Yesterday when I was wandering around my neighbour's garden, I spotted this unusual spider. I took a few photos, but couldn't seem to get it all in focus due to camera shake. I went home to get my monopod, but when I went back the spider was gone and hasn't been back since (maybe eaten by a bird?), so these shots will have to do. The pink and green background is the Azalea bush which was behind the web.

I will be away for a few days - still clearing out Peter's Dad's house (what a job). Will catch up on Wednesday when I get back.
My wrist is quite painful today so I wont be able to leave personal comments, but I will still be looking at your beautiful photos.

It is my birthday today, but as we are taking Peter's father back to his home for the last time we will not be having any celebrations. As you know he has been in hospital and rehab since before Christmas and it has been decided that he is not fit enough now to go back to his own home and is to go into a nursing home. He is almost 94, so he has been very lucky to have been able to stay in his own home for so long. A new chapter in his life - I hope he will be happy (I am sure he will once he gets used to it).

It is a wet, cold, miserable day in Sydney today so no chance to go out for photos. This is a lovely rose that I found in a neighbour's garden last week.

We are headed up to Peter's Dad's house this afternoon and won't be back until Tuesday, so this is my flower a day for Monday.

Some more photos from Wednesday - way too hot to go out in the garden today - up to 42C in some parts of Sydney

When I first saw this little bee I thought it was a Blue Banded bee, but on uploading the photo, it doesn't have blue/black stripes, so I am not sure what it is.

I am sure Nina will have better things on her mind to continue the challenge - she is off to Alaska tomorrow for a photographic tour - I would love to be going with her.
It is the first day of Autumn in Australia today and it is raining and much cooler. I know that the hot weather will be back, but I am enjoying the cool while it lasts.
This is a Geranium that I have growing in a pot in the back garden that has only just flowered again after some months.

After tomorrow I will be unable to go out each day and take a photos as I am booked in for surgery at 4.30 on Friday afternoon. The surgeon is going to shorten the Ulna bone by sawing through the bone, taking 3 mm off and then join the bone with a metal plate and screws. He is also going to fix the Carpal Tunnel at the same time. I am getting quite nervous, but hopefully it will stop the pain that I have been having to around 18 months or more. I will be around, but will be delving into my archives for photos for the challenge.

This is a Pineapple Lily that is growing in my neighbour's garden. The heat has burnt it off a little, but it is still beautiful.

We are going up to Gosford today to take Peter's Dad to the nursing home. We will be staying until Thursday evening so I am adding a photo for tomorrow as well. We probably won't have internet so I will catch you all when I get back.

I have been busy today, so I found these two photos in my archives. I will catch up with everyone tomorrow.
Another photo from my archives. I am not sure which colour I prefer - the first is using "auto colour" in the drop down menu in Photoshop and the second is SOOC.
My thumb/wrist seems to be getting worse - I am actually looking forward to the surgery next week in the hope that it will relieve the pain.
I found these photos while searching through some of my older photos - I had forgotten all about them. These are hand held and SOOC, only resized in Photoshop.
Babysitting went well, only two or three threats with the wooden spoon (LOL) before they all fell asleep at around 11 p.m. They slept in until 8 a.m. but when I got up my hand was so sore that I had to do everything with one hand - not that easy. I am hoping that the doctor is back on deck this week or I may have to find another doctor to see if I need cortisone injections. Ella Grace (and Mummy and Daddy) called in on her way home from the hospital as well.
These are from the archives and were taken with my Canon 400d camera and the 75-300 mm lens and Kenko extension tubes.
We have many little dragonflies in the garden at the moment, but most times it is just two different species - this colour and a grey/green colour. I love the colours of the background in these photos and as you can see, it came from the garden hose laying on the grass.
We arrived home safely this evening and although the landing was a little scary (first time ever in all of our trips) we touched down on the second attempt. There were gale force winds in Sydney today and the first landing was aborted due to something that had been blown onto the runway. The second was a bit bumpy but my hat goes off to the wonderful pilots who land planes in all conditions.
I love this variety of Grevillea that grows in my neighbour's garden. It is a dainty little flower and such a pretty colour.

This rose is in my neighbour's garden. The previous owner Ron brought it from his mother's garden when she died over 50 years ago and as you can see, it is still producing beautiful roses.

Today the temperature in Sydney reached 42 C - it was a scorcher. The only saving grace was that the humidity was minimal. Peter's father is still in hospital and has been unwell, so we went to visit him and have a chat to the doctor. It wasn't too bad in the heat as we have airconditioning in the car and were in airconditioning in the hospital.

It is another lovely sunny (but cool) day here in Sydney - way too windy for macro photos though LOL. I went around to my neighbour's garden and the bugs were out and about and I did get a couple of shots that I am happy with.
I am still not ready to pick up the camera yet though as my wrist felt a lot of pain as I was walking around. Next time I will remember to wear the splint to see if it gives support.
I think this is a type of bird of paradise plant - Desert Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia Gilliesii)
I think I may add this to my 52 weeks of photo challenge - this week's theme is Summer/Winter, depending on where you live.
I may not be on Flickr very much over the next few days as my brother is visiting for a week and he whinges a bit if I sit at the computer for long LOL. I will sneek a peek when I can though.
Amegilla cingulata, commonly known as the blue banded bee, is an Australian native bee. It belongs to the Anthophoridae family of insects. Currently, there are several scientific organisations conducting thorough research on how the blue banded bee benefits agriculture through its distinctive "buzz pollination". These bees are very important for the production of food and contribute to at least 30% of crops in Australia.
A. cingulata has a very striking appearance. Unlike the honey bee, it has pale blue stripes on its abdomen instead of yellow. The male can be distinguished by the number of complete bands, having five as opposed to the females' four. In size, A. cingulata can grow to 10–12 millimetres (0.39–0.47 in). Its appearance includes a golden brown head with bulging eyes that have multiple lenses. They have six sticky legs and a long tongue to help extract nectar from flowers. Scientists believe that male bees have brighter blue stripes to attract female bees.
Blue banded bees can sting but are not as aggressive as other bees. The males cling to plant stems during the night. Like the whole anthophoridae family, they are quick and agile. They are solitary creatures, whereas honey bees create hives.

I went down to Santa Barbara with a group of photo friends to the Butterflies Alive! exhibit at the Museum of Natural History. It was a macro lovers dream come true. This is my favorite photo as it had both the butterfly and water lilies which were in a very small pond. It's best to get there early (10:00) and walk in as the doors open.
