Ridge line and twilight stars along Shadow Creek, Ansel Adams Wilderness, Ca.

This was a few minutes after sunset. The ridge had some nice light on it during twilight still so I experimented a bit to try and capture the stars. Also the full moon was minutes away from rising so there was a short window to capture this. I like how the light is nice and even from both sides - the sun set to the right and the moon would rise from the left.

An entry for the Challenge Group 52 in 2014 No.14 ~ Represent a Song with An Image. - "Puff, The Magic Dragon"

An entry for the Challenge Group 114 Pictures in 2014 No.95 ~ Magic or Magical.

This figurine is part of a large Tudor Mint Myth & Magic collection I own and which I am currently in the gradual processof selling, except for this item which is the largest figurine they produced in the series and is a Limited Edition. The piece is "The Power Of The Crystal"

The song "Puff, The Magic Dragon" was recorded in 1962 and released in 1963 by Peter, Paul and Mary.

The lyrics for "Puff, the Magic Dragon" were based on a 1959 poem by Leonard Lipton, a 19-year-old Cornell University student. Lipton was inspired by an Ogden Nash poem titled "Custard the Dragon", about a "realio, trulio little pet dragon."

The lyrics tell a story of the ageless dragon Puff and his playmate Jackie Paper, a little boy who grows up and loses interest in the imaginary adventures of childhood and leaves Puff alone and depressed. (Because of the line "A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys", the lyrics may imply to some that Jackie Paper dies.) The story of the song takes place "by the sea" in the fictional land of Honalee (the spelling used by author Lenny Lipton, though non-authoritative variations abound.)

Lipton was friends with Peter Yarrow's housemate when they were all students at Cornell. He used Yarrow's typewriter to get the poem out of his head. He then forgot about it until years later, when a friend called and told him Yarrow was looking for him, to give him credit for the lyrics. On making contact Yarrow gave Lipton half the songwriting credit, and he still gets royalties from the song.

In an effort to be gender-neutral, Yarrow now sings the line "A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys" as "A dragon lives forever, but not so girls and boys." This implies that Jackie Paper can be either a girl or a boy, even though it originally was about a boy. The original poem also had a verse that did not make it into the song. In it, Puff found another child and played with him after returning. Neither Yarrow nor Lipton remembers the verse in any detail, and the paper that was left in Yarrow's typewriter in 1958 has since been lost.

In 1961, Yarrow joined Paul Stookey and Mary Travers to form Peter, Paul and Mary. The group incorporated the song into their live performances before recording it in 1962; their 1962 recording of "Puff" reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and spent two weeks atop the Billboard easy listening chart in early 1963. It also reached number ten on Billboard's R&B chart.

Lyrics

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,

Little Jackie paper loved that rascal puff,

And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. oh

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail

Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,

Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came,

Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys

Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.

One grey night it happened, Jackie paper came no more

And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,

Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.

Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,

So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea

And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

It was a stormy sunset at Coles Bay. I stayed in the car, waiting for the storm to pass. Glad I did, as after the storm passed, dusk fell, and it was the magic hour.

IMPORTANT NOTES: There was a non color change version of this set called 1998 Food Fun Makin' Breakfast.

SPECIAL FEATURES: Color change food

PERSONAL FUN FACT: My sister and I got these items sometime in 2011. I think they were included in the "Filthy Disney Bin" that we bought at an "indoor yard sale." I could be wrong though...it's been SO many years. I know that we didn't have these pieces as kids, because they are so distinctive. The waffle, eggs, bread, and toast with jam would have been favorite food pieces no doubt. I never had actual separate eggs or bread slices as a child. Barbie could make toast, but you'd have to pretend to take slices from the bread bags. Barbie could eat eggs, but the eggs never left the cartons. And it was the same with waffles. I adore how this set actually comes with those physical food items, rather than just the packaging they'd come in. The color change feature is subtle...not something I ever noticed until I identified these pieces. It is a little sad we are missing the bacon, but for the most part, we have all the best accessories so I cannot complain!
