground and street-level pedestrian linkways.

Dollops of mist rise into the crisp morning air from the warmer, rippled and reflecting waters of Price Lake as sunlight strikes the warm autumn colors near the tops of the trees while leaving the trunks and undergrowth in cool shadows, a short hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Blowing Rock, North Carolina.

This is one of those shots, I expect, which resonates much more with me as the photographer than with most viewers. A couple of weeks ago we had made a one-night run to the Blue Ridge Mountains for a series of short hikes seeking colorful fall scenes, and this morning before sunrise we had made the quick jaunt from the Parkway around Price Lake hoping to catch a scene including Grandfather Mountain lit with alpenglow rising over the lake with some clouds above and autumn interest in the foreground. As it turned out, the alpenglow on Grandfather was very nice, but the skies stayed completely clear and my efforts with the foreground fell short as well, so I started paying closer attention to the reflections near the shore as the morning sun first started to strike the brilliant fall leaves higher in the trees in one area. No doubt reflections of trees in gently rippled lakes are common, and most always pleasing, but something about the light and shadow, the warm and cool, and how the mist rose in little clumps struck me here, and I thought it made for something of an interesting abstract.

One other note: If you look closely, you will see a few leaves floating through the scene like little boats, and one in particular near the center right of the image. Tempting as it was to clone them out, I enjoyed watching them gently make their way across the shallows in the soft breeze and decided that they added just a little something to the photograph as they did to my enjoyment in being there.

Thanks for viewing!

This poor little guy looked like he had had enough of the fountain.

The sky eventually cleared and the stars rained down instead. Some beautiful Geminids seen tonight. Nice to see the stars again, the milky way and Andromeda galaxy too. Although the cloud had to make a small appearance just to let me know it was still lingering around like a bad smell.

All I needed to top this image off was a bit of Aurora ;) but we can't ask for everything can we, sometimes we just have to accept that what we have is just fine anyway.

So... I'm back from travelling and have too many images from different countries to look at... So I started with the very last one I took... haha!

This year's Perseids meteor shower happened during the very last night of my vacations and came on a cloudness night with a new moon, making the show clearly visible. It was beautiful to watch all the falling stars all around us.

Here, 8 of them can be seen. 3 clear ones and 5 faint ones. The colors of meteors are caused by their chemical compositions. When they have higher speeds while entering the Earth's atmosphere the color may appear more intense.

The foreground is made up of the 904 m high Jonsknuten mountain. The 92 m high mast on its top is reflected in a small pond.

In cooperation with Haida filters.

I used the Haida Nano Pro MC Clear-Night Filter for the second time here and I liked its effects. It reduced light pollution and adds a nice mood to the night-sky. It seems to me that it makes more stars appear in the transition zone of the sky, close to the landscape, where the earth’s atmosphere is different than higher up.

The most important thing you can do is make the distinction between customer service and guest hospitality. You need both things to thrive, but they are completely different.

There will come a time in your life where you will ask yourself a series of questions:

Am I happy with with who I am?

Am I happy with the people around me?

Am I happy with what I'm doing?

Am I happy with the way my life is going?

Do I have a life?

Or am I just living?

Don't let these questions restrain or trouble you.

Just point yourself in the direction of your dreams.

Find your strength in the sound and make your transition.

Do not spend too much time thinking and not enough doing.

Did I try the hardest at any of my dreams?

Did I purposely let others discourage me when I knew I could?

Will I die never knowing what I could have been or could of done?

Do not let these doubts restrain or trouble you just point yourself in the direction of your dreams.

Find your strength in the sound and make your transition.

There will be people who say you can't - you will.

There will be people who say you don't mix this with that and you will say "watch me".

There will be people who will say play it safe, thats too risky - you will take that chance and have no fear.

You wont let these questions restrain or trouble you.

You will point yourself in the direction of your dreams.

You will find the strength in the sound and make your transition.

For those who know its time to leave the house and go back to the field.

Find your strength in the sound and make your transition.

Timely indeed!

Her face was white, her lips was red with a black draw under them. The make-up was not really well done. She was dancing near a phone store. She had a strange costume for his performance. The old lady seemed to be in his own world . I stand nearby for a while, before talking. When I finaly asked her to be shooted, she agreed with joy (after having begged money).

She told me about her life and her art. She used to be jazz dancer and mime (she was a student of Marcel Marceau) in New-York a long time ago.

On the picture, you can't here her voice : sweet and gentle. Before leaving, I kissed her on the cheek for the wonderful moment.

Come my friends,

'Tis not too late to seek a newer world

for my purpose holds to sail beyond the sunset.

And though we are not now that strenght which in old days

Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;

One equal temper of heroic hearts,

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will.

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Alfred Lord Tenysson (1809-1892)

Venid amigos

No es tarde

para buscar un mundo nuevo,

pues sueño con navegar

más allá del crepúsculo

y, aunque no tengamos

la fuerza que antaño

movió cielos y tierra,

Somos lo que somos:

un mismo temple

de corazones heróicos

debilitados por el tiempo, pero

voluntariosos para luchar,

buscar y encontrar

y no rendirse.

Que vuestros deseos se cumplan en 2011!!!

Pero sólo si refiere al amor, amistad, trabajo, encuentros...

Had a fantastic "home time", five full days with family. So good to be there for my mom's 85th birthday. She's in great shape, still drives but hates driving on the freeways. Can't blame her. My brother Ralph was there from Arkansas and spent lots of time on his laptop going over thousands of rodeo pictures he took the previous weekend. Hopefully he'll sell lots of them to the participants of that event. He's posted a few on his Flickr gallery. Great stuff. His daughter was also in town from California, good to spend a bit of time with my niece too.

Went to La Caile restaurant for a photo shoot of my 5 year old granddaughter on Sunday. They charge $250 for a three hour shoot, but if you have dinner there you can roam around the property and take pictures afterwards. So we had dinner, grandpa paid, and actually spent a bit more than $250. A good deal, the food was amazing and we had about an hour of good light. My daughter and I had a blast taking pictures of our little model princess. She really put on the show, making some faces that were funny, but not what we were looking for. Still, she gave us plenty of great looks and we were happy with everything. So much fun, I can't even begin to express.

Back on the road Monday, but so busy as usual, finding time to enjoy some Flickr time has been hard. I'll be catching up in bits and pieces as time permits. I may not be able to comment on every picture, but will do my best. Hopefully my faves, and comments when I can, will let you know how much I enjoy seeing your amazing photography. Your work and encouragement make Flickr my favorite place to be. Well, second favorite, behind my camera would be first. (not counting family and such for obvious reasons)

Hope you like this picture, got more on the way. Thank you dear friends!

Balsams make really nice, and fragrant, Christmas trees... string together some of those berries from the mountain ash to get a head start on decorations!

I may be preaching to the choir here as I point out that Joyce and I are always quite busy this time of year. I’ll be scrambling around today for last minute ingredients for meals I’m preparing for a Christmas gathering of international students from Duke University with International Students, Inc tomorrow evening at our church’s fellowship hall. The meal is potluck-style, with many members of our church pitching in, as we may be feeding 150+ people. We must be concerned about dietary restrictions of some the students, Muslims for instance, so I’m making a huge pot of gluten-free rotini pasta with Bolognese sauce and southern-style chicken and dumplings… comfort food. Others will be making vegan dishes and desserts. I will be there early to coordinate the kitchen and the food… Joyce will be there to help with finishing touches on holiday decorations.... after she returns from Boydton, Virginia, where she's also setting up decorations at the historic Boyd Tavern along with the mayor's wife... she knows how to hobnob.

At this gathering last year, I sat at a table with a few first-year engineering students from China. Engineering is something I understand, so we had a pretty good conversation going on. That conversation led to issues of regionalism and colloquialism that we found quite funny. "Regionalism" eventually reached across the world when they asked me what I thought of them. I'm sitting there with science-minded young adults brilliant enough to attend one of the most elite schools in the world from a country that insists communism is their only God... and yet, I was able to explain God to them and why we celebrate His birth at Christmas. In doing so, I explained how God tells me that I can't say that I love Him without also loving them... that's much of the theme of the Book of James. They sat silent for a bit after that, though I could see something was whirling around in their heads. As I gathered my stuff to leave that evening, they were lined up at the door to thank me and hug me for talking to them... and one of them now attends church with us. Time spent with God never returns void.

After church this Sunday, we're both headed back to Boydton, a little over an hour away on the far side of Kerr Lake, to participate in the open house Christmas activities there. I will be taking photos of kids with Santa Claus... which should up my ante on the naughty or nice quotient. Time will tell.

I can’t adequately describe the thrill of seeing not one, but two, koalas just near home this week. It doesn’t get much better than that 😍 And it was just delightful to see so many people stopping their cars to look, show their kids and take photos. (The koalas were safely inside the fence line of our golf course which has unfortunately been sold, but close enough to to the road to be easily seen).

It’s a desperately sad fact that koalas in Queensland, where I live, are now listed as an endangered species. Their numbers continue to decline as a result of habitat loss due to land clearing for development and farming, climate events like bushfires and drought, and disease.

Spring is mating season for koalas and I was lucky to spot two of them in the same tree in our local area where it’s estimated there are around 40 living in a conservation zone. But even this area is now under threat of housing redevelopment which would mean the further destruction of precious habitat for the koalas, kangaroos and other wildlife. The developers and local authorities will have a fight on their hands. I am getting ready for battle.
