Botanical name: Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. Family: Malvaceae.
Taken in my garden in Gordon's Bay, Western Cape. Out of the five hibiscus shrubs in the garden, this one is the most spectacular with it's enormous multi-coloured frilly petals and I have frequent requests from visitors for cuttings. Much loved by gardeners and snails alike!
The MAGIC I Cherenkov Telescope at the Observatory Roque de los Muchachos (ORM), La Palma. This huge mirror (17 meters in diameter) detects faint flashes of light (so called Cherenkov radiation) that are released when high energy gamma rays hit the Earth's atmosphere.
This instrument works together with the neighbouring MAGIC II telescope, forming a sterooscopic pair that can determine the precise location of the celestial object that sent out the gamma rays.
In the background, the dome of the William Herschel Telescope (WHT), the Swedish Solar Telescope (SST) and the Dutch Open Telescope (DOT) are visible.
A twist on the magic bonnet shots i always seem to do! The RX8 is pillar-less so seemed like the ideal car to get this shot on.
Took this a while ago and put it on my facebook and forgot about it.
I wish i had a wide angle lens for this shot!

Be kind and tender to the Frog,
And do not call him names,
As ‘Slimy skin,’ or ‘Polly-wog,’
Or likewise ‘Ugly James,’
Or ‘Gape-a-grin,’ or ‘Toad-gone-wrong,’
Or ‘Billy Bandy-knees’:
The Frog is justly sensitive
To epithets like these.
No animal will more repay
A treatment kind and fair;
At least so lonely people say
Who keep a frog (and, by the way,
They are extremely rare).

Magic mushroom tea.
Mushroom tea is tea brewed from mushrooms. Mushroom tea is a generic term for tea brewed from any mushroom, but generally the term is used to refer to tea made from "magic mushrooms".
"Magic mushrooms" is a colloquial term for any mushrooms that contain a high concentration of psilocybine and psilocine. These chemicals cause hallucinations when taken.
Mushroom tea tends to affect the user after around 30 minutes of consumption. Users generally feel relaxed initially, then euphoric before the visualizations begin. This state usually lasts about five hours.
Mushroom tea can intensify existing emotions, as well as heighten a person's awareness.
Mushroom tea may be difficult to drink on its own, due to its unpleasant taste. Most users therefore drink mushroom tea as a mixture along with tea and spices.

The Minitel is a Videotex online service accessible through the telephone lines, and is considered one of the world's most successful pre-World Wide Web online services. It was launched in France in 1982 by the PTT (Poste, Téléphone et Télécommunications; divided since 1991 between France Télécom and La Poste). From its early days, users could make online purchases, make train reservations, check stock prices, search the telephone directory, have a mail box, and chat in a similar way to that now made possible by the Internet.
In February 2009, France Telecom indicated the Minitel network still had 10 million monthly connections, among which 1 million are on the 3611 (directory). France Telecom is planning to retire the service on 30 June 2012.[1]

Spotted these fungi along side the neighbourhood pond, as you see them above. I was clicking away, when all of a sudden, a woman came out of nowhere and asked me if I had staged this shot. Nope, I said, just found them like this. Click Click.
She then proceeded to tell me that she loves to stage all of her shots, and as I'm still clicking she steps over the chain link fence, bends down and re-arranges the top mushroom and finds a leaf to place beside it. There, she says, That's how I would stage it.
I'm smiling away, because I'm thinking...but Lady I wasn't finished with the first placement. Oh well, what can you do but smile at the fact that someone else is as eager and excited about taking a photograph. So, click click some more. See below.
I had so many passersby, stop and admire these beauties asking me what they were. Didn't know till today. Far Out Man...Mushroom soup anyone?
Yesterday was magic. In the early afternoon, I cut paper birds with families as part of the village's Sinterklaas festivities, then had a birthday lunch with a dear friend from out of town and her mother, then did live portrait sittings for a couple of hours, and then my opening-- fifty papercuttings in blue, black, and grey of so many things I love. I noticed this little spark of light as the first family sat down to cut their birds. More to come...
Create a magical world and put on a show with animated puppets, lights, sounds and motion! We are developing a mobile theater for various storytelling experiments under way at Pataphysical Studios. We hope to perform our first play this fall, during our Dada exhibit at the Canessa Gallery in North Beach.
Tentatively called ‘Ubu’s Dreams’, this shadow puppet presentation would feature Père Ubu, the hero of Alfred Jarry’s surreal plays at the turn of the last century. The premise is that Ubu is constantly dreaming, interacting with archetypal characters from diverse myths and legends, connecting us with our collective unconscious.
We now propose to flesh out this idea by acting out a couple short sketches in coming weeks. Some of the first sketches illustrated in this mockup could include traditional shadow puppets in the balinese tradition, which we can laser cut as wood figures -- while other sketches could combine physical objects with digital images, as we are doing with ‘Violet’s Journey’, our duck robot fairy tale.
