Macro Magic - 6 (of 12) - Canon 30D (2006) with Vivitar 55mm 1:2.8 auto macro (Fotodiox OM to EOS adapter) - Photographer Russell McNeil PhD (Physics) lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, where he works as a writer.
400 mm lens .... a lot ... I know on some shots like this I can't get the clarity that my baby girl would with her macro magic ... but still ... it's just so handy to have in certain times ... like this one...very high winds ... and little buddy here was just a clinging to the blueberry bush ... nice to see the dragons back ... they are a big part of Palo and I .... how cool...
Ahh, magic tricks.
When I was a boy,
I wanted to impress my friends and cousins with magic. I learned slieght of hand for parlor tricks and card tricks.
When I was a bit older, my 'handle' on the CB radio was "The Magician." Nothing special came of those skills. No cutting a white tiger in two or making an elephant disappear. I have matured a little bit since then.
Photo taken for Macro MOnday's where each week we follow a suggested theme or topic and post up to five photos showing our interpretation on Mondays.
so here ya go. It's still Monday in Vegas and California...

My latest 35mm point and shoot acquisition (£1.50 from a charity shop).
Photo taken using my new saucepan technique (I think it distributes the flash more effectively).
Note the little flower button which does some kind of 6cm macro magic. (Update: no it doesn't!)
100 and 400 ISO DX sensing only
CR2 battery
It's very light and compact - hope the pictures turn out good too!

This is the lens combination I use for my extreme macros.
I reverse-mount a Nikon 50mm f/1.4D prime lens on a Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G telephoto lens using a filter thread coupler I got on eBay.
Reversed prime lenses act as magnifying glasses. In my setup, I use a telephoto lens to zoom into a reversed prime lens, producing extreme levels of magnification.
This particular lens setup produces images with irritating chromatic aberration, dust spots, and minimal depth of field.
Nevertheless, none of my other lenses - including my conventional macro lens - can match it in terms of magnification.
Lenny worked some macro magic on my CNC tests... This is only the roughing stage, I messed up the finishing.
This is a little reverse 50mm macro action posted a bit early for Roni's birthday. This is one of the two dozen flowers from my Sparkling Burgundy Aloe plant. Enjoy and Happy Birthday Roni! :)
