Birds of prey are fascinating and majestic animals. They can generally be defined as birds that feed on animals that they catch alive. Representatives of these two orders can be found almost everywhere in the world. Although these groups are distantly related, the behavioural and anatomical characteristics they share appear to be mainly the result of parallel evolution.

Milkweed plants have the most unique flowers. They are important to many pollinator...but hold a special place in the life of the Monarch butterfly.

"Besides monarchs, frequent visitors also include native bees, honey bees, hummingbirds, and many other types of butterflies.

Milkweed is both a food source and a host plant for monarch eggs that are laid on the underside of the leaves. The larvae feed on the leaves after hatching, but cause no permanent damage to the plant. In turn, the toxic chemicals in the sap of milkweed plants make both the caterpillars and adult butterflies unappetizing to predators."

"During monarch migration flight is fueled by nectaring on the flowers and is punctuated by laying eggs on milkweeds. To grow and sustain each generation, milkweed is the only food needed,” says Agrawal.

This small and distinctive family only has about seven species in it. The scientific name Ptychoptera refers to their 'folded' wings, i.e., a crease in the wing that can make the wing appear very narrow. The abdomen is mainly black with a small amount of orange, the 'thighs' are also orange in colour. The clear wings have a number of darker dots and these are larger towards the centre of the wings.

Habitat - Frequents water margins and marshy areas.

The adults are to be seen flying from May to October.

Larvae are aquatic, living in mud and litter in shallow water. They resemble long thin terrestrial 'leather jackets' with long breathing tube tails that extend to the surface of the water.

Fairly frequent and widespread in England and Wales.

A gorgeous red autumn tree reflected in the cool waters of a Heavenly garden pond.

According to the current theme, group members were supposed to represent an adage in a photo. I chose "You've got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette", which means that if you want to achieve something, you often have to destroy something or make difficult sacrifices. I used an egg cup, a chocolate egg filled with colourful sweets and a teaspoon for the photo.

De acuerdo con el tema propuesto, los miembros del grupo teníamos que representar un dicho en una foto. Escogí aquel que dice que “no se puede hacer tortilla sin romper los huevos”, el cual significa que se tienen que destruir algo o hacer sacrificios difíciles para lograr algo. Para la foto, utilicé una huevera, un huevo de chocolate relleno con dulces coloridos y una cucharilla.

Happy Labor Day! Per our usual, each year we try to get to a fair. We went with family and walked around, viewed all the expo buildings and watched our children enjoy the rides. It was a long day in the hot sun but worth every moment of it. Memories are something that never can be taken away! Life passes too quickly too, so try and make some memories before it is too late!

I make a mixture of mealworms, peanutbutter and chopped raisins for the bluebirds. Here he is about to get some.

You know I am not a fan of over-saturation so I will tell you that this bright blue is right out of the camera. I guess you could say he is in his breeding colors.
