These are some photos that I took during Summer of a tiny Native Bee on a miniature Daisy. After some lovely warm, sunny Winter days, we are now back to the cold, but not the rain that has been predicted.
Some more photos from the archives tonight.
We have just arrived home from visiting Peter's Dad in hospital. He is 92 and it seems that he has suffered a minor stroke, but he is full of beans as usual, which is a relief.
We are still not having any luck with our main computer (where all my photos are) and I found this photo on Picasa. Gerbera are one of my favourite flowers and I love this colour.
I met up with one of my Flickr contacts today at Katoomba where they are staying for a couple of days. Thank you Jennie and Nigel, we had a lovely time. The only problem is that I didn't have my 50D with me as it has gone to Canon with all my batteries and charger to see if they can work out why the batteries keep going flat.
You can see Jennie's photos here:

This is a single petal Gerbera that grows in my neighbour's garden.
As you know, my 50D died the day before we left South Africa, so I decided to upgrade with a second hand 7D. It is a new learning curve, especially as the manual was all in Japanese LOL, but I have worked out a few things. I have ordered a new book and waiting for it to arrive. I will get a quote for repairs to my 50D, but as I have seen them go on Ebay for around $380, I am not sure I am willing to pay too much for repairs.
People have been asking me how my hands survived the trip - the splint was a real help with the pain. In fact the pain seems worse now that I am home and back to doing the mundane chores that I was free of during the trip. I am booked in to see the surgeon again on the 11th September.
I have not had many flowers this year. Seems the weather has beaten things up a bit. Including me.
Happy Saturday

We are home from the Central Coast. Peter's Dad is now in his room at the nursing home and beginning to settle in (under sufference at this stage). It is a big move for him, but as my sister in law says, it is the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
The Marigolds are growing madly in my wheelbarrow garden at the moment and when I went out this afternoon I spotted this little grasshopper on one of the flowers. I took a few photos and then I went in to put the camera on the monopod as my hands were shaking (something that has been happening since the operation), but when I went back outside it was gone. Thankfully, this photo turned out okay - hand held, sooc.
This is the same Damselfly that was doing it's gymnastics yesterday, but taken from a different angle. The background is the plant in the photo below. I love how I captured it opening and closing it's mouth.
I went to the GP today about my wrist and he said that there is nothing to be done at this stage, except use anti-inflammatories and try using the splint again. He also said that it is not uncommon for De Quervain's Tenosynovitis to recur - that will be nice after being out of pocket $2,000 for the operation (apart from the pain).
I don't usually venture out into my garden late in the afternoon due to the amount of mosquitoes that are there, but I was taking the washing off the line when I spotted this little ladybird on a cactus in the garden. It was worth being attacked by mosquitoes to get these photos. I love the afternoon light and they are SOOC only resized in Photoshop.
Yesterday afternoon I went for a wander around to my neighbour's garden during a break in the weather and the insects were very busy. I spotted this red/orange grasshopper resting on the orange gerbera (I almost missed it LOL) and the little baby preying mantis as well.
Thank you manham for your information. I googled and found that it is a Pink Katydid:
One from a few weeks back in my neighbour's garden.
Well, tomorrow is my operation to release the tendon in my wrist. I go into hospital at 2.30 p.m. and will be released later in the evening. Hopefully after the initial recovery period, it will be the end to my pain and the start of being able to live my life the way I want. There is a limit to how much TV you can watch LOL.

A little butterfly I spotted when wandering around my neighbour's garden the other week.
I am finding the pain more manageable today whilst wearing the thumb/wrist guard that I bought. I wore it during the night as well, which did make a difference with the pain this morning.

Normally I have to follow dragonflies around forever to try and get a decent shot, but this one actually landed next to me on a branch when I was taking photos of the red cricket (see yesterday's upload). It stayed there for a few shots before flying off again. These are SOOC, only resized in Photoshop.

A bit soft, but I love it anyway.

Due to my poor sore wrist I can't pick up the camera at the moment, so I found these in my archives. We are in Summer and the insects are out and about, but I am not LOL. I am having major withdrawal symptoms.
This is a remake of a shot that I posted a few days back. UsuallyBlue mentioned that it would look great with a bit of colour pop. I am not very good with Photoshop, but I thought I would give it a try and I think that I do like the new version. The original shot is below with my first attempt at popping the colours. I really must try and be a little more creative with my photography and processing. I boosted the reds and the yellows which gave this result - what do you think??
This is a photo from a couple of weeks ago that I took in my neighbour's garden (where else LOL). The glow behind the dragonfly is a dandelion flower - love this!!
I am still having trouble with my wrist which makes typing painful and now the doctor thinks it may be Tendonitis (too much time on the computer - perhaps), so whilst I will still be looking at all your photos, I may not be able to do many comments sadly. I am also having a lot of trouble lifting my camera which is a tragedy for me. I will be in to visit though with my creation.

A beautiful pansy that I spied during a visit to Franschhoek in South Africa
I spotted this bug on my Hydrangea bush yesterday and I am not sure if it is a Hover Fly or just another type of fly. Maybe someone here will help me out with an ID. Thank you Rebeak for your ID - I agree that it is a Grey-Striped Fly ( Sarcophaga aurifrons ) .
A Sweat Bee (Family Halictidae), getting that one last meal out of a dying spring flower. I guess they don't leave anything to waste!
I love lichens! They are so amazing - a macro-lovers dream subject! This one reminds me of an old-fashioned fan - hence the title!
When we stayed in Moore, Queensland with Peter's friend the were so many of these strange bugs flying around and climbing all over the plants.
We have had a couple of cool but sunny days (although the temperature today reached 17 C), and I wandered around to my neighbour's garden. I had a lovely chat with the old fellow and he was saying that he was thinking about whether to sell and move to something smaller. I don't what I will do if he does - where will I go for my photos LOL. These are not cropped, hand held and taken with my Canon 50D and the Canon 180 mm 3.5 L series macro lens.
Wow made Explore, thanks everyone!!
Damselfly
Such wonderful colours, I was so pleased as it was in my garden by the pond.

I am not sure what I will do when I am out of action after the surgery - I will just have to add some from the archives until I can pick up the camera again.
Well, I am home from hospital. There were a few emergencies so I wasn't operated on until nearly 8 p.m. and with painkillers I had a good rest, only waking when the nurses came to check on me. The surgeon came to see me this morning and said that the operation went well. I am feeling a little weary, so I will catch up with you all later.
I found this shot when I was going through the archives. I love it when this flower comes out in the garden as the bees do love it and stay around for photos.
One week until my appointment to see the surgeon again - I hope he can offer a solution as I am tired of being in constant pain (and I am going into withdrawals as I can't pick up the camera LOL).
