Delving through my archives again - this is another variety of Grevillea that grows in my neighbour's garden.

The weather is finally beginning to cool down here - supposed to get down to 9C tonight, but quite windy, so seems even colder. It will soon be time to put the heaters on.

It has been another cold day today, so it is into the archives again. These were taken a while back when the weather was warmer and there were more insects around. I haven't had much time for Flickr today as I thought I had better begin preparing my applique squares that I like to take with me when travelling. I love applique, but the preparation can be so fiddly and time consuming, although the finished product is well worth the effort.

I still can't pick up the camera, so I am still adding photos from my archives. These were taken during my visit the the Hunter Valley Gardens at Cessnock - a fabulous place to visit.

I was wandering around the garden the other day and as I came around the corner, I spotted this wasp on a bush. I tried to get in nearer for some closeups, but he was watching me intently and looked like he was about to attack, so I beat a hasty retreat. Bees don't bother me, but wasps sometimes sting without provocation - and a camera in it's face seems like provocation to me LOL. I have googled and have come up with Digger Wasp (Sphex cognatus), maybe someone can confirm this for me.

It is my middle child's 40th birthday today and we are going to a "bling" party at their new house.

Happy Birthday Danielle!!

Today was another day when it was warmer outside than inside the house, so I wandered around the garden. It is pretty boring these days due to the cold weather, but I did spy a tiny grasshopper on the African Daisies.

My hand is a bit sore today. I have found I have a couple of good days and then a couple of bad days to bring me down to earth LOL. I am still trying to take it easy, but it is so boring. Thanks to Brian @ Bury St Edmunds (UK) I now have an ID - "Peruvian Lily".

We are now into the second month of Autumn and I have noticed that the bees are beginning to slow down. Yesterday we had a lovely sunny day and when I walked around to my neighbour's garden I noticed this honey bee, a wasp and a small native bee flying around this tiny daisy bush, so I am assuming that they are stocking up for when the cold weather hits. Today has been the opposite - rather cool and showers all day.

Craft brewing tends to overcomplicate things – often with delicious results. But in a world of triple dry hopping and lactose laden kettle sours, sometimes it’s nice to have something simple and straight forward. Lions Gate Lager is exactly that: uncomplicated. Made from premium PNW malt and European hops, it is fermented cold, and aged even colder. This one is sure to satisfy macro lovers and craft fans alike.

In the same plant we can see blue and pink flowers . It's fantastic.

Granny Magnolia was overheard saying "Come early and stay late..there's plenty for everyone. Aunt Minnie and Uncle Zeb, the kids, cousins and brothers and aunties from both sides. They'll all here looking like gleaming white stars in the deep green of our home. I'll just set this out for the butterflies and a little dew for quenching their thirst, you hear kids? Leave this alone now"!

Push button to start a pump (Blue) and the lever is to be pushed to increase or decrease discharge rate of the pump system. Specially taken for the macro lovers. HMM !!!

This is a ground cover that grows wild in my garden. I love it but I do agree with Peter that it gets out of hand. He wants to pull it all out, but I won't let him LOL. We just try to keep it under control.

Take a look on the photostream of 1crzqbn she's an insparation to others... incluiding me.

Some more photos of the Hoverfly that I posted yesterday. These are not cropped and you can see my reflection in the body of the Hoverfly.

When I was wandering around my hubby's friends' garden, I spotted this cute little ladybird climbing over the pink flower. I think from memory the flower is called digitalis. These are hand held and SOOC, only resized in Photoshop.

As I was taking photos of the Marigold this afternoon this little insect crawled out - I think it may be a ladybird larvae. Not sure what it has in it's feelers (maybe an egg sac).

The sun finally came out today and although cool, it was a pleasant change from the rain of the last week. I ventured around to my neighbour's garden and spotted this lonely bee busily gathering nectar from the Bird of Paradise bush. These are not cropped and were taken with my Canon 50D and the Canon 180 mm 3.5 L series macro lens.

My wrist is still sore and whilst I can manage the pain I don't want it to get really bad while I am away. I will probably be in touch with the surgeon during the week to make an appointment to see him before we leave on our trip.

Bluebells full of water droplets after two days of rain

I usually wander around to my neighbour's garden every couple of days to see what flowers are out and what insects are around. Sometimes I see a few, sometimes not. I had almost given up this day, when the Common Crow butterfly came and landed just where I was standing.

I took this photo yesterday in my neighbour's garden and when I was in Photoshop, I hit auto tone and this is what happened. The second photo is the original sooc. As blue and yellow are my favourite colours, I really like the first photo.

This is the same Red Star Cluster bush that is in my neighbour's garden and it attracts all types of flying insects.

It is another icy day here in Sydney today and considering Winter is arriving next Wednesday, I suppose we should expect this. I never complain about Winter, as I hate our extreme Summers.

When I was wandering around my neighbour's garden on Sunday, I spotted this preying mantis in the foliage. He seemed very curious about my camera and was happy to stay for photos.

I am sorry to post and run, but my little granddaughter is in hospital having some tests and I am babysitting my daughter's three other little ones while she stays at the hospital. As you can imagine, it is very frightening for a 7 year old. I have had the older three for overnight stays but not the littlest one who is only two and she is being a bit of a handful at the moment. I will catch up with you all tomorrow. From memory, these were taken with the 75-300 lens and the Kenko tubes.
